Official statement from Asus Malaysia Facebook page:
QUOTE
The ASUS Transformer Prime is made from a metallic unibody design, so the material may affect the performance of the GPS when receiving signals from satellites. Please note that this product is not a professional GPS device, and signal performance can be easily influenced by factors including, but not limited to: weather, buildings, and surrounding environments. Please understand there are limitations when using the GPS function. To avoid inconveniencing users who demand a powerful GPS device, we made the decision to remove it from our specification sheet and marketing communications. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.
- TL;DR version: -- Tablet made from metallic unibody design -- affected GPS performance when receiving signals -- Not a professional GPS device -- Asus decide to remove from specification sheet and marketing communications. -- *note* only remove from specification sheet and marketing communications, the GPS chip/hardware still in the tablet itself.
Just record a short clips on the GPS testing

Silence update Jan 19th 2012 (Malaysia received the update on 20th Jan)
QUOTE
If you're not quite ready to take up ASUS on its refund offer (or if you simply don't live in the UK), you're probably holding out for additional updates to dry your tears. Fortunately, Asus hasn't forgotten about you and your ilk. Early this morning, the Transformer Prime quietly received an OTA update that not only unroots the tablet, but also kicks the slab's GPS version up to 6.9.13. (current version is 6.8.13) The folks on the XDA developers forums have restored their roots easily enough, and seem to be reaping the benefits of updated GPS drivers, as well. Engadget's own tests lean on the positive side -- lounging indoors, in a spot where GPS reception was previously all-dark, we snagged sight of 12 satellites on a freshly rebooted Prime with WiFi disabled. Although the response seems generally positive on the XDA developers forums, not everybody is seeing our success. Either way, this update certainly didn't make things worse; a step in the right direction to be sure.

QUOTE
ASUS changed the way the TF201+dock handles charging.
The setup will use the tablet battery until it gets down to 70%. Then the dock will charge the tablet battery back to 90%. This will repeat until the dock battery gets to about 5% and then it will use the tablet battery until it is drained.
This is to help the constant cycling of the dock battery only that happens on the TF101 and help both batteries last for more charges (allegedly)

Ice Cream Sandwich for the Transformer Prime was one of the most anticipated updates for one of the most anticipated tablets of recent memory. It was pushed out last week and so everyone's happy -- right? Sadly, some folks are missing out. We've received a number of reports from users who haven't been as successful as we were in updating to Android 4.0, their slates showing an "Unknown" serial number preventing the application of the update. ASUS is looking into the issue and affected users were told to perform a factory reset and, if that doesn't work, try it again and let the slate sit at the desktop for about 15 minutes. Let us know how you're faring in comments, and hit up the xda developers links for more support should you need it.

Most of the Gray version Malaysia TP owner receive a dock with UK keyboard layout The @ and # are at different place unlike US keyboard layout, the enter key is different with gold version as well. Function still the same.. SHIFT+2 will still get u a "@" symbol .. not too worries about that.

Haven't tested it outside, but the review from other websites should be enough.
From my early experience: 1. Hear a click to assemble the adapter, making sure the bottom of the power plug aligns with the USB charger. 2. Use a paper clip to take the rubber stopper from the tab, push it all the way inside the hole outwards and pull. 3. Cup your right hand to gain full exp of the speaker. 4. Manage to get 2-3 out of 4 bars wifi in my room upstairs. Router is at the stairs as many houses in Malaysia. We don't have any basements like in the US who are having problems. Browsing is no problem, but not so smooth when streaming content compared to my notebook.
At the end of the day, it's all about the overall user experience. I'm not into youtubing, so streaming is not of my concern. I download music and videos directly from the internet using my notebook. Then if I want to view it in the tab, I'll transfer it first to the micro SD card. That's why external storage is an important feature.
Hope you all are still hyped on the TP!
QUOTE(hseyrann00 @ Jan 15 2012, 02:40 PM)
For me, web browsing , reading e-book and doing words/spreadsheet/slideshow on-the-go is essential. Addon : I appreciate the ability to save a whole bloody webpage to read it offline using the default browser is something that i can't do perfectly in my laptop (it always out of alignment). As i dont always have a "good" internet connection, so this is essential for me. For entertainment purpose, video playing and light/medium gaming did not fail me at all. (e.g tower defense / strategic game ) Video i played directly from external hdd is silky smooth too.. scrolling the timebar with no lag..
The best thing is the portability of this device! It almost replace my laptop already. 1st thing 1st, u have to know that what is android and the limitation of it's app. since Nothing is perfect, for the current affordable technology, this is 1 splendid piece of technology that brings me to a different level standard of living.
Disclaimer : As i don't own any tablet before, and only playing with my roommate's ipad, so my opinion doesn't really apply to those who have owned any tablet in the past. This prime might only indicate a slight upgrade for u guys.
QUOTE(DikkieD @ Jan 16 2012, 12:42 PM)
After having the Prime for almost a week now I thought I'd mention my views on the device:
- I love the design, but find it too bulky at some points. I am not sure if the 7" that is due would be better for me. I mainly use it for video, and will almost always hold it in my hands or on my lap. 10,1" is sometimes a bit to big (near). - I am still not sure whether I have a device with a less than great wifi. I tested it in my condo, and usually get some score between 60 and 70 db. - GPS works, but I still need to test whether it works fine. If I launch maps, my location is pinpointed within a few seconds. I will never use the device as GPS alternative, so I guess it's fine with me. - Video playback is awesome, though I am waiting for an upgrade on the players. BS player for example shows the lower bar which is quite annoying. - 720p material plays beautiful. Couldn't have asked for a better player. Very nice detail overall. Downside is that when I watch in lowest brightness (with auto-adjust off), the screens starts flickering at some point, usually between 5% and 15% brightness. When in dark (in bed at night) I can't have too much brightness, but also cannot stand the flickering. - I was worried that volume of the device might be too low. I used the device last week on the bus from Singapore to KL, and I was almost unable to hear the sound over my headphones due to the traffic/outside/engine noise. Luckily others pointed me towards the Volume+ and the Equalizer aps, which have boosted the sound enormous. Glad with that as I will also use it in the airplane quite often, and there is no point if the volume is too low. - I have a tiny spot of light bleed in the lower left corner. I am not too bothered by that. - I hate the fact that it tries to sync all photos and video's to my google+ account. It even syncs my videos which shouldn't be there....perhaps I still need to get the ropes more of the OS
My serial btw is in the BCOKAS03xxxx range. I thought I read that this range has WIFI troubles, while Asus Singapore clearly stated that they would only bring in fixed devices. I am not sure though, and so far wifi seems to work ok except for the occasional drop (as in; the wifi dies completely, and then recovers again).
Overall pretty happy. Hope due time those minor issues will be fixed. I do not like the way Asus has treated their customers in this case. All the issues and now the 1920 version...in Europe they did announce a 3G version that is underway.
QUOTE(hanhan @ Jan 22 2012, 12:20 PM)
Here is my review on the Prime after having it for 2 days. 1. Performance after i unwrap and charge, i straight upgrade it to ICS. experience on the ICS is good. Everything feel so smooth. No problem in playing any current games.
2. Wifi At first i though i have a wifi issue but after do all the checking, i found out is my home unifi router problem. after call them and they do the upgrade o n the router, now my wifi dont have any issue at all
3. GPS try to us the gpstest software to do the testing while on the road. able to get few staellite in around 1 min. i think signal not so strong cos is in yellow bar or red bar. i do face one time that the gps drop in a sec and come back again in another sec
4. Others. - After upgrade ICS, some of the ICS feature is not in such as face recognition. - i try to run flash games in google+, it can be load but slow and sometime hang. anyone have this problem So far i'm happy on my Prime

