wow.so fast maaa.what package are you in? VIP20?

VIP 10
QUOTE(IwanAGP @ Dec 31 2011, 12:51 PM)
This should be a typical VIP10/BIZ10 speed. 10Mbps is about 1.25MBps while you're downloading at 1MBps. If and only if you're on VIP10. Besides that, there may be unhealthy seed, causing you unable to hit full speed.
*

I am actually using an international VPN. The reason I am testing downloading Ubuntu is because it has a lot of seeders. While I do not expect a really high speed, I was actually thinking of seeing something around 2MB/s
Oh well

Just reboot it. Or you can choose to switch to TP-Link or asus. I'm now using TP-link TL-WR841ND. So far so good. It can sustain 15 days no downtime(no disconnection at all) and someone else showed 29days no downtime. It's just RM80 if you can make it to lowyat to buy it. Other places should be around RM85~100.
When I'm using that DIR615, I'm really fed up. Reboot at least once a day because me and my housemate are having quite heavy usage. It just can't handle well. Sometimes the signal just gone crazy, totally disappear from my housemates' laptop. Few of them can't detect them at all while others still manage to online. Weird enough? Yeah... xD
My suggestion, get a replacement router.
1. Check your email you used to register UniFi. I received an email for that.

2. You can choose...
i) Homeplug @ downstair -> Homeplug @ upstair ->Switch ->Two desktops
But you need to know whether your wiring from downstair to upstair is in phase

ii) Another router to do wireless bridge upstair. Then you can connect both desktops through LAN to that router

iii) Two wireless adaptors. Mind you, don't buy from TM. Theirs is quite crappy. Another thing I worried about is that the wireless router given by TM might not have signal strong enough to reach your 1st floor. "Might not", not 100% cannot.

Anyway, it's not mandatory to have desktops and TV in the same floor but you need to do the wiring/other alternatives in order to connect them.
The setup is basically

FTB -> BTU ->phone (DECT)
..................-> DIR615 -> STB

You also need to know from where the fibre will be pulled into your house in order to plan the setup.
Btw, welcome to UniFi family  nod.gif
*
1. Already called Customer Support to resend the confirmation slip

2. thanks i will consider about it. The wiring will be at downstairs since the tm greeen box is at the back alley and the small telephone box is at downstairs. Also:

i) may consider about it......

ii) u mean router compatible with UniFi?? Any brands recommended and how??

iii) i will take it as a backup plan since i only use wifi with my phone (HTC Sensation)

anyway thanks

Dear all,

I just installed my unifi today, kinda happy with the local speed except I was a bit shakehead when the TM installer told me it's ok to stack the alcatel fibre modem with the Dlink router since I have some space constraint. At first it was ok, until a few hours later (more than 8 hours I think) it got quite hot. Luckily I realised this and unstacked it and put it side by side.

So guys, is there any problem for the unifi modem to generate such heat ?
*
For those using VDSL (copper), if you are using the Huawei (black modem), that device heats up quite fast that I had to put it on top of notebook cooler fan! But last month TM guys changed mine to the ZTE which is standing type & has many ventilation holes, and no overheating problem with that.

Not sure about those using the Alcatel fiber BTU. If it does overheat fast enough, you might just have to make more space for it and consider place it on top of notebook cooler fan.

my DIR-615 is stacked on top of my modem and it DOES generate lots of heat. i got pretty worried, so i bought a RM5 USB fan and plugged it into my DIR-615's USB port and direct the fan at the modem and router.

so far, everything's been pretty good biggrin.gif

You're using International VPN but your VIP10 is 10Mbps which is around 1.25MBps. Whatever you do, no matter you use International VPN or what, your package it capped to 1.25MBps. It will never hit 2MBps. You want it to hit 2MBps? Get VIP20... That's 2.5MBps max.

Mine have been up and running for a year, only turn off when everyone is back for holiday else 24hours up time. No overheat issue at all. Both modem and router placed ON Tiled floor, cool enough laugh.gif Serious!
