The stock kernels are to be used to restore the kernel version after rooting and are not needed for updating the firmware.
You do not need to root or unroot the device to update the firmware.

Please ensure that KIES is closed and not running in the system tray! Kies doesn't like Odin, it's like the big brother who's always jealous that his little brother is getting to flash all the phones so he starts to flash block.

my sgs2 temperature will reach 53 degree, when I surf net n charge the battery together..scary.
*
You are already listed at no 602
If charging through AC - temperature should be in the 40's ; most of the time is just slight below 40
Surfing, even continuously up to 2 hours - average temperature 35-42 ( higher on 3G, lower on wifi )
Yours is abnormally high

QUOTE(unemployed @ Sep 2 2011, 11:28 PM)
so tats means rooting , flashing Rom doesnt need external micro SD right, the tool will able to explore/browse the internal memory storage as what i see the MyFile= /sdcard right? i had just need to push everything to this internal storage /sdcard dir?
*
NO need . But is good to invest in a external micro SD card . You can store all your big files eg audio/videos. Some apps , eg Titanium Backup you can set its backup to the external card. You can also keep a extra copy of your nandroid backup on your external card as a safe copy in case your internal SD card corrupted/or accidentally formatted

Better check it . I have used mine 4 months even as wireless hotspot max is 48. Once a while 50. Very rare above 50. Most of time 35-45 average
charging usually below 40

How do I backup my phone IMEI in case it gets missing, gets corrupted during flash process ? And how do I restore it

Check to see if your IMEI number is still intact by dialling *#06#
efs doesn't get backed up or restored by nandroid

This is a quick summary based on the XDA discussion

Why the /efs folder?
This is a very sensitive system folder that contains Phone-specific information such as the IMEI (encrypted in the nv_data.bin), wireless devices MAC addresses, product code (also in the nv_data.bin), and much more. Often users trying to change product codes or trying to unlock the mobile will end up corrupting data in this location.

Why back it up?
Well, let’s resume it saying that backing-up this little folder will keep you away from Samsung service centres.

Easiest : Use HellCatDroid tool - just download and install kTool.apk file. Launch the app and select your choice : http://f.lui.li/get_99_f13d.html

Through TERMINAL commands
What you will need:
Rooted SGS II to get permissions as a SU (Super User) and perform the backup
Terminal Emulator by Jack Palevich (available from the market) <-Terminal Emulator or use ADB which is included in the SDK Development Tools

The standard prompt of terminal (adb) is a $ sign. Once you enter “SU” it will become a # Sign.

***NOTE: Make sure to keep an eye on the screen of your SGS II during this process, because it may request SU permissions [currently doesn't on CF-root]; else, you will get an error (just if it’s the first time). In Terminal Emulator you will need to reset the app after granting permissions cause it usually freezes***

*Remember: to use ADB you need to enable USB DEBUGGING under Applications/Development in your SGS II.

su
mkdir /sdcard/efs
busybox tar zcvf /sdcard/efs/efs-backup.tar.gz /efs
cat /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 > /sdcard/efs/efs_dev-block-mmcblk0p1.img

Close terminal emulator, then transfer to your pc.

RESTORING : Restoring efs backup (It helped when the phone is not working and imei is blank):
put your efs-backup.tar.gz in sdcard then in adb shell

su
umount /efs
mke2fs /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
mount -w -t ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 /efs
busybox tar zxvf /sdcard/efs-backup.tar.gz -C /

Any good flip cases for SGSII?

Seems that there's no real recommendations for the cover accessories available, and it's more a mixed bag of what you prefer.
*
Google for XENUS, ARGOS - these are top quality genuine leather cases from Korea . Some guys selling it in garage sales mobilephone ( just search SGS II cases ) or you can buy from ebay. Average price RM 120-140

Example , mine I bought online for US$ 44: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?V...em=150605091894
Same/similar item also in garage sales lowyat

Dear members, in order to install Papago ,we need micro sd card in phone is it?

What is the most suitable class of memory card for s II?

Thank you.
*
No need. Install everything in internal sd card
If you wish to buy external micro sd get at least class 4. Class 6 is ideal but hard to find now. I am using class 10

Read the thread at XDA - take note all the stuffs not working/or poorly working , is clear;y listed in first post: if you can accept these go ahead
It is a very fast, stable rom. It has na very iPhone-like user interface - you hate it or you love it.

You mean you did not see the files PDA, Phone etc etc

Or you got a tar file only : if so, just select the tar file as PDA in Odin

Just extract the file to TAR format level and do not over extract it

alright, there are 2 version, one is bamrk version, another one is galnet version, which one recommended?
*
The galnet version is more of a themed and revised UI version of the bmark version with added TouchWiz . You can checkup galnet website ( is in his thread ) to see the differences
I'd suggest you start with bmark than move on to galnet and see which meets your taste. Galnet is more user friendly

Launch of the SGS II in New York on 30/Aug. The event showcased the Galaxy S II versions on Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile.
And we were all complaining why Malaysia was so slow !!!

I read on the web , apparently the latest Samsung releases Note 5.3 and Tab 7.7 will NOT even be available for sale in USA or no plans yet for USA market