My short comment n test on matte screen protector bought from lhongwuh n USB 3.0 ext. cable 1.5M bought from pcminc
Matte screen protector: Gone 're the grippy feeling, n the smoothness when doing finger swiping has improved, good performance on the anti-glare. Have 2 holes/cut out for light sensor n front camera. However, just like other matte screen protector, the screen clarity reduced a bit and anti-fingerprint not that great. Oh yeah ... no problem with the keyboard dock. [attachmentid=2661687][attachmentid=2661689]
USB 3.0 Ext. cable : Tested charging with only original charger, charger with 1x USB 3.0 cable (1.5M), as well as 2x USB 3.0 cable (total 3M), seems like the charging rate is not reduce even on 3M USB 3.0 cable. Average I get 4% increment for every 5mins with or without USB ext. cable. However, I haven't have time to test full charge yet. [attachmentid=2661691]
QUOTE(r47z @ Jan 31 2012, 04:28 PM)
item B have to wait :S and you only can use it when you don't use the dock. Both have different usage IMHO
it's a snug fit. quite snug actually. all ports and everything else is accessible. cause of how slim the tablet is, it feels like i'm carrying an organizer. material wise is nice. you need to readjust the position so that the camera is not covered my first time putting it requires some repositioning so that the camera is not blocked. The only issue i noticed is that the flip will block the camera so you need to hold the flip to take a picture. This is when using it without the keyboard dock. With the keyboard dock everything works fine altho it's quite difficult to slot the tablet into the dock cause the case slightly on the thicker side. Since TF201 is so new, it's difficult to find any sleeve/case and this is the only one available at the moment. Worth the RM100 tho.
more picture of the case type b refer to post 1331 and 1332
CONTROLLERS
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
1) USB controllers
They could be any of the following: - Generic USB controllers (Tested) - PS3 controller with USB cable - need an apps (sixaxisapp) - No apps , no root needed (only can be done after update WW .14 and above) - WIRED XBox 360 (Not tested but it will identify itself as a USB controller too)
Tested my brother's Logitech USB controller. Played Riptide GP and Shadowgun with it, buttons can be mapped inside the game.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Played GTA 3 on version 1.2. No go... No button mapping either. But I think the 1.3 version will be plug and play. Just have to figure out what button do what. My brother already took the controller with him.
2) Bluetooth controllers
They could be any of the following: - Gamestop (US) BT controller (Not tested) - PS3 controller (tested) - Check post below after this (only can be done after update WW .14 and above)
Nvidia claimed that these controllers do work for ICS. The Gamestop BT controller does work and is bundled with the Prime in the US. Several others did manage to play it with the PS3 controller. But its not as easy as plug and play. You need to be rooted first, and use the Sixaxis app. Or to avoid root, use the USB/BT Joystick Center app but you need an extra BT dongle for it to work.
3) Wireless controllers
- XBox 360 controller
As I only have this unused controller, I'd spent the most of my time studying on it. No if you plug in the Play and Charge kit it will not work. It will not identify itself as a USB controller, but it will charge the battery pack. Turns out you have to have a PC XBox360 wireless gaming receiver along with it. http://www.mudah.my/PC+Wireless+Gaming+Rec...360-8919162.htm
Once you plugged it in the USB slot, press the guide button to let it sync together. It will blink continuously, don't worry. Its normal. Played Riptide GP and Cordy on it, works great! No mod need to done. Played Shadowgun and GTA 3. No go... The character just starts spinning around in circles. What you need is the USB/BT Joystick Center app, and the light will stay on the first quadrant. Activate the app first, press back and select your games.
Next was GTA 3 version 1.3. This time follow my button mapping in page 2 for the app: http://poke64738.freeforums.org/gta-3-t6.html Even the app developer thanked me for this! Don't forget to export (save) it. Next time import (load) it again. GTA 3 is now playable using the wireless XBox 360 controller.

wow. i just watch the video at the allThingsD.. the prime is just gorgeous. it's super thin n i think the dock also i think it's thinner... WOW!! This is really very cool...
If Asus is clever they would now publish a huge banner on their website promising everybody that they will definitely have their Prime ICS before Christmas . Everybody is scoping the market for a nice gift; and it would be a shame if Asus misses the boat only because they decided to launch with ICS....
We just got word that the tablet will go on sale worldwide in December, starting at $499 with a beefy 32GB of storage, moving up to $599 for a 64GB model. (That signature keyboard dock you see up there will cost $149.) In addition to those basic specs Mr. Shih revealed last month, we now know this has a 1280 x 800, Super IPS+ Gorilla Glass display with a 178-degree viewing angle and a max brightness of 600 nits. It also packs 1GB of RAM, GPS, a gyroscope, SonicMaster audio and a 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera. Rounding out the list is an 8MP shooter with an auto-focusing f/2.4 lens and a back-illuminated CMOS sensor that captures 1080p video. Touch-to-focus is also an option here, and ASUS claims a 30 percent boost in color enhancement over competing tabs.
As for battery life, we initially heard reports of 14.5-hour runtime, but ASUS is now saying the tablet alone can squeeze out 12 hours thanks to a 22Wh battery, and that the dock will add an additional six hours of juice.
price for the 32GB version is quoted at USD499, dock is additional USD149, total converted to about RM2,038 at today's rate.
EDIT: compared to the Samsung Galaxy Note which will be launched for RM2,299 this Friday, really need to think thrice to upgrade my Desire HD to Note. Prime should be more worth it.

Tablets are definitely a lot more worthwhile for the touch experience lah. Super smooth touchscreen on a tiny 4.3"? So jialat. Ya should maximize ya enjoyment on a large 10" tablet. Somemore coming with ICS and the latest Tegra 3 Quaddie so it should be silky smooth
nope. it is 4+1 cores. The fifth core, known as a companion core. It's a low-power core that runs many of the basic functions and apps while leaving the quad-core processor dormant.

thinking of changing to Galaxy Note if DiGi launch it with a good bundle this Friday. for DSLR, still funding for Canon 17-55 f/2.8, need to sell my 18-200mm kit lens first. Then next month "need" to get the ultimate Android tablet.
ASUS is about to release an Android tablet that looks pretty amazing, at least on paper. Looking at the specs and the pricing, it would be foolish to get a $499 10.1 tablet before this comes out, so there’s a chance that ASUS has just pulled the rug from under just about every tablet makers.
there is a saying "makan nasi, tak tahu harga beras .."
pricing for this tegra 3 is not expensive ... for expensive .. go look at samsung galaxy pad, note and s2 or the ipad2 + its docking keyboard + accessories ...

the hidden L lens.
i'm funding for a77 though. eXPENSIVEEEEE + this PRIME attracts me so muuuuuuuuuuuuucccccccccchhhhhhhhhhhhh
the price is almost the same as other tegra 2 tablet that available now
apps optimized for tegra 3? tegra 3 not even in the sales market yet u asking for the apps? lol

niasing, which means i was rite about tegra3 la....
he corrected me with tegra2....FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU
he is correct, you just cannot comprehend his words. He is saying the Asus Transformer Prime which WILL be launched with Tegra 3 is almost the same price as the current Tegra 2 tablet in the market like the current Transformer.
there is no apps for Tegra 3 yet as Tegra 3 tablet is not selling in the market YET until December this year.
quite sure by the time the tablet is launched, there will be some games developed jointly with nvidia/tegra that would be available in the market. after all, chip makers also want to show off their chip's capability.
first transformer already got 3G, just malaysia don't have. At taiwan already selling.
last month only selling 3g , really late
btw ,if you'd know , taiwan all wifi free and same with US part all almost all bars have free wifi . They dont need much 3g basically . Not like malaysia
Wonder hows the GPU performance, since Tegra 2 barely managed to outperform Sammy's Hummingbird a little bit only. If the GPU performance could not compete with A5 or the Exynos then Nvidia is dropping the ball right now.

what crap/.........
taiwan dont have alot of free wifi. only some shopping complex has, and the wifi signal is always so weak...
iinm, yes no 3g.. best option is by tethering it wit my phone.
best option is to get the mother of all android phone - the Samsung Galaxy Note and pair it (tethering) to the father of all Android tablet - the Asus Transformer Prime. Then you will have the most powerful android devices.
3G i believe will come a little later than the Wifi version. If you cant wait just simply the grab the wifi one. Kinda disappointed too. But let's hope for some miracles to happen.

or just buy a cheap cheap phone that can do wifi hotspot, simple solution
urghh... samsung delay things, 7.7 is down into toilet bowl and flush!... disappointed...
Agree, i dont like tab with no additional memory slot... sucks big time.. ipad kiddos
I wanna get this one instead! =) faster faster release in malaysia =)
samsung is making too many different versions of the same product, i mean just look at the choices for their tablets - 10.1, 8.9, 7.7, 7.0. They are a huge company, but even a huge company can't really handle that many kinds of product, which means, some day they'll screw up
comparing to Samsung, Asus concentrates (on the tablet market) on one product (at the moment), their Transformers line, even the slider is considered as the Transformers line because they are identical / similar. And this is a winning formula. Quality wins every time compared to quantity. Apple is doing this for years, and it builds their fan base, and new customers don't have headaches choosing their products, not like what Samsung is giving to their tablet's (potential) customers - super migraine (which shall I choose? What are the differences? Which is best?), apple customers only has one question - how much is the ipad2 16gb???

cause tablet market still very new, so they created full range, whatever u need, they have it all, if they fail on certain line, then good luck for those who purchase it
to buy a bulky n heavy tab just becos it has sdcard slot?... i'd pass... design is more important, even if it doesn't have an external slot for Sdcard, which i wont be utilising anyway...so gtab10.1 was my best option...
but that was before i saw prime....
so for now, prime seems to provide the best of both world.. i'm glad it took me sumtime to decide whether or not to get the gtab10.1...
for a thing that is THAT thin, u can't really put anything on it, at least they bother to put the ports into the keyboard
i think they don't want to put usb port there is because they want to sell keyboard shouldn't be that difficult, they already put somany stuff there ... i don't caring otg cable or anything on daily basic, but keyboard ? no no
wow im so gonna buy this. love their design and hopefully i can customize it like how i did with my s2
S2 + this prime = winrar !!!!
btw, hope android will come out with better office application like the real microsoft office. will fork out money to buy the software if it works great with this device
If they can put a micro-HDMI port on it why don't they include the micro-USB? if you have seen Motorola Droid 2 & 3, you will know it is easy to implement both port together without taking a lot of space.

