Not quite matte, yet not really glossy either. Rubbery, I guess, and while you can leave finger trails on them, it's actually quite hard to leave actual finger prints.

Even in the iPhone section these people get quick free vacations the moment they ask about Jack Sparrow.

GPS software is only as good as the map. Meaning the map is most important. Here in malaysia for android papago have the most update from MFM.

hmm is garmin using the same map as papago?

But really, Papago has such a crappy UI that I myself use Sygic most of the time, unless I'm in some ulu place not on the Sygic map.

If I'm using the SGS2 for nav duties at all lah. I have an old half-broken N86 I ONLY use for Garmin XT anyway, considering NONE of the nav apps on Android (or iOS for that matter) has proper support for speedtrap POIs.

@DestEX: diff map types, but MFM develops for both.

I have been using XXKG3 modem in all the subsequent roms I have tested and use. The main reason why I use this is because unlike the newer modem version, when phone is idle long time , even with my 3G always on 24/7, many times I have to disable 3G packet data and than enable it again to get it working. I found KH3 not so good as I have been experiencing continuous disconnection many times a day. It shows connected but the internet access just fail. So I have to disable/enable it - quite leceh n frustrating
Some user mentioned is due to Juice Defender ( maybe ) but I don't have this issue using JD on XXKG3

You are making a right choice of picking SGSII as your first android smartphone as it is one of the most easiest phone to handle, use, update or upgrade.

Basically I just need tips and tricks on how to get started without having to go read through the whole Forum post.
My questions are simple:
1) What are essential/important apps i need for my phone?
2) I'm quite confused bout rooting. Seems like there's alot of different "roots". Which is the best for me now?

For rooting and flashing custom roms, i'm afraid you have to read and know what you're doing. And it's also good to know why you doing it.
There's nothing wrong with rooting/flashing but i advice you familiarise with your phone first. Try to know each of every apps that comes with your phone. That way you'll know what app doing what, either that app is important for your daily use or not. Later on you can freeze (by rooting ) or uninstall any unwanted apps from your phone without distrupt your daily usage or the phone system itself :-)

All these rooting or flashing thingy sounds really cool but i still have no idea about it. I will read up on it. *wish there was a shorter says-it-all article available* :S
