As a foreigner (when you fill that W8BEN), you don't pay capital gain.
But, you still have to pay the dividends tax (approx 15%). But, you're withold approx. 28% which you can claim it before the usual tax year end for US (April 15th).

Remember:
Capital Gain = no tax for foreigner
Dividends = yes (15%).

Note the difference!

How to claims it back for the dividend tax?

You have to file the US tax form 1040NR by April 15th (for the prior calendar year)

Remember, they withhold approx. 28%, but you still have to pay 15%.
Therefore you're only claiming back 13%.

A lot of people just don't care about filing the paperwork because if the dividends aren't that much.

For example;
If you're given $10 dividends (for the entire year), US govt withhold $2.80.
You filed claim, you're getting back $1.30c. $1.50c still have to go to Uncle Sam.
What can you do with $1.30c nowadays? whistling.gif

But, it may be worth it if you're getting thousands of dollars in dividends... drool.gif

Bro, this may be a bit out of topic but do you invest in oversea properties especially US? If yes, which channel you are using to do all your purchasing and leasing?

No, not at the moment. I was thinking about it since property prices are being depressed now in US.
It is cheaper than KL Malaysia and twice cheaper than Singapore in some areas.

For big purchase like this, I would definitely have to make a trip there and use one of the real estate broker there.

This week we will know. This wedge now is going squeeze it either way.

The 50D is moving up the 200D.. so if it cross over, that means will be bullish.
But the upside move has very low volume these past few trading days.
So, be very careful going long here.

I'm planning on selling calls and puts for this option expiration week (Nov 18th).

Let the premium melt...

I never hear of 1040NR tax form but the broker only told to submit the W-8BEN form to them. How I get the 1040NR form? Who is Uncle Sam? If I filled out the form, who should I submit to?

Read everything in the instructions.
You only file this after the end of the tax year (by April 15th the following year) and you expect a refund from them.

If you're not sure about this, please consult a tax professional who knows something about US tax system and also to check if you're subject to any tax treaty.

US does not have tax treaty with Malaysia for we have not sign any FTA with them. Tax return filing can be filed as cheaply as round 50$ by engaging those Chinatown accountants in NYC. I won't file a return unless it's more than 100$.

True.. but we don't even know if rstusa is citizen of Malaysia or not. So, who knows what filing status he/she is.
So, better let that to the tax professionals.

Anyway, are you still on LVS trade?

It is still in range.. now playing 44-50 again. Quite a bit of sellers at around 47-48 area.

Yeah, the tax professionals will figure that out. I'm just hinting out that there are cheap options to file returns. However, I think most here are relatively small capital traders or investors so filing a return might even not obtain enough cost vs benefit.

I'm still playing with it. The 48ish area seem to be a very hard resistance since the beginning of the year till now.

Looks like my plan for options decay are working for LVS. As long they keep the price here (below 50, above 44-45).. those options will burn to zero by expiration.

The boy boys controlling the market aren't letting this dip nor letting this fly yet.
This flag pattern is getting tighter.

Wondering how many rounds you have gone through so far. 20? 20 means 40, because got short and long. Man! You must be making at least 5-10 folds of profit on your investment budget in recent 3 months! laugh.gif

Your apple and lvs seems to go your way, but the index seems to ride higher at this round? not sure yet though. only time can tell. tongue.gif

I lost count.. but I know I'm up quite a bit for this year. More than I made last year.

As long as the pattern stays the same between now and the breakout, I'll continue to play it.

Yes, the indexes want to break out and I think it will when the volume comes back after the US holidays (in 2 weeks time).

Upward bias for till end of the year.. just buy dips and sell the rips.
Collecting small victories .. it all adds up. tongue.gif

Unfortunately, it is going to be volatile and bumpy ride.

Hang tight.. the roads are get narrower.

It doesn't matter if it goes north or south or sideways as long you don't get
shaken off.

Remember to fasten your seat belts. biggrin.gif

This year, seems to be more violent than last year. More ZigZag road and road bumps.

Anyway, premarket here's the new macro data:

Consumer Price Index: -0.1% (Oct) vs 0.3% (Sept)

Hi All, I am new to US stock trading. I came to know Options Trading few months ago, and done virtual trading for few months. I found many good information inside this forum. :-)

I notice most of you seems to be trading stock. Does anyone trade Options here ? I am interested in options because I can participate in expansive stocks...

Btw, I would like to fund my OptionsXpress account from my Maybank2u. I remember I see a guideline here before, but I could not get it back(few hunderd pages searched). Can anyone help me to fund my OptionsXpress account ? What is "Fed Wire" ? I just afraid that my money lost somewhere during TT transfer...Appreciates if anyone can assist me..:-)
