Then, what brand has the lowest failure rate?

I have used Maxtor,Samsung and Hitachi. All of them also got HDD failure.Worst one is Samsung.

Why does all the HDD these days fail so easily?I dont torrent at all but still die.

IMO Western Digital has the lowest failure rate. I may be biased because most of my friends are using WD... And have never complained it has failed before. Over the last 3 computers i had ranging from year 2000 until now all WD HDD are still in perfect working order with S.M.A.R.T. still showing OK status. smile.gif
Oh yeah Btw, i do torrents heavily and back my data up frequently but it has been 3 years and everything is still fine.

I used 2Xseagate(pentium 1-1gb only, throw already and my current core2quad),1Xquantum(pentium 3-still using till now),1Xmaxtor(pentium 4- kena bad sector 100+ MB,formatted it to skip tht 100mb of space solved the problem) and hitachi(centrino laptop, i found it very slow). so far seagate and quantum never fails on me.but then i feel tht WD also quite good since most cybercafe around klang valley here also use them.imagine le.they got so many customers a day.and they din die easily.

off topic: i missed the old quantum days and i'm still using my old quantum katana 7200rpm till now as my secondary storage.very very reliable.

hoping to get another 320gb hdd soon. from what i've seen here, the hdds with less failure rate are seagate and WD rite? price wise WD seems to be slightly cheaper than seagate. btw, what's the diffrence between seagate non sv35 series and the sv35 ones?

I try to check with Seatools, but everything fine, no bad sector or any problem found , only the "klak klak" sound .. seriously, it's irritating .. If sent for a warranty, Seagate of course will send me a second hand hard disk even that the HDD only ages more than 1 month ..
