QUOTE(danmooncake @ Nov 14 2011, 10:30 PM) As a foreigner (when you fill that W8BEN), you don't pay capital gain. How to claims it back for the dividend tax? But, you still have to pay the dividends tax (approx 15%). But, you're withold approx. 28% which you can claim it before the usual tax year end for US (April 15th). Remember: Capital Gain = no tax for foreigner Dividends = yes (15%). Note the difference! |

QUOTE(danmooncake @ Nov 15 2011, 09:58 AM) You have to file the US tax form 1040NR by April 15th (for the prior calendar year) I never hear of 1040NR tax form but the broker only told to submit the W-8BEN form to them. How I get the 1040NR form? Who is Uncle Sam? If I filled out the form, who should I submit to?Remember, they withhold approx. 28%, but you still have to pay 15%. Therefore you're only claiming back 13%. A lot of people just don't care about filing the paperwork because if the dividends aren't that much. For example; If you're given $10 dividends (for the entire year), US govt withhold $2.80. You filed claim, you're getting back $1.30c. $1.50c still have to go to Uncle Sam. What can you do with $1.30c nowadays? But, it may be worth it if you're getting thousands of dollars in dividends... |

QUOTE(zamans98 @ Mar 21 2012, 12:10 AM) nobody knows. Thanks for the suggestion! Besides BAC, any other stock consider lower price which can enter?why AAPL? Because it just shoot by 100 US$? All depends on your risk appetite and total cash in hand. Assume u got 10,000 $ in hand, u can get only 16 shares say at 600$ When Apple hit 615$, u earn 15x16 > $230 less charges etc. Once economy starts booming, banking stocks are better bet. Get Banking ETF ----> XLF or just plain banking stock like BAC BAC 10$ x 1000 = 10,000$ Up by 20Cts, you make $0.20x1000 = 200$ BAC can even move back to $15, hence $5x1000 > $5000 Added on March 20, 2012, 11:12 pm a little poor on the options volume, means hard to trade. |

QUOTE(zamans98 @ Mar 21 2012, 11:18 PM) damn normal. its not a correction if just down by ~50 points. Is it blue chip company suitable for long term investment?CORRECTION is a major 3 digits plunge, continuously or in the similar pattern. Added on March 21, 2012, 10:19 pm Micron, ie MU. Low debt.
