Thanks a lot for the answers guys.. i am not doubting the meego nor the phone.. i am slightly paranoid because I am currently using a phone whose OS (Symbian s60v5) had been discontinued (i think) and support for it is almost all-time low.. I bought this phone less than a year ago, and its price has taken a plummet to almost 50% of the price now (perhaps i had been ripped)..

those weren't the major issues, the major issues is the phone requires to be send back to the factory twice in less than a year (1 sent back, 1 scheduled to send back) with the touch screen issue and internal speaker issue. This 2 issues are consider major issues because it gives me alot of problem to actually use a phone as a phone (make phone calls or send sms)..

so i am currently looking for a new phone to save me from these miseries.. from what I read, N9 seems to be a pretty good phone? for now i don't have much question except for the OS updates that I was asking because I really not that familiar with meego. as a matter of fact, it's the 1st time I heard of it when i read about this phone.. (my apologies, i didn't research a lot on phone OS.. very out of date). sad.gif will spend some time lurking in this thread to see more about this N9. smile.gif

Let me guess, is it the Nokia N8?

I'm surprised you didn't ask about Meego apps because that is what most people are worried about. If you are not an app centric person or you can wait then N9 will suit you. There's no Whatsapp but eBuddy is in development. Video call will also be available soon. What's available now is not bad but still not complete. If you want an idea of what's available now go here: http://www.my-meego.com/software/index.php

Hi guys, wanna ask if you all know/think about meego has any further plans to upgrade the OS? because based on the meego website, in their roadmaps, they only state up to meego 1.3 which should is scheduled to release on Oct '11. Is there a meego 1.4 in the pipeline?

sorry i'm really fresh at meego, am interested in the N9 phone and currently trying to understand more.

if you are looking for a 'pure' meego experience, you may want to follow nemo mobile project
it should be feature complete soon and may be installed to N900/N950/N9

tctham, what are the major stuff you do on a smartphone. N9 has rather good social networkintergration. Good multitasking.

I find the old symbian 60v5 has more 3rd party apps compatible to it than symbian anna like certain ebook readers, games.

Happen to me before, after I restore the backup, it happen to my Google and Facebook account.
Everytime have to select offline then online, only it will go online. Until once, suddenly it prompt me for password, after key in password, then OK already.

This module not refine, currently very basic and not much option for your to meddled with, just basic function.

Another alternative to fix is to remove and re-add again, but I think this will remove the related contacts or contacts info and conversations.
*
Yes. Manage to solve the problem with the 2nd option. Thx so much Andy.

Anyway, I wanna share a new app called Action Cam. It's really cool and allows you to arrange images taken by ur N9 creatively. Available inside Nokia Store.

I'm not quite an app type of person.. i can survive without them.. for my current phone, i actually just use it to listen songs, take picture occasionally, surf internet, read pdf and etc.. most important is user experience.. apps are added bonus.. as long as it can perform the usual tasks nice nice, i'm more than happy to use it.. nah~ it wasn't the N8.. i was once a nokia fag.. then i jumped ship and bit the dust.. i decided to go back to nokia.. that's why now i'm looking at nokia phones.. So.. thus far is there any major hardware/software issues with N9? I can accept most drawbacks unless those are things that i cannot bear to live with.. care to share share? hehehe.. sorry but i baru decided to check out the phone just today.. so i have not really read alot of reviews on it. sorry ya~ by tonight or something, i should have read more reviews (i hope)

actually just the basics lo~ make phone calls, reply sms, read pdf (i do this alot), jot notes, take quick pictures (for memory/reference e.g. carpark), surf the net (when i have wifi connection). before this i didn't really use smart phones.. then when i got a smart phone, i got this stupid phone instead that give me alot of trouble.. so i dun really know what can i do on a smart phone.. would really appreciate if the phone can also do stop watch or count down timer.. (my current phone need to download 3rd party tools just to get a stop watch.. =.= maybe i'm not good at searching, after much trouble, i decided to use my watch instead.. ) i didn't get a data plan yet as well.. if i buy phone like N9, probably i'd consider getting data plan edi..

Andy, he's asking about os updates, not os versions.
*
Yes, but he's referring to the official MeeGo site, so what updates or revision on the site may not be applicable; If not, one might thought there is new release how come cannot update. So, just trying to differentiate or explain the differences.

Good phone and good OS; Updates are promised to come and support up another few years.

Not sure how long usually you use a phone, so the OS may not really be an issue, the main issue most people are actually concern with is the apps/games.

If you're from Symbian, then this phone will be a major change/improvement over Symbian.

tctham, there are plenty of stopwatch and timer apps for N9 to let you count up count down, lap times, group times, etc but they are 3rd party apps which have to be downloaded and installed. Which is very simple by downloading from Ovi store straight to your phone.

If you want a data plan with N9, check out Celcom and Digi. You can get a cheaper price with their N9 package.

Speaking about video at 720p, just to throw in another prespective, even videos taken by N8 using the beta camera app seemed to give trouble to N9's playback ability due to higher fps and possibly different codec profile, it shows how much problem you would face on daily basis regarding video playback.

You really want a Maxis data plan? They are the only telco which charge RM10 per MB when you exceed the quota. Other telcos just slow down your speed. The frightening thing is that when you want to check how much data you have used they will say, cannot check until billing cycle ends. So many users in iphone forum got i-shock when bill arrive loh!

family members use maxis.. alot of friends also using maxis.. if i change to other telco, i gonna be billed exorbitantly just from my calls and sms. >_< i think i should be able to refrain myself from hitting the dataplan limit (i hope).. my bills range from 50-90 excluding data plan.. i make phone calls and sms ppl very often.. (i think i am traditional social bird? instead of social media apps, i still use phone calls and sms.. haha)

updates are usually for bugs fixes, new features, performance and etc. If more than that its into customization. With the update of PR1.1 i am currently in love with my N9. Symbian ^3 and Meego is totally different league. The only complain i heard was the simcard issue. Beside that its excellent.

Benefits

Excellent build quality
Experience the fludity
Real time mutlitasking
Experience Meego OS
3 Homescreen concept
No Home button concept.

Cons
Limited apps for meego

from my experience only average lol. When i plug earphone on a Nokia N8 and Nokia N9. The Nokia N8 sounds better and loud speaker is louder as well.

Added on December 1, 2011, 3:57 pmi am also using maxis on my Nokia N9. I subscribe the 100MB and its more than enough as long as you dont stream video or music just facebook, twitter, foursquare and some website.

In sense of speed and coverage i never had issue. my celcom broadband once awhile slow and some place no signal.

maxis dont have contract for n9. I am using maxis prepaid, so i subsribe the data plan according to usage. Maxis 3G is fastest and best coverage in my area, kampung also can gwt internet line.

for me, main disadvantage of n9 is no sd card slot, battery not user removable, cannot play rmvbvideo with stock player, not compatible with certain ebooks that i use. They support symbian but not meego. N9 has a ebook reader app that can read in epub format, so no prob for most commercial ebooks.

one of the things i find unique to n9 is community support. 1st time got after sales service from the developer of the app, haha. Just post query, bugs in maemo forum, the developer will reply.