Really? Argh.. Why no 3g. Will they come in 3g version eventually?
i feel 3g not really necessary as can always use your android phone as wireless hotspot. this is what i did with my galaxy tab and even ipad2 ( though it is 3g model) no point paying for another line

I assume you were using it with your previous sgs2. Will it get hot easily and does it consume a lot of juice. Don't have a laptop atm so i never tried using my phone as wireless hotspot

about 40+ degree c and battery life about 5-10% higher depending on 3g signal strength
there is free wifi available anywhere in msia and u can always use ur 3g phone mobiel hotspot

No point bringing another phone.Guess you seldom online with your tablet because those who always online will feel the hassle have to set hotspot from the phone , then connect and your phone must be in a certain range else will lose connection and etc.
What if your phone is not with you ? how are you going to online ? Isn't it great having both ? Will you buy an android phone without 3g ? same goes with asus transformer which you can't even make a phone call + plus with no 3g. Worst part is , no usb , have to get a docking to have usb but usb 3g doesn't support and need to root an install custom script .
That's not so bad. Will put into considerations. Thanks for the info
I did that too, when my house tmnet down but really have to install 3g watch dog, pc consume alot more bandwidth then phone Btw asus otg is in the market, so no usb is not main issue:) For me car charger, backup battery is standard acc for my phone, so thethering consume more battery is not major issue for me, i don't really care abt 3g but i can't leave my phone behind me.
Added on November 15, 2011, 3:16 amThethering is just click away and can save me another lineor rm 15 permonth, unless the 3g version is very cheap that i don't mind paying for it, gadget become my monthly burden d

totally agree with this, i never leave my phone, where i go, it goes. 1 missed call equals thousands of $ lost of potential revenue. this also means wherever i go, car charger goes also. plus opening wifi hotspot and connecting to it (after first time) only cost me about 10 seconds, so it's no big deal, been doing this on my laptop since the beginning of froyo. and with the keyboard dock's USB port, i can (presumably) charge the phone using that. it's a win-win solution, no need to pay for extra 3g bills every month.

I think most if not all, would not forget his/her phone whenever they go out. You are more likely not feeling wanna bring the tablet outside than the phone.

yup u are right, i used to think need 3G on tablet..also, if u are unifi user, u get the free streamyx wifi zone ID as well..
imho outside of apple the designs from samsung and asus are great looking and with heavy specs (for nb & tablets).
acer designs tend to be abit blocky. benq design tend to look like toy. msi is copy cat. hp/compaq only expensive units have great price. ibm/lenovo very unker.
i agree with Benny, always tethering my 3G for my wife's Desire when we are out. She doesn't need to get a data line - save money. If i buy a Prime, definitely will do the same. My phone will be 24/7 with me anywhere. Turning on the tethering take only few seconds.

Are you guys still aiming for Prime or already jump ship to the latest rumors of Lenovo 1.6ghz Tegra 3?
if and only if it come in Thinkpad Tablet form factor with the Stylus Pen. Else, the Prime with keyboard dock is more attractive.
Read that the UK launch price is set on 499 UK Pounds for the 32gb version. Quite expensive if you'd ask me. Will Asus launch it for a better price over here in Malaysia?

I believe it's about the same with the ipad 32gb's price.

really? from my sources i heard it will be USD$499 for the 32gb! add USD$149 for the keyboard dock.. very worth the money.
i think 90% sure i will get this. since i love the first Transformer. it is really promising as a tablet a.k.a laptop. if only there is a full feature office apps available for android, i dun even wanna glance at laptop.
Anyway, this is very interesting, maybe get this over Ipad 2.
if getting a tablet, i'd always highly recommend this. reason being the tablet is specially designed together with the dock. the dock is not an after thought accessory but rather what makes the tablet a 'transformer'. keyboard really does help when one needs to do intensive typing...
Really? I thought same as Tab, got 3G can use for calls and sms. Guess not
u r talking about the first gen samsung tablet which runs froyo / gingerbread which has phone functions. on honeycomb tablets, don't have phone function at all.
in ICS maybe they will introduce phone functions on tablets, just maybe.

I see.. never use honeycomb before thought all the same guess have to search around for another second phone then
Since they delayed the release, is it safe to assume that it might come with ICS instead of honeycomb?
looks like the warranty is not international from what i heard
thanks, now B&H listed its arrival in December. I expect late December release in US and we get it mid January in Malaysia. Can get one after getting my bonus for CNY.

is B&H meant to be getting later than others? Gamestop listed as next week but the postage a bit steep..maybe i should wait few more days
It's very tough to gauge release even if Amazon or Best Buy has it in their inventory system. Asus might backtrack due to issues. But once released, the rest of the world should be very fast in getting it.
I just hope that it don't sold out as fast as the 1st transformer...

may i know the current TF101/TF201 can do USB tether for internet? if wifi hotspot then the phone battery will die very fast..
The video has been removed. Of all Transformer Prime reviews, none has any info about it's performance in benchmark. This is one of the video that actually show its performance in Antutu which is just about 6.5k (SGS2 is 6.2k) when running on Honeycomb 3.2.1.
The only recorded performance that somehow seem allowed is the default score ranking of TF201 running in Ice Cream Sandwich which score more than 10k...
Well, that seem reasonable since ICS will have GPU accelerations by default. Most likely, all phone with decent GPU will gain performance in ICS.
With that low score for a quad core CPU when running Honeycomb, it make sense for Asus / nVidia to have all those video removed...
may i know the current TF101/TF201 can do USB tether for internet? if wifi hotspot then the phone battery will die very fast..
My new Note is quite capable of doing wifi hot spot - no major effect on battery life if using it for hotspot for 1 hour or so - may take away 20% of battery life the max. Previously using Desire HD or Desire, hotspot is quite useless as the battery draining like water tap open to its max.
Some more can just charge the phone with the Prime since it has a USB on the tablet itself.
BTW, the user manual can be download from Asus web site already. Can have an early preview of the function.
yes, SRP for tablet only is USD499 while the dock is USD149. Looking at current exchange rate, the SRP for Malaysia shall be around RM2,099 for tablet+dock if it is launched within this month.

and the pre-order from garage sale is RM2199 for 32GB+dock for early birds. so that amount is quite fair. but he also stated the price might be increased if the supplier increase the price..
whats the price difference when transformer 1 released?
iirc, quite close to US pricing with direct conversion of USD>>RM, max differ by RM100. Singapore pricing was more expensive though, partly due to the 7% GST.
When can we expect Asus Malaysia to give out more information on when it will be available and for what price? Almost December already.... Is it just a matter of keeping an eye out for their website updates?
If Lenovo's LePad K2 come out around the same time as transformer prime did, I will have hard time to choose bcos K2 rumours to have 1.6GHz Tegra 3 proc, 2GB DDR3 memory n probably the screen resolution of 1920×1152.
Not to mention other things like finger scanner, full sized usb port ... etc.

I am more interested if Lenovo releases an updated Thinkpad Tablet on Tegra3. It is more business-like and most of the connectors are on the tablet itself. The only plus point the Transformer dock to me is the extra battery life, else would rather have the Thinkpad Tablet form factor.

Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime Review to be Released SOON!
Posted on November 30, 2011 by admin| 1 Comment
We have been asked by ASUS Australia if we could suspend this review until the 1st of Dec and in the interest of goodwill, we have decided with a heavy heart to comply with their request.
Is that mean Australia will release on 1st Dec as well ? N come stock with ICS ?
Hope it's worldwide release on 1st day of December, but hope it come with honeycomb or at least flash support on ICS come sooner.
not gonna happen mate. he just saying he will release another review on 1st Dec. im in australia and everyone including me expect it will be released after xmas

Actually he's saying he pull back his review as per request from Asus until 1st Dec, not another review. There might be a reason Asus want the review only be out on or after 1st Dec ?
I am not certain you will get it before X-mas as Asus is doing its utmost best to postphone everything related to the release date. Even reviews are taken offline...I hope you are lucky, but I'm afraid we all have to wait
Not sure, but all thoughout the world webshops are asked to remove pre-orders, bloggers are asked to remove reviews...so I guess they must have their reasons for this..

at least there are some US store haven't close the pre-order and there is nothing wrong to take pre-orders too
Saw someone calling with her 10.1 tablet. Clearly noticed she was having great difficulties having a normal conversation. She places the tab to her ears...looked ridiculous .
I will cancel my plan to purchase this device if it will only be released on next Jan...going to stick with my current sg tabs 10.1 and keep looking for other new model..

i bet it will or maybe longer especially in malaysia
i can wait, no hurry to get a tablet since i just got my 5.3" Galaxy Note. If by Jan/Feb, Lenovo annouces Tegra3 update for Thinkpad Tablet, will get that instead.
Although google/asus gave the device way earlier to websites and magazines, they have to agree to only publish their reviews on and after a specific date - this being Dec 1 1am US time.
pretty standard procedure for many electronic device.

its sucks that it charge using a proprietary connector.
if use USB charging don't know when can fully charge, probably after 12 hours?
anyway, can we use bluetooth mouse and keyboard with just the on board bluetooth pairing? or do we still need to plug in a bluetooth dongle into the USB slot?
Ya, SGS2 has lower resolution (much lower ok?!), but TF201 performance on Honeycomb is really not very impressive. Hopefully ICS can really bring the power of out of Tegra 3.

current transformer can do that... heck, you can even root it to pair it with a ps3 controller... so go figure..
owh yeah, i have only know it works with a bluetooth keyboard.. mouse not sure.. but i think not a problem..

I've seen some post lamenting about the lack of 3G support. Asus might release TF201-G (like what they did with the original transformer) in the future. So either you wait or hope someone from XDA could port drivers for 3G usb dongles. A couple of 3G USB dongles have been demonstrated to work with the original transformer. Plus, since the drivers are just linux kernel modules, I don't see why it would be difficult for devs to get the drivers which are currently working with TF101 to TF201. Of course, you would have to get the keyboard dock for the USB port though.
Anyway, back to the transformer TF201. I'm a little disappointed with tegra 3's ULP Geforce though. Apart from the dedicated hardware that could finally fully offload decoding of high profile 1080p H264-encoded videos, I expected a wider margin in GPU performance improvement compared to the iPad2's PowerVR SGX543MP2. I'm basing this off anandtech's review. (Yes. I know there is a difference in 300k pixels between the iPad2 and the TF201. But I expected the improvement to be big enough to offset this minute difference). Anyway, the review is quite preliminary and I might be wrong considering that better drivers might be included in the ICS release.

Yeah, someone posted that a few page back but from different source. The pics look damn nice but it would be so weird taking pics using a tablet that size my personal opinion of course
Top of all Android tablet. But unfortunately, as expected, performance is not that much better for a quad core CPU.
that is because of marketing la. nama aja quad core, but each of the cores itself are different. for instance, one of the cores is 5MHz, and used for very specific purposes.
that, and those linpacks or whatever tests are just synthetic tests, don't really translate to real-world use. I'm pretty sure those tests does not support the instruction extensions of quad-core processors yet.
Truth be told I'm more interested to see HD video playback performance for the Prime like non-baseline-encoded h.264 MKV videos. kinda sucks that only movies encoded by groups like FASM or HDLiTE (heavily compressed) have acceptable framerates. buat lah android version 10 pon, if google still refuse to address movie playback issues then forever la android is just a hack-OS, not a real one.
would Prime be released in singapore first ah? don't really mind driving down there just to get one

-The GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) in the Tegra 3 Soc has 12 shaders. But, because Nvidia has not followed a unified-shader architecture in this ARM SoC like they've been doing in their PC and MAC discrete graphics cards, 8 of those 12 shaders are reserved for pixel work and the remaining 4 are for vertex. Maybe Nvidia will use unified-shader architecture in the next generation Tegra SoC'es, when the ARM-based devices are ready for it. The PowerVR MP2 GPU in the iPad 2 has more raw power than the Tegra 3 GPU (Actually, it's the only one thing I personally like about the iPad 2, it's GPU!), but the Tegra 3 Geforce (the commercial name Nvidia uses for their gaming graphics processors) should give a solid 3D performance in games, especially the officially supported games. Nvidia has long history in 3D gaming and been using it's solid connections with game developers to bring higher quality gaming to Android, like what we've seen with Tegra 2 SoC capabilities in games listed in the TegraZone Android app. Add to that, games are not just GPU bound, Tegra 3's quad-cores and 1GB system RAM (iPad has 512MB) will pump up gaming qualities for sure and the pixel density of 149ppi displays crisper images than the 132ppi of the iPad 2. Once the Asus Prime is released, it can be officially considered the highest performing Android device in the world, especially 3D gaming.
so ya,is about how it perform and not about the benchmark. at least Tegra 3 performing well especially in 3D gaming and full hd video
I have TF101, I look at TegraZone, there is only a hand-full of quality game. Most (if not all) already released in iPad2.
Benchmark is not everything, but it tell u how it is expected to perform. With these number, please dont expect the unrealistic performance from TF201. You can still hope, but dont be surprise if it will never come.
What is the main explanation those tablet supliers do not release these devices with 3G from day 1? Most people with tablets are on the road...not always can you connect easily to wifi.....how come it is always a 2nd version that has 3G support...?
Can I just connect to my iphone via tethering to the prime and have wifi whereever I go?

Thanks for the clever reply. I should have perhaps mentioned I meant it more as in 'does it actually work proper' as I always have problems with tethering to my laptop...
What is the main explanation those tablet supliers do not release these devices with 3G from day 1? Most people with tablets are on the road...not always can you connect easily to wifi.....how come it is always a 2nd version that has 3G support...?

the biggest issue with using phone as the wifi hotspot instead of your tablet is battery life. I'd rather let the phone connect my hotspot-enabled tablet since the tablet has bigger battery and (logically) better reception due to the larger size (thus larger antenna, generally lah). i carry my Transformer pretty much everywhere, so it's a no-brainer for it to be the hotspot IMO. It already is my extra battery charger for my phone

Its depend on ppl preferences... If I have hotspot enabled tablet... why would I connect my phone to it since I have bigger screen... than using the phone... If you are a heavy tablet user... than must wait for 3G tablet but if a casual user... like me.. will go for wifi version as I can connect to my phone hotspot... and the tablet can be my extra battery charger.... ^so you not losing anything here I believe... Then again... it's all depend ppl preferences...

OR you could get a Mifi modem. If you're already spending RM2k on a tablet, what's RM 200 for a mifi modem that allows you AND a colleague to get to do work outside the office?

you can, but it's less elegant, and one more device (and cable) to carry
But launching or releasing ? They can launch 1st then released weeks later ... However, my hands itchy already, just bought galaxy tab 10.1 3G yesterday.
Launch date and price are both not confirmed yet in Malaysia. Asus Malaysia was quite vague at their fb page, but stated they meant their statement as a teaser. I am in hurry, but if Asus Malaysia decides to launch after January I am definitely waiting out until Q1 2012 has passed to see how the prime compares to the other brands with the tecra3...
I was aiming for Samsung 7.7 but luckily it was delayed. Cause this Asus Prime is now my top priority. Definitely more sleek than samsung 7.7. Especially the dock feature to turn it into something like at laptop.
I am starting to doubt if I go for this one or if I should wait it out a bit more .
The main reason is that I can't stand the fact that the tablet is for sale in Taiwan for RM1,521 (USD485 - 32gb - no dock) and in the US itself for USD499.
If people over here start guessing prices in the RM2000+ range, which would equal to well over USD630, there would be serious hesitation to spend that amount for the device; especially when soon all brands will launch their tecra3 tablet...
Still have to wait for final price indication over here though....
tablet market is very competitive now. They won't be dumb enough to sell it at expensive price. It should be around the range of USD499 converted to RM. That is we are not referring to the high prices people are willing to pay for parallel importers for getting the item in early. Those are small niche of rich people who are willing to pay a lot for the exclusivity. Deciding now whether to buy or not based on rumour is not a smart consumer.
I was wondering. Does anyone know if the device is able to play 720p or 1080p files directly from the MicroSD card? Is it even possible to put a - let's say - 8gb 1080p .mkv on the MircroSD and play it immediately from the card?
I mean, the regular 32GB would in that case be enough, as I would just buy a few of those 32GB MicroSD cards (saw them for around RM160 at the forums. Easier too, as I can just insert another card on the go....
Anyone has any experience with this? If I cannot play immediately from the card, there's no point in having the card at all besides to use one to transfer stuff easily (should I not get the dock)....

