Here's a tip increase the volume of your N9.
http://everythingn9.com/increase-the-volum...-your-nokia-n9/

However I was not able to complete the instruction as I could not get to PreDriv in terminal. Some Sifu may know better.

If Nokia had fully backed Meego and put in half the money they are using to promote WP7, the N9 will probably be more successful than Lumia. Even though Elop has killed off commercial developers' interest in Meego consumer interest is still high.

Imagine if they did it way before that; Today MeeGo will be very different.

WP7 is a closed system like ios with many user restrictions like no micro-SD card, opaque file system, file transfer only through Zune, no bluetooth file transfer, difficult to use as mass storage for personal files, no homescreens, no widgets, no internet tethering, no wi-fi hotspot. At present the os does not support dual core and is limited to 800x480 resolution. Microsoft copied a lot from Apple but some can and some can't.

Unlike Meego the closed WP7 os does not allow developers to access many os functions and features. Apps like call recorder, changing logo on lockscreen and putting 3rd party events in notification screen cannot be done in WP7. There is no terminal mode like Meego to access system parameters. Compared to its predecessor WinMobile, WP7 is a very dumbed down system.

Those who like simple, dumbed down os go for iphone with its huge appstore. Those who like to customize go for Android. Those who like the option of being simple or powerful go for N9. I don't know which segment WP7 attracts.

i was user of wp7, and still have it, wp7 best for their tight integration with social media such facebook, twitter, linkedin, google etc. you wont even notice they are all in ur phone. the best part that i love for wp7 is the media gallery that is integrated with my facebook, it is like you have an offline photoalbum and still can see all pictures/album from your facebook.

The UI and animation is top notch, the live tiles is incredible you can see any notification and updates directly from the tiles and it is animated too. i love the group tiles, where you can see all updates incl facebook, twitter, linkedin from your group (family, officemate, etc) and you can make individual contact tile also, this is a very nice feature if you want to know all status/news/update from your favorite person such as ur gf/wife etc.. tongue.gif

but because of less functionality and the common problem of htc mozart (unresponsive screen) i have to jumpship to other phone which is i found Nokia N9 is the best phone to replace my wp7 with more functionality and simple UI.

No need to dumbdown the OS to get huge appstore, but that's what the manufacturer choose and they still success because of their name/brand, and they know that most people only care/need apps. Plus, it's like what I said before, a nobody does something is very different with a celebrity did the same thing. tongue.gif

As for WP7, their previous "strength" or what they boasted when they were revamping their OS is... Social Network Integration... which during that time, it was already done by Nokia in Maemo OS, and now MeeGo.

Live tiles? You can get the same effect using widgets in Android. The Meego notification screen is more elegant as you can see all notifications, messages, news feeds and twitter updates on one screen. It doesn't waste battery like widgets or do inane animation like tiles.

yes i know, i own htc desire too before. just live tiles is something special with animation out of the box and refined smile.gif while android you have to download third party apps which is good for modders biggrin.gif

only thing i hope for n9 is that the icon can show something like small bubble icon showing how many notification for certain apps. that would be great biggrin.gif

Added on November 29, 2011, 5:30 pmbtw, i saw there is tv out menu in the setting. how to use that?

I don't know about special animation in WP7. I think splitting a photo into a few parts and rotating the parts endlessly is idiotic but that's just my opinion. If you want special effect try playing a video on the N9 and swipe partially. You'll see the video keep playing while the background screen appears. This is true multitasking. Try that in WP7 and it will probably explode. biggrin.gif

LOL. N9 can play video in the background with Open Video Player while I do other tasks, nice for playing music videos. Stream youtube also can, with cutetube biggrin.gif . Later lah, if calmshot wants to install those non Ovi Store stuff, he/she will have lots more fun brows.gif

There are lot's more fun stuff like putting your own logo on the lockscreen, putting your contact as an app icon for fast access, blocking calls, call recorder and putting your scheduled events on the notification screen which cannot be done in WP7 because developers are not allowed to access the os. Eventually Meego will have a lot's customization to improve and add features to the os.

true man..although microsoft did give nokia 20m to advertise, but i think nokia themselve also pour in much money already :s
i just can't get it for every single lumia advertisement, they are all boasting windows os,so where's the benefit to nokia? Even if ppl get convinced with the ads,ppl are in love with the os but not nokia, they could just opt for other cheaper brand cuz the inner still the same (let's forget abt nokia drive or whatever that nokia seldom advertise and worse still,it's now hacked)

Now it's too hard (or potentially impossible) to revive these two platform anymore thx to Elop, and power of viral marketing..
Or shud i say,it's nearly impossible tht nokia to invent any new system anymore to get it successful, cuz who the heck still trust nokia wont cut off their support middle of the way? Not everyone is hardcore fans -.-

sigh.. Let's just hope that Nokia either go back with Maemo and dun freaking ever say something bad of it anymore or windows phone Apollo that's truely Nokia (as what Elop promised..)
at least give me back sd slot,fm transmitter, mass transferring,turned-off-working-alarm-clock,bluetooth transfer, usb OTG and many more symbian and meego goodies

Anyone encounter while N9 use as wifi router, but Motorola Xoom cannot find / connect to it. Computer, laptop or N8 can find / connect.
Wat is the problem?

Make sense there they make it sound like something new but its not when many other brand already have WP7 then the Lumia design is taken by the Nokia N9 further more the downgrade version of the Nokia N9. When in the market reviewers and people are complimenting is not Nokia is Microsoft.

At least with this competition nokia might join the war of better hardware
