I'll make it 4GB to be on the safe side since Vista is resource hungry, our games won't run fine if the OS itself hogs all the resources available. cry.gif

to run vista smoothly, i would say 2GB, if want extra juice, i would say 3GB.

You must be kidding me, even 2GB for my Win XP Pro, it's just nice, how could it be running smoothly with 1GB when the recommended specs is 2GB for Vista? Vista alone uses around 500 mb to 700 mb of ram space. Maybe if yours a stripped down version of Vista then I dunno lah. tongue.gif

O'RLY? I've been using 1GB on my Vista and my games run fine without lags. Sometimes, theory is not enough, you just need to use it to know

Well, you should probably try running FEAR, NFS Carbon, LOTR BOME 2, etc. You'll know that 1GB is not enough for Vista. You should probably know that Vista is more resource hungry than Win XP Pro, a fact that nobody can deny, not even Microsoft folks themselves. Hey, it's your pc, if you think it's running fine, then it's up to you. tongue.gif

Yeah, better get those DDR1 ram quickly, luckily I bought it right before the price increased by 20%. I'm not planning to go 4GB yet until my next rig since I'm not using Vista yet, my friend is armed with 4GB and he's using test drove it with Vista Beta version, so far so good, it's much more responsive but 4GB is an overkill since it will cost a bomb. sweat.gif Maybe in the future, 4GB to 20GB of ram will be something common seeing that more and more applications and games are resource hungry.

True about FEAR Etraction Point, even with 2GBs thrown it, it's running just nice, a bit sluggish sometimes, I don't think it's due to my graphic card because I'm using 7950GT right now and have overclocked it near to 7900GTX speed.

RAID? Cool ....... I never tried using RAID before even though my mobo supports it. Must wait for the hardisk prices to fall first. sweat.gif

You can take another two piece of 512, it works fine for your rig unless you wanna upgrade to 4GB in the future, then you might wanna sell away your 512 and get a pair of 1GB ram. It's your call. smile.gif

Hopefully ram prices will be cheaper in the future, I wouldn't mind getting 4GB if the total price is less than RM1K in the future but it wouldn't be possible, by then, DDR3 will be out and again, the high prices. sweat.gif

1 GB is ngam ngam to be comfortable with current apps and most games under XP. For Vista, definitely need 2 GB or more

That's good, at least you can feel the difference unlike some people, keep on telling me that there's no different or any benefits to use 2GB of ram. To me, the more ram, the better the system performance will be. rclxms.gif

QUOTE(Amal @ Dec 11 2006, 02:20 PM)
juz upgraded to 2gb last week..
it shows quite a lot of differences from 1gb..
now, i can play all of the games that required lots of ram with ease..
last time i used 1gb and play battlefield2142, it takes quite a time to quit from the game, but when use 2gb, it quits so fast.. biggrin.gif
i can also play gothic 3 with full settings!

i really2 recommended all of u to upgrade to 2gb..

Well, sometimes I'll vomit blood talking to such people because they're not observant enough and they can't differentiate the performance gains with 1GB or 2GB of ram, they think it's the same. Of course, even for light usage like internet surfing, I could open at least a few applications running in the background and copying large documents will be a piece of cake. Anyway, I'm sure, in the future, computers will probably have 10GB of ram or more provided if the price is cheap, like you have mentioned, more ram is better but seeing that Win XP 32-bit doesn't support more than 3GB of ram, it's pointless to use 4GB at the moment.

QUOTE(goldfries @ Dec 11 2006, 11:54 PM)
more RAM is always better. whoever told you no benefit needs a knock on the head, unless of course they meant really light usage. smile.gif