The microsd card formatted with fat32 file system, sadly fat32 have file size limit of 4GB per file, that's mean u need to split the 8GB file into 2.
Whether prime can play direct from microsd without lag or other issue, that I'm not sure but with class 10 microsd I think should be no problem.

Thanks for the input. It cannot be formatted into NTFS for bigger file size support? Does it have to be FAT32 to be noticed by the Prime?
I can still live with it. My main reasons for buying this device is that my old Cowon A2 media player is starting to deteriorate (actually it still works like a charm, but I cannot watch .mkv's on it ) and I need a replacement that can play at least 720p content flawless...

U can format it into ntfs with ur Windows PC, but android cannot support/mount ntfs by default.

This is what I did upon anticipating a loong flight to Beijing and beyond.
1. Install MX Video player (and the arm7v codec) from Market 2. only get mkv videos done/encoded by groups like FASM and HDLiTE by searching those names on your favourite place to get movies or, if you know what you're looking for, get the ones encoded specially for xbox 360 or ps3 playback, or encoded using baseline profile. 3. reformat your microsd to exFAT (more details here ), tools available for xp and win7 also. no need to worry about 4gb limit anymore. But I personally bought a 500gb external notebook hdd seagate goflex, one that doesn't need external power. put all my fasm & hdlite encoded movies there. and apparently all my ntfs-formatted thumbdrives work 4. in mxplayer, can set mkv files to use hardware playback, with software audio playback. perfect, no lag (except a bit during seeking the movie) at all except for scenes with many light rays, but won't go out of sync.
I could get my transfofoformer to play movies one whole day straight during the flight. the keyboard really helps as a really really stable stand, especially during rough flights. by far, the best experience I've had with an electronic device (before was the discontinued 20gig sony mp3 player which played music for one whole week without charge )

Wow, you went trough much trouble to make this happen. I'm sure it will be different with the prime right; why else would those reviewers say it swallows every type of .mkv container without troubles or hickups...
But that exFAT tip is nice; you mean that Android does accept files above 4gb when it is formatted in exFAT?
Your example is spot on; I fly to the Netherlands at least once a year + numerous other flights....so it would be kinda nice to put some stuff on there to keep me busy.
haha, not exactly that much of a trouble. I know google/android have yet to make audio/video a priority of some sort, so i searched for a player that supports hardware decoding - from rockplayer to bsplayer to mobo to tons of others - before settling on mx. and i know that android's hardware is quite slow than desktop, so no high profile or high quality or large file sized hd files, so i opted for baseline encoded ones. searched around, and finally found fasm and hdlite encoded to be the best (for hollywood lah).
actually the display for transfofofomer is small enough that should you play a good quality 540p movies, it will still look almost as good as a baseline hd files. that's what i've found. can try downloading 540p + 720p + 1080p FASM-encoded files (since they have quite a few versions of the same movie) and see for yourself.
i wouldn't trust the reviewers that much if i were you. they tend to sugarcoat it a bit when it comes to reviewing. for instance, they didn't tell you the trouble that you gotta do to "play mkv without hiccups" right?
Euhm...nope...I am considering this device as they say it will play every .mkv given without support issues....
If not, then I go for the Archos 101 G9, because that device is way cheaper, has 3g (via dongle) and supports every format without support issues or hickups...
That said; I don't mind downloading certain specific file types of which it is certain it will always play proper (like the ones you mentioned). I also do not mind batch converting of existing .mkv files (read something about that for Android); as long as I do not have to go through hours of hassle for each single media file....
This post has been edited by DikkieD: Dec 10 2011, 10:42 AM
well you can try transcoding your mkv into smaller ones, but that alone is a whole new world, and to get the best quality and speed is a matter of hours and hours of testing and re encoding and command lines
but every mkv? hmmm i doubt it. mkv is just a container after all, you can put divx video, or x264, or bluray, or dvd, or all at once. even mp4 alone has many different variants. but hey, if prime can really do that then great man! no need to get baseline encoded anymore
Well, I know for 100% that the new Archos 80 & 101 G9 have the right tools/software to support every file. I haven't read from people that ran into support issues yet with that device. The thing is; it is catering towards the lower end of the market (while the hardware of the device itself apparently is stunning). I like the Prima better as it seems more sturdy, and overall it is just plain better than the Archos...except for the .mkv support so it seems

I am wonder if there are any difference in playing 480p, 720p and 1080p contents in tablet devices. With a resolution of 1280x800 (or around that range) for most tablets, is it really important to go even 1080p?
No point in watching 1080p on these resolutions no. I mean, even on screens below 42" 'Full HD' is of no real use. It is just that I am lazy, and those file types are most common available. But with that prime for example; I would never ever download 1080p when there's also a 720p source available (which usually is). Even 540p would be sufficient, but I am not that familiar with them..

540p encodes are basically 1/2 of the resolution of 1080p encodes
540 x 2 = 1080
get it?
basically imagine staring at 1920 x 1080 pixels on a 42" tv. or 1280 x 720 pixels, just for comparison's sake.
well imagine, looking at the same amount of pixels on a 10" lcd screen. of course, the actual pixel size is a lot smaller to fit in all of those 1280x720 pixels right.
a fast and easy way to determine wether the video is "good enough" for tablet viewing, is to open the video file on your pc, preferably on a HD resolution lcd monitor.
if the original video size on your monitor is about the same size as your tablet, and you feel the video has acceptable quality, then ok lah. if not then gotta get a higher-res video la.
if the original video size is big, or fill up your monitor (if it's 1920x1080 resolution lah, since your monitor also that resolution), then scale it down until about the size of your tablet screen. if the quality improves, then ok lah tu.
Uncertain if it would matter for launch/release in Msia though
There is not a confirmed news officially announced by ASUS or other more proper media. I search around and found mostly point back to same source. I am still waiting for this hitting the shelves here! after knew about Asus Transformer even the 1st one, there is no other tablet can catch my eyes, ipad2, galaxy tabs etc.
the SRP will be USD499 for 32GB WIFI model. Docking add another USD149.
sucks that many many android apps aren't compatible with the Transformer
but surprisingly when i get those apps from "other sources" most of the time i can play it flawlessly. like today's 10cent apps asphalt 6 hd and the sims, they all work on my transformer perfectly, but you can't download it from market because it's not compatible.

a lot of bloggers and forums just simply take rumors as official first hand intel and then spread everyway. Dec2011 or Jan2012, this is still my first choice for it's features. Hopefully the Jan stock will preload with ICS!

This is not true. I can see very big difference between 720p and 1080p files on my 40" FullHD LCD TV. The details are very real. Even on my 720p 32" HD ready LCD TV, 1080p is still better due to the higher bit rate, with less smudges of colour in dark/same color areas. I have like 4TB of HD movies currently. So don't argue with me...
But on a small tablet, 720p is more than enough.

if ur tv big and u sit not far... u will notice the picture less sharp on 720p (but this also only apply if ur tv is full hd), 1080p on the other hand will be more sharp becoz of the more pixel it has in it to fill out the 1080p TV of urs..... 720p u will have less pixel to fill a 1080p tv hence less sharp.
how many people will always copy 1080 file to watch in the tab? perhaps one time happy only.
Yeh, a full HD without compress is around 20GB , no one go copy it . Only Asus have SD card slot support 64GB Class6 maybe 3 movies . No one will use it to watch , except some compress HD .mkv file.

