You must be kidding me, even 2GB for my Win XP Pro, it's just nice, how could it be running smoothly with 1GB when the recommended specs is 2GB for Vista? Vista alone uses around 500 mb to 700 mb of ram space. Maybe if yours a stripped down version of Vista then I dunno lah.  tongue.gif

Bah, for one, I never install anything that eats too much RAM in the background
and secondly, why are you so confident when you have never used this OS?

note also the RAM + Proc eating Football Manager is running
yes, more ram means much more performance gain, but that is not the only thing that can make a PC faster. obselete and crappy softwares are also a problem too.

Well, you should probably try running FEAR, NFS Carbon, LOTR BOME 2, etc. You'll know that 1GB is not enough for Vista. You should probably know that Vista is more resource hungry than Win XP Pro, a fact that nobody can deny, not even Microsoft folks themselves. Hey, it's your pc, if you think it's running fine, then it's up to you. tongue.gif

I'm playing oblivion, Carbon, GTR2 and rFactor (both are more resource hungry than carbon), and it feels fine.

well i think i just qualify to join the topic recently....... as i have upgrade to 2gb from 1gb.........

well in terms of normal window operation all are still well, not much difference but gaming do make the difference....... especially u get a low lantency rams too........ windows will take about 400mb of rams to run and 600mb is not quite sufficent for some games, so addition even for 256 to 1gb i think would just do a lot of difference for game like BF2, BFME2; these games are need a lot of rams to store the gaming data i guess......

anyway i douby Vista would run properly on 2gb of rams........it seems my beta version is quite resource hungry when i try to stretch it out a bit

I just buy a F.E.A.R Extraction Point and its slower than F.E.A.R. It eats tons of RAM (my HDD always busy) even at 800x600 medium detail! It doesn't occur on first game at same setting

Yeah, better get those DDR1 ram quickly, luckily I bought it right before the price increased by 20%. I'm not planning to go 4GB yet until my next rig since I'm not using Vista yet, my friend is armed with 4GB and he's using test drove it with Vista Beta version, so far so good, it's much more responsive but 4GB is an overkill since it will cost a bomb. sweat.gif Maybe in the future, 4GB to 20GB of ram will be something common seeing that more and more applications and games are resource hungry.

True about FEAR Etraction Point, even with 2GBs thrown it, it's running just nice, a bit sluggish sometimes, I don't think it's due to my graphic card because I'm using 7950GT right now and have overclocked it near to 7900GTX speed.

RAID? Cool ....... I never tried using RAID before even though my mobo supports it. Must wait for the hardisk prices to fall first. sweat.gif

hmm...few reasons why i wanna use raid....first is because of its speed and access time...besides that, when vista is launched, you'll be searching for programs instead of looking for it 1 by 1...so hard disk access time is crucial...sigh...but still on s754 platform

well. do you OC your computer?? if you do, i suggest you get 2x1gb....cause 4.512mb is really hard to overclock..and cant get the thing to run at 1T...

If u use 4 sticks of 512mb, it's gonna run at 2T n it's a huuuuuuuuuuge difference from 1T. U better get 2 sticks of 1gb. The old 512x2 go to garage sale n sell off.

You can take another two piece of 512, it works fine for your rig unless you wanna upgrade to 4GB in the future, then you might wanna sell away your 512 and get a pair of 1GB ram. It's your call. smile.gif

1T and 2T refers to memory timings.. tongue.gif if you overclock your computer, you'll understand it.. smile.gif
