The red light is the proximity sensor infra red range finder working.....when you make a call it will light up....or if you test in using androsensor.

I use the advanced task killer to kill every 30 mins...stops crap like gameloft games from running.

But it's always lighted on my device, how come?

That should not be happening...have you tried restarting your phone and freezing any apps that monitor the sensor like androsensor?

The range finder can really drain the battery, that is why it only comes on in calls

Before JB, battery life good. But after JB, battery life bad. Why do you say that?
*
iOS has good battery life simply because it DOES NOT HAVE REAL MULTITASKING. JB fixes that (especially with backgrounder) and certain apps like winterboard and SBsettings (and celeste and colorkeyboard and multiflow and activator and crunchSMS and attachmentSaver and ibluever... do you need me to continue with this list?) NEED background processes to live or operate properly. Hence crap battery life after JB.

So why run those programs, you say? Well, lemme ask you back, why JB if you don't?

Right now, the ONLY things I miss from the iOS+iPhone4 combo is AirVideo, iFile, the retina reso, the camera apps and backlit sensor, the DAC and some of the games. Really.

With my hugeass Momax batt, I'm finally getting comparable to ip4 battery life nowadays (in general anyway) plus my old ip4 had a huger-ass 2000mah iWalk Chemeleon battery case semi-permanantly attached to begin with - which still made it thicker then my SGS2 now.

Anyhow, 1-2 more month to go to the great Prime vs i5 showdown, which - unless RIM gets its head out of it pompous ass and gives me my dual-core QNX HDscreened Torch 3 by this year's end - will be the ONLY fight that matters IMHO.

So by default it should not be turned on? I tried killing all apps and check into the services list, there's no androsensor, in fact i don't think i have it on my device, and it seems to me that i only have the usual services running.

Anyone having the same issue?

I don't think you are being fair to iPhone. Any phone with so many apps running in the background and if accessing WiFi/Internet/3G at the same time will consume more battery. AFAIK, all work requires energy (battery in this case).

I have an Nokia N8 and travel the road with friends using iPhone4. I think they are just as long lasting as mine.

I wonder sometimes how much battery life do people want? I've got a lot of iPhone using friends who also charge their phone everyday.... like me, going online most of the time does take the toll out of battery life.

I too can last until I'm back home later in the evening to charge it. I mean, you want it to last for 2 days before charging with heavy usage? I don't think any fella can claim that no matter what phone they are using...

unless they pump some mutant 2700mAH battery of course... tongue.gif

I'm quite contented with the SGSII's battery life. It lasts me well throughout the day without worrying about charge.

On the contrary, I think I AM being fair to it. I mean, people compare normally utilized, unJBed iP4 to the SGS2, and say it has better battery life.

Now, out of the box, unrooted Android ALREADY does things that an iPhone user would need JB and additional apps to do, so I ask you back, is THAT fair?

What I'm doing here is PRACTICALLY (I had the i4, now using the SGS2) comparing devices used under similar HEAVY USE circumstances. I run ALL THOSE THINGS to get similar functionality on the iPhone as I do on the SGS2. That's perfectly fair, isn't it?

Granted, the iP4 has a non-battery sucking display which is smaller and a single core proc, so under any circumstance, it WILL last slightly longer compared to the SGS2, but certainly not by THAT much. At least not enough to make the "iPhone 4 lasts A LOT longer then SGS2" point valid.

The iPhone also heats up, has the camera blue spot problem, yellow screen and signal issues. So no good bashing the SGS2 for its faults either.

And really, I don't HATE the iPhone. On the contrary, there are parts of it that I LOVE. The sound quality is STILL heavenly compared to the SGS2, and taking pictures in dark places is still better on an iPhone (actually, with all the fun cam apps, taking pictures is better on the iPhone, period).

I was just dispelling the battery life myth (iPhone = REALLY good batt life, Android = crap battery life) and ultimately the very notion that ONE device is completely better then another. Every device has it's faults really.

On the battery front, under heavy, fully tweaked use, the iPhone only has a 1-2 hour advantage, really. Even then, it's STILL not running fully multitasked (sleep pattern alarms cannot run by themselves, some games can't run in the background etc etc).

Apples to Oranges, really.

@DAngel: Oi, I have those "mutant" 2700mah batts, okay.

@lolz1120: I have TWO Momax Expowers actually, lol. Only need 1 to last the day though.