Buy a 720p HD ready LCD and watch 720p . you'll get sharpest. By ,next year , there'll be retina display on Galaxytab and ipad3 , then you can watch it full HD.

generally yes, but only to a certain extent.
if you buy a high-end HDTV, it'll probably have a very good upscaling tech built into it.
what most people don't know is that 1080p is just the pixel size. if a 1080p video is poorly encoded, low bitrate, it will look worse than an upscaled 720p with high bitrate, high profile encoding, etc.
for comparison's sake (easy style comparison): Bluray 1080p = 25GB disc = 40Megabit persecond bitrate (video data per second) MAX DVD9 = 8GB = 10 Mbps DVD5 = < 5GB = 2-5Mbps Astro 1080p HD = 1~3 Megabit per second per channel (the more HD channel, the less bitrate per channel) 1080p MKV file = 2 - 5 Mbps, some can go 10 Mbps
there are many, many factors concerning video encoding/rendering technology and skill, which is why groups like FASM, HDLiTE, etc exists. because it's never as easy as comparing 1080p vs 720p.
This post has been edited by C-Fu: Dec 13 2011, 02:06 AM
So I should look for "ANDROID IPAD MP4-FASM" and "720p.BRRip.x264-HDLiTE"...both crews don't have that much, but they do have the latest movies.
Must start looking into converting them myself as I watch the latest movies on my big tv and not on a tablet. On the tablet I watch mostly series; but they don't seem to encode those yet...

I cant see the differences on my 40" full HD, I stop downloading 1080p now if there's 720p source, good enough, faster download and ease on my hdd.
I sit very close to my TV, around 8 feet from screen.
Well, much of the media I watch will be from home. Perhaps I can just stream the original 720p files (of those series) directly via wifi. For example a typical Big Bang Theory file:
About the resulution and differences between 720p and 1080p and such; all of my friends don't give a rats ass about the crisp quality. They are amazed of course of how crisp it is, but if I ask them (or even my wife) if they see difference they all say no.
Shitty that Asus Msia still hasn't released any genuine information about release date and price...

unfortunately I've yet to find a decent-enough mkv/hd streaming player for the transformer/android. the linus guy in your link mentioned about a streaming app, but not too clear with the name.
that said, with MX Video Player I'm able to (partially) stream videos. what I normally do is i open my shared videos folder from my Win7 pc (using File Manager HD), navigate to the mp4/mkv and play using MX. streaming video files downloaded from youtube (from my pc) is perfect, but streaming other mkv/mp4 (even hdlite or fasm ones) is a bit of a hit or miss (more miss than hit). most of the time cannot be played at all. anybody else have any luck?

No one really able to difference 720p vs 1080p if they never compare with a 1080p video before. Like a food which you never taste before , how do you compare AAA food is superior than BBB food ? Problem only arise if you compare them.
Guessing the price would be around 1.7-2k for tablet and rm500 more for keyboard if getting separately .Sg will release next year.Maybe we'll be getting at Middle if Jan-Feb hopefully not march.
would they be releasing the 64GB model over here? With all the 10 cent 3D games and tegra games that I've been buying over the past few days, right now i gotta shuffle and remove-reinstall games just to get some extra space.
sucks that google thought honeycomb have no need for any additional storage in their OS
This post has been edited by C-Fu: Dec 14 2011, 02:12 AM
even with the 16gb model, it's more than enough for u to install the apps if u have an SD card to store other stuff like movies and songs
that is the funny part most user prefer as big as possible then dumb everything inside ... anyway, i do find 16 gb is good enough + it come with sd card slot ....
read it. I think it's a very good move. but they should offer bigger storage phone. 16G is just not enough
quote from Android Engineer Dan Morrill
QUOTE
ICS supports USB Mass Storage (UMS). The Galaxy Nexus does not. This is the same scenario as Honeycomb, as for instance HC supports USB Mass Storage while Xoom does not.
If a given device has a removable SD card it will support USB Mass Storage. If it has only built-in storage (like Xoom and Galaxy Nexus) it will (usually) support only MTP and PTP.
It isn't physically possible to support UMS on devices that don't have a dedicated partition for storage (like a removable SD card, or a separate partition like Nexus S.) This is because UMS is a block-level protocol that gives the host PC direct access to the physical blocks on the storage, so that Android cannot have it mounted at the same time.
With the unified storage model we introduced in Honeycomb, we share your full 32GB (or 16GB or whatever) between app data and media data. That is, no more staring sadly at your 5GB free on Nexus S when your internal app data partition has filled up -- it's all one big happy volume.
However the cost is that Android can no longer ever yield up the storage for the host PC to molest directly over USB. Instead we use MTP. On Windows (which the majority of users use), it has built-in MTP support in Explorer that makes it look exactly like a disk. On Linux and Mac it's sadly not as easy, but I have confidence that we'll see some work to make this better.
On the whole it's a much better experience on the phone.
What u talking? I thought all transformers comes with sdcard slot?
it's different. See Honeycomb (in transformer or xoom or most tablets) or Android 3.x doesn't support running/storing apps or app data to external storage - be it SD Card, MicroSD or USB drives.
if you look at the file structure, the folder /sdcard is in the internal memory itself. Quite different than say, virtually every phone which runs Android 2.x where /sdcard is the actual SD/MicroSD itself.
if you're like me, been downloading 3D/Tegra apps like crazy especially during these $0.10 app sale for the last 7 days, you'll see your space shrinking like crazy. Most 2D apps are OK, the highest amount of downloadable data being only 20MB or 50MB. But 3D apps, not so small.
Asphalt 6 HD: 500+ MB GOF2: 500MB Great Battles: Medieval: 500MB Shadowgun (really pretty and awesome 3D shooter): 600MB Captain America: 250MB Riptide: 500MB Trainz: 300MB Pro Eleven Soccer: 150MB
...... and so on
most of these 3D games will download extra files to the /sdcard folder. so in Honeycomb/Transformer it will be the internal memory, while phones it will be in the microsd card folder.
my 3D games in total (around 20) takes up almost 8GB of space luckily my work files can be saved to my 32GB microsd and 32GB sd. if you read from llobak's link, you can have a better idea of what google is doing with honeycomb (and android 4.0 icw ):
QUOTE
First we designated a particular directory on internal storage as being the "SD card". Then we implemented a FUSE filesystem that does nothing except re-mount that directory as /sdcard, except discarding all permission checking. Except for permissions, the FUSE filesystem is a straight pass-through, so actual files get read from and written to the directory. IOW we use a "fake" proxy FUSE filesystem to remount a specific directory to pretend to be an SD card. This is totally transparent to apps, they can't tell they aren't talking directly to a disk.
you can read further in the link to see why with Honeycomb google decided that /sdcard should be internal, and not the real sd card (which is /Removable/SD or /Removable/MicroSD). I can understand google's decision, but it would leave power users like me unable to maximise the full use of my Android machine. If 16GB is a lot for you, then OK man, good on ya but for people like me, we really have to choose carefully of our Honeycomb/ICW device with big big internal storage, like the 64GB Transformer Prime

I've got tonnes of high end 3d games that uses a lot of storage space, but until now, my 16gb sd card isn't full yet, that's why if u get the 32gb version of the prime (i'm sure u'll AT LEAST get the 32gb), space won't be a problem. those users who are not as crazy like us, 16gb internal storage is more than enough.

for those who is long awaited for Eee Pad Transformer with 3G, it will be available at the end of December 2011! Do check with your nearest dealers to confirm its availability.
i dont mind it is delayed because i dont have the budget this month if it were to come out. furthermore, it'd better be problems-free when i get my unit. I dont want to buy something which turns out later to be problematic. Luckily they found out about the wifi antenna issue, if not, imagine if worldwide customers get a hold to a retail product and pay handsomely for it but with bugs and hardware-related probs. It could tarnish their name in the global tablet industry. i'd say, +1 for Asus. GG Asus!
What do we have here. Oh yes, it’s yet another lawsuit from a company attacking an Android manufacturer. Nothing new there. Or is it? In a surprising twist, this time, the lawsuit has nothing to do with an Android competitor.
Seems Hasbro isn’t too keen on ASUS allegedly “stealing” one of their trademarks when they released the Transformer Prime (now being shipped). According to Hasbro, the Transformer Prime is clearly “stealing” their trademark from the Autobot leader, a Mr. “Optimus Prime,” who is the star of their Transformers franchise. Hasbro’s believes that ASUS was banking the fact that consumers would associate the convertible tablet with the animated TV show. They issued this statement:
QUOTE
“The specific actions we are taking today against ASUS underscores yet again Hasbro’s willingness to pursue companies who misappropriate our intellectual property for their own financial gain.”
I can’t imagine anyone could actually associate the tablet with a children’s TV show (and one of the best 80′s movies of all time) but I guess anything’s possible. Should ASUS be forced to change the name of the greatest Android tablet of all time to avoid a conflict with the greatest Autobot of all time?

