Mates....

There are four famous hdd brand in the market, which hdd brand more reliable, performance, and long life span!

Also, the warrenty start from the date when you purchase or follow the manufacturer date? I checked at the WD website show my hdd left 1 year for warrenty, infact, the hdd i bought just exceeded a year only.

If posted or wrong post, please delete and show me the link.

Thank you!

i like my wd800jb
very quiet and fast
used 2 yrs+ no prob
except the stupid annoying "hard to make it detected" prob
i heard seagate got NCQ?maybe it will deserve a future usability----if not wrong vista can use NCQ
*
QUOTE(Ramirez @ Oct 9 2005, 11:32 AM)
currently using seagate sata , quiet n cool, 1+ years d... no problem at all  thumbup.gif
*
wow!!
you guys are so lucky!
the problem with my current hdd was....
i am using WD also, the first one i bought from the shop behind of the sri. it has S.M.A.R.T error just a year only from last year until now. i could managed to backup certain file, however some file has been corrupted.
the WD hdd counldn't last long, so i plan to buy Seagate as alternative choice then follow by Samsung.

good news is my Quantum hdd still function from five years back until now, no bad sector, S.M.A.R.T error and etc. wow, so impressive!!! used it for 5 years already, life span so long.

too bad, no more Quantum but there is Maxtor!!! shakehead.gif

I would like to know, where do i send for warrenty for my WD hdd??!!
also, is the warrenty start from the manufactred date or the date we purchase?
i check on the website it said i still have a year warrenty for the hdd which is next year, and this means the shop sell me old stock?

for warranty wise, i would support seagate.
with 5 yrs warranty n a new RMA centre, its a neat touch!
*
yah!!!...
after since Quantum closed down....
i think alternative hdd will be Seagate!!!
gotto buy one and test it out, see how long is the life span for Seagate hdd.
where is the location for sending the hdd in to Seagate?

Same here using my maxtor for 2 years and it's still ok, might have been lucky XD

Anyways, my recommended HDD, i know people are sick and tired of hearing this, but it's the WD RAPTOR LOL! Heard they migh be releasing a SATA2 followup or even a 15k RPM one. I stand here waiting laugh.gif

aloha empire23! notworthy.gif

heh heh heh!!!!
good news for that, most important things is inside the hdd!!! hope they will improve it. but at least the hdd able to last for 3 years and above.
i bought two WD hdd, and two have problem, thfirst one got S.M.A.R.T error, and another one feeling going to R.I.P or sending for warrenty. that why i bought some DVD+Rs for backking up all my preciours data! shocking.gif

now i'm using seagate sata, no problems until recently... i think re-format too many times adi so maybe spoil.. sometime for no reason auto-restart pc...  blink.gif
*
before auto restart got crack sound? if yes, maybe contain bad sector!!!!

Depends on the drives you buy, for high reliablity, i suggest using WD's RAID edition and Raptor series, for Maxtor, it seems their MAXLine is good choice and Seagate's normal drives are good too.

Try looking at the MTBF rating of a drive before buying it.
*
ic....
MTBF = for mean time between failures.
I never think of this term before purchasing hdd, OMG! haha!!!

Thanks empire23!! notworthy.gif

That's the point haha!!!
my ex-WD , 80g, 1 year old, hdd has S.M.A.R.T error, and lost some of my important data!! But manage to back up 80% of the data, better than nothing. I say 80% because come file unable to copied, data lock, and some corrupted eventhough sucessfully backup.

Hmmm, suggest you boot up in DOS and try to copy it to another HDD. Either that or doing a low level format, although personally i'd junk the HDD and get one of those sweet high reliability disks.
*
hmmm.....
dunno why this happen!!!
can't copy in the normal mode....
but i have formatted the partition....
the status said the hdd healthy... sweat.gif
i think this happen during my another hdd S.M.A.R.T error....
when that happen, i quickly buy a new hdd and copy the file in that particular hdd to new one!!

IMO, Maxtor are VERY unreliable....had one maxtor 40GB 5400rpm died on me erly dis year....warranty period was over....n another maxtor SATA died on my other computer within a year after pruchase...

apparently i am currently using a Maxtor 120GB according to my sig...hope it wont fail me anytime soon....my suggestion, u can get any other brand besides maxtor...WD proved to be pretty reliable...
*
hey you are right....
last time i use Maxtor, almost a year the bad sector say hello to me!! OMG!!

shocking.gif

haha!!!
true, there are three brand hdd in the market, WD, Seagate and Samsung...

oh yah, i got another 40g WD hdd with which i am using now, it's already used for 3 years already, and working fine...
only my newly bough from last year, 80g WD hdd, almost a years S.M.A.R.T error!...manage to backup some 85% of the files, and most of the file has been corrupted..

hrmm.... i just RMA my WD1600JS, bought it on February 05

but i still opt for WD, i already bought 3 WD (120G, 160G and 200G)

currently using WD2000JS (Sata2)
*
how come!!!!!
which show you buy!!!
the one i bought has S.M.A.R.T error, i suspect they sell old stock haha!! sweat.gif

* about the RMA, should we follow the date stated in the hdd company website or base on the date we purchase?
also, WD offer how many years warrenty, Seagate offered 5 years, what about Samsung?

QUOTE(super macgyver @ Oct 10 2005, 01:03 PM)
wat happen to ur 160GB? sudden dead?
i also WD user ler.  cry.gif  i dun want mine spoilt, i got lot hadnt backup ler.
*
hey you!!!...the DVD+R seller!!
hahaha!!!
you better spend some money to save all your data into DVD+R or other media for backup....can't depend on a single hdd, like me, once S.M.A.R.T error then i have to say bye bye data and hello new hdd!!! cry.gif