I am quite dissapointed that every country has their own launch dates and estimates prices, but here we are still waiting for concrete information on when and where to buy it and for what price. A month ago I could understand not being able to give information; but this is a bit dissapointing.
FYI, got this from Asus Malaysia Facebook "Transformer Prime is tentatively will be released by middle of Jan 2012. However please do stay tune with us for the firm release date."
" part of the reason why we are unable to confirm the exact release date because we are actually in the midst of rectifying any possible issues that may be arise. Until the issue is fully rectified (hopefully), then only we will be able to tell."
Bollocks. The whole world has official launch dates and corresponding prices. There were issues; true, but not to the extent that Asus Malaysia should be still unable to tell exact dates/prices. I would have found it more plausable if they had said; "The whole world has been pre-ordering like crazy, so now Malaysia has to wait untill everyone else has his prime"...
Pre-orders from Comet in the UK have arrived, mixed impressions by first users. Some experience really dodgy problems, but others are perfectly happy with theirs:

Major problems have cropped up. First it was the wifi problem, had to recall back 300 units in Taiwan.
Fast processor , slimmer , better screen , better battery life Thats all? Its more like apple now.. Did they improve the camera too? But the design overall is better than eee pad,

from the photos taken by prime, they look nice.. and the bokeh is much nicer too with better night mode also.. if thats all true, the camera is a lot better compare to other tab in my opinion..but why do they take out gps but not solve the problem .. hopefully the price will be cheaper without gps

Well, it's the first tecraIII pad, which is quite the revolutionary improvement if you look at the benchmarks. Overall it is just a new and better version. To some slightly, to others the sole reason to buy their first tablet. I have been refraining from buying one as I didn't want the hassle of lag/stutter and shitty movie quality. This is why I waited for the tecraIII so I could play all media without hassle....or so I thought (and still hope!).
http://www.facebook.com/asus.sg?sk=wall Singapore set selling at SGD$899 Promotion is $699 still price not known at Malaysia , guess it wouldn't be cheap. The dock is SGD$199
Sum up = RM 2186 for the tab and RM483 for the dock. If really selling at malaysia and the price would be RM 2199 .2.2k for a tab without 3G and without GPS (poor signal) . Anyone really planning to buy ?
but US selling price is so much cheaper than sgp set??? hopefully msia set will not have that high sky price.. i was expecting rm2.1k-2.3k with dock which compare to rm1.8k of transformer 1.. but now..
Asus Malaysia <https://www.facebook.com/asusmalaysia> Dear all, price and specs shall reveal upon release. FYI, we will not be providing any pre-order service. The release date will on this month, stay tune for the actual date announcement
Please ASUS Malaysia not so pricey for the Prime. You surely don't want your fb wall filled with disappointed customers... http://www.facebook.com/asus.sg?sk=wall
then consider no gps lorh. they cant even promise that it is working. never thought it would happen after a long wait. well, apart from the disappointment, it's a good thing tech moves on fast nowadays. bye2 TP. (
and i hope you'll get sued for using the name of Optimus Prime!!

i'm also fxcking frustrated, so hyped up about this, but in the end, no gps (as u said, weak gps = no gps). was planning to get a multi function tablet to replace my ageing laptop, for car gps / entertainment system + multimedia system during my lunch / dinner time entertainment + travel companion to remote access my Linux servers (need the keyboard to type commands). but the gps is such a let down! now don't know what to buy already......i won't get dual core tablets, and other brand's quad core tablets don't have any news yet...

Sg set SGD$899 + dock SGD$199 = 1098 SGD =RM 2676 + No GPS , No 3G Will get one only if price drop. Why spend RM 2.7k for a tab which doesn't properly function GPS + no 3G and can't use 3g USB port to go online. With 2.7k , you can get a fruitpad 3
QUOTE(sugebleach @ Jan 5 2012, 02:47 PM)
haha so many ppl complain to ASUS sg... but it is really pricey if selling at $899 compare to US $499
Hope malaysia price will be cheaper by at least below >2k

You can consider the delay of almost 1 min and if you are traveling at highway = no GPS at all. The aluminum casing is the culprit as asus QC didn't check on it.

Yes I can save my RM3k for something else... No GPS no 3G nothing to brag about.. it's not all in 1 tablet. Who's going to buy tablet just for gaming purpose? I want internet on the go... Hope other brands will create better tablet.
the gps issue might slow down the sales of this device.
the gps and high price will definately slow down the sales..and if every where run out of stock, it will even make those who interested get mad and give up of waiting.. like what happen to tf1 last time...search for it almost 1 month+ only got stock.. the hype also came down that time.
if really above rm2.3k, i will hold it till the price come down to at least 2k.. i believe after next month, other manufacturers will all come out with many more model.. like samsung and acer..

Just received my 32GB grey prime. Updated to the latest firmware, charging and playing with it now. Extremely disappointed with the wifi and GPS performance.
For Wifi, I was able to get full bar with my transformer, but only 2/4 bars with the prime. Haven't tested the exact speed yet.
For GPS (indoor), I put it side by side with my phone, my phone was able to detect a row of satellites in less than 15 seconds with GPSTest, while the prime was still searching for signals after 3 minutes.
I am seriously considering if I should return it.
Update: Ran speedtest on both my phone, PC and prime all with Wifi, results looked comparable. So I guess my only concern now is the GPS performance.

Is there any hope that ASUS would mass produce a new batch that would solve this hardware issue? One that has a plastic part to act like a window for the antenna and GPS receiver.

Hey, where did you get your Prime from? Pre-order from US?
So far the estimated price that I've heard from shops selling Asus is about RM2099. One forummer is selling for RM2199 in this forum as well. So I guess it won't be as high as Sgp price lo.... Any of you confirmed getting it? I've been waiting for it for so long and have even sold my iPad about a month ago anticipating this release.... So yeah I guess I'm almost sure to buy it.
We're so much focused on the bad side of this tablet. Why not take a look from a different view.
Readable outdoor Quad-core gaming (can also cucuk ur xbox and ps3 controller) External storage Tablet to Netbook hybrid Confirmed ICS this 12th
We have to accept it has poor wi-fi and GPS, it sucks I know. But hey, it's the most powerful android tablet to date!
This prime is so much smoother to navigate and use compared to the transformer. I played a few 1080p videos from Youtube and see no lag at all. The screen is bright and clear, and yeah the super IPS mode for outdoor viewing.

And of course it is lighter and sexier too.
Many are getting it because of the keyboard dock. It opens the tablet to an entirely new world. I plan to use it to upload photos (by the batch) to FB via the keyboard SD card slot.
even there is no issue with gps,i wont use mobile device(phone, tablet) as main gps for car as i feel they not reliable enough compare to standalone gps device..as long as google maps working then is fine

i know tablet or smart phone can do everything in 1 device but sometime i prefer reliable device for something else such as gps..
i had a weak gps device before which has a weak GPS but at least it gave me an accurate location in google maps..
i'm using my phone as a gps now, it also has a weak GPS (HTC, which is known to make it's devices using aluminum). if the sky is clear it's very reliable, but when it's cloudy, it's so hard to get a lock. when i use my LG O2X as gps, it's super reliable even if it's raining cats and dogs because it's made out of plastic. In my experience, u don't really need a dedicated GPS device, just need a plastic phone or tablet to do the job. and there's no turn by turn navigation in google maps (for malaysia), that's why i don't use it during driving.

Agree with stormlcc. I buy tablet not to play games or casual internet surfing but for business purpose. So gps and 3G absolutely important to me. Perhaps person like me is not their target market.

it's not about us wanting to use it as a primary GPS device. but tablets nowadays, the gps is like a mandatory requirement in the spec. despite whether you use it or not, it should be there. even my old nokia got a working GPS, and it locks pretty fast too for an old device. If you pay handsomely for it, why not getting it all in one device? I've been waiting for it like mad, but since it got a prob with GPS and Wifi signal, then i guess I have to just wait for a better replacement model. I hope Asus would at least have a shot in improvising the model and release another version of Prime somewhere around this year with EVERYTHING's fixed. I'd buy it despite the problems if and only if the price makes sense. But i doubt so. So waiting is the game I have to play for now. Let those eager beavers have a hand on the device 1st and see how it goes from there.

the GPS itself is there but just not performing well only..
i know u trying to say weak = no gps but in theory that GPS just there.it still usable but not performing well
also, many people still get it works perfectly.so depends on ur 'luck' lol

I need it for pleasure mainly. Watching movies and such. On the couch I will use it for reading/browsing and checking email. I do not expect to do real business on it. It is mainly for consuming instead of producing. Perhaps it will be different in the near future with w8. But now with Android I don't have high expectations. I don't care about GPS, I don't care about games, I don't care about 3G.
All that will probably be there when I buy the better tab in a year orso. If you guys are hoping to use this item for many years; then you better wait for the one which has all the features. Right now I settle for media in HD, smooth browsing/viewing and WIFI.
I will be a happy camper. I was notified I could pick up the Prime next week in Spore. Lucky me, I had already planned a trip there that week...couldn't be more lucky (so it seems, will be enthusiastic when I have the device in my hands ).

oh, you were one of the first 100 who mailed them about the pre-order?
Apparently, but I guess you and many others misread; they said "Be one of the first 100 Facebook Fans to own the new Prime"....not "The first 100 replies automatically get a launch Prime"....unless they changed this in the TOC later...
but spore price seems kinda steep. most likely will get a msian set, should be RM100-150 cheaper than spore set after conversion.
eyeing on the prime too but no hurry to get it as i got my Note to play around at the moment. hopefully 2 or 3 months down the road, they manage to come out one problem-free.

RM2.1k? im not following malaysia price and i ordered mine from US just $499 which is very cheap for me.
anyway, the bold part you mentioned was simply lame and doesnt make sense AT ALL. looks like u hate TP so much.
well, you got an answer, galaxy tab works fine for u and u don need TP
Yeah, no TP haters in this thread. I forgot to mention more.
micro HDMI output directly connect to HD tv (movies + games) extra 6hrs battery life in keyboard dock (no bluetooth keyboard gonna give that) first ever tablet to sports Tegra 3
what's not to love? maybe make a petition first for cheaper price from ASUS Malaysia.

Maybe I didn't explain well and what makes you think I hate TP.I just compare the price vs the need of one of the user meeninme post. 1. Compare to readable outdoor , yeh other product is cheaper and works better - GTab 10.1 2. Quad-core gaming when mention about xbox thing - A must to buy an extra keyboard which worth of RM 500 to plugin to the USB port 3. Tablet to Netbook hybrid is a great but compare to the keyboard price RM 500 is a bit expensive.Maybe getting this is better ? http://www.phonearena.com/news/Motorola-Wi...ands-on_id25096 4. ICS is an upgrade - software part . If you really need ICS , can go for custom rom.

that moto keyboard is HUGE, and fugly, and also expensive (RM300+ converted directly), it's trackpad is almost useless, and it doesn't provide extra battery. i prefer the TP keyboard dock, just because of the extra battery although it's not wireless. and it looks way nicer.
i really do hope ASUS can fix the GPS issue, but the way things are going, they might not be bothered. I agree they should really bring down the price to justify the useless GPS function.
there aren't any other tablets in the market that has almost all the things i want like the TP, the keyboard dock for me is VERY important because of typing Linux commands and also the extra juice it provides. although there are some wireless keyboards that can be used with tablets, they are quite big in size and uses the tablet's battery because of Bluetooth, and i hate to carry two different devices all the time (the TP and keyboard dock is considered as one device because.......it's a Transformer )
Nope. Two days ago Asus Malaysia posted a 2nd 'teaser' in their FB page. So far no dates, but they did get less cryptic by saying they would launch it in January. Good thing is that it hopefully comes preloaded with ICS. Other good things is that it is hopefully a batch with better TP's, without the main issues others experience...
this isn't such a good news, the good news (if it will ever happen) is that ASUS fix the GPS hardware issue. We all know that 3g version will come eventually, but most of us won't be bothered by it because we have wifi hotspot on our phones.
Well, the good news is that those that do want to wait for the 3G will give WIFI only peeps more chances of having it faster . If I could now choose between WIFI or 3G with not that much price difference, I'd go for 3G. Since I don't want to wait another month (and...probably 5 months to get it here in Msia) I will not bother and go for the WIFI.
Added on January 6, 2012, 10:30 pm I mention , I never hate any TP product , I just compare only. Micro HDMI even TF101 also have Yeh , 6hrs battery life in keyboard dock is good , advantage , no other product have it. first ever tablet to sports Tegra 3 but pricey only
If the price = TF101 , why not buying ? + GPS fix
since you comparing those, then maybe i can add my 'opinion' too
1. kindle fire can do outdoor reading for me 2. gaming with psp 3. get cheaper acer netbook rather than tablet 4. get HP touchpad and load it with custom ICS firmware..

so how about that?
The prime can do all of the above in one single device.
If not interested, who would bother lurking here and wait slowly for it to be available????
Damn, i got almost everything ready for this tablet liao, but yet so far still no news....
lol...its coming soon since asus said in fb it will be available this month..the only worry is will it repeat the history of tf1, every where out of stock when it launched.. but if the price is too high, i dun think it will be as hot as tf1..so maybe can get the stock easier..

what's the point of getting gps on such a big tablet? get a smartphone then
Just because you or [insert person] have no use of [a function] doesn't mean that it applies for other people as well.
it's a very useful tool for hikers and outdoor people, geo surveyors, etc. picture with GPS data, offline terrain map plotting, capturing images and putting it straight to a word doc. and this is just ONE application with GPS. seriously i don't even know why i bothered replying fanboi questions like this

Let's not debate whether is it good to use GPS on a 10 inch tablet.. it'll get us no where.
I think we all can agree is TP is great! but no GPS is dissapointing because we initially expected it to have it.
For those that want GPS + 3G, wait for TPv2 i guess For those that don't mind without GPS, go ahead with TP
GPS or no, it's still the 1st Tablet Tegra 3. And i think it'll be one of the tablets that gets the most support from XDA Dev, (same as HD2) which is my main reason for getting this

good news. i believe the TP 3G will have that GPS signal problem fixed. so just wait and see how Asus deal with this sort of thing. it is happening and there's nothing you can do. furthermore, TP with Win8 is otw though it might be long from now but well, still it is becoming a reality.

Got 3G version already? With Win8, that something to drool about
^not yet. It's otw. And only God knows when it's gonna be here in malaysia market. TP with Win8 is on its way too. but dont be too excited about it. It might be here end of this year. That if the earth would still exist by the end of this year. (

good news for those who can really wait, but for ppl like me who are already in the market for a laptop replacement, it's not news at all, i need the TP NOW! and by the time the 3g version comes out (2nd half of 2012), there would be tonnes of other choices like the Samsung (rumored) quad core 11 inch tablet with super high res screen.
What ? a downgraded processor to dual core for 3G model ?
QUOTE
According to folks at netbooknews, who were present at this press briefing, Asus will be launching a seven inch tablet as well as high res 10.1 model at CES next week. This high-res 10.1 model lines up perfectly with leaked Eee Pad TF202 about which we reported earlier today. This Transformer Prime variant was spotted at a benchmarking website and is supposed to feature 1920X1200p display and 1.5GHz dual core processor instead of Tegra 3 in OG Prime. http://androidos.in/2012/01/asus-transform...dels-confirmed/
Hope it's rumors

then you will be spoilt for more choices. waiting sucks, i know. but due to the fact that the current model ones do not interest you in any way, i believe, then waiting is your only choice unless you can live with the fact that your Prime has a faulty GPS.

Perhaps, but for those who wants/prefers the Asus model would most probably be because of the great integration with the keyboard+dock. Because without that, the TFP would essentially be like any other tablet (minus the GPS).
ASUS made a BIG BIG blunder over the use of aluminium casing for this one. You can almost see some bosses in ASUS goes "ok for TFP we put all aluminium case and charge a premium for it" without bothering asking engineers if it's a good idea or not.
3G signal would definitely be affected by the aluminium casing as well.
I think this is not a friendly thing towards current early adopters that have bought the first prime although it had many problems. I mean; adding a few different models to your line isn't a big deal, but it is when customers will see it more as a replacement for a faulty model...
Is this new model again even the 1st prime yet to begin selling officially in Malaysia? WTH..???
Well ... its just an announcement n wouldnt be released b4 2nd quarter even without delay (also more expensive). For me, its not a surprise anymore if there's a new android device coming out every 6 months.
Asus going to launch TP this week in sg Dear all, we understand many has concerns on the price of the Transformer Prime in SG, as well as the additional 200 sets of the Transformer Prime which we are offering to the public. Thus, this is an official statement from Asus to address your concerns. Hope this helps. Thanks for all the support.
1) Promotion for Facebook members are limited to 100 sets and we are offering an additional 200 sets (tablets only) to the public to purchase it at a special price of SGD$699. The difference between the Facebook promotion and the public is that for Facebook members, you are getting the bonus gift of the protective case whereby this is not offered to the additional 200 sets.
2) Official introductory retail price of Transformer Prime (tablet only): SGD$759 (UP: $899)
3) Official introductory retail price of Transformer Prime + Docking station: SGD$899 (UP: $1098)
Is there any hope that ASUS would mass produce a new batch that would solve this hardware issue? One that has a plastic part to act like a window for the antenna and GPS receiver.
