I think, like MMS, it needs data to be on to operate. Reason being, unlike other OSes, Android seems to shut down the video streaming AND MMS data connections WITH packet data when you turn data off.

It's like all connections using data in any way is considered "data" overall in Android (for some reason, maybe because of the fact that Android came from the US where they have complex data tiers from each carrier to consider) while for us, only packet data is really considered "data".

IINM anyway. Like iOS, Android is quite carrier centric.

I have this problem where any compass app I download from the Market runs fine, then still continues running even after I force the task to exit.

When I run the app next, it still has a lock, and my battery life is unbelievably bad, like 2 hour max when using, and 45 mins when gaming.

I don't have a SIM card in it and it is flight mode, and screen on min brightness, and all connectivity off...can anyone help me out with the compass app running non-stop even after stopping it?

What app is that? How are you checking that it is still running?

Why don't you just uninstall it if it's giving you such a problem.

Could you name the compass app that keep on running eventhough after you stopping it. I want to download it and see how it fares in my phone
p/s - IMHO your phone or battery probably got problem/ malfunction as no app whatsoever can drain your battery within 45 minutes

Oh. And if anyone of you are wondering about skins (stuff like Incredible Shield), I have both the exceedingly cheap Gadgetshieldz and Best Skins Ever. My take on both:

BSE:
- Good coverage (no home button/camera module skin) and good cutouts (back speaker cutout not 100% spot on.
- Very little orange peel.
- Great service and really fast shipping.
- Slightly thicker and harder to apply (but should provide more protection).
- Less saperate parts.
- Reasonable price + shipping (about RM50-60)
- Very clear 24 hours after installation (better as a SP).

GadgetShieldz:
- Superb coverage (camera module and home button skins included) and superb cutouts.
- Some orange peel
- Slow shipping and so-so service (maybe I got unlucky).
- Cheap like no tomorrow (RM30 ish for a complete protector set with free, but slow, shipping).
- Slightly thinner and easier to apply.
- More saperate parts.
- Not as clear as BSE after 24 hours.

Both come as skin only and needs a wet application using water + some dish soap (with device off).

Also, the screen protector of both is not on the same league as SGP in terms of feel and clarity, although they might protect better as they're thicker.

But I already have my Glas + Optics combo anyway.

So verdict? Just get both lol, especially because GS is so cheap.

But if you MUST have ONLY one and already have a good SP (and can stand the snail pace shipping) get the Gadgetshieldz simply because you can buy 2 for the price of 1 BSE (and almost 4 for the price of one bloody Incredible Shield, which isn't even that good to begin with).

If you DON'T have a good SP already, consider the BSE as it's slightly clearer after drying out.

The app is called 'compass' from touch.com. Just search for compass in the market, it is the first one with the blue open compass.

I ended the app thru the task manager....and when i checked on it under battery usage, the percentage was increasing...and then i clicked on it and clicked force close, then my battery life was margnally better,

The next day, I checked and found it was still running.

I have a feeling it could be my battery which is crappy, cos even surfing drains it very quickly. Can I send it to samsung to be replaced?

Use original paid version. Where did you download it. There are just too many papago x5 crack versions on the web and most are unreliable
It is now only rm99 vs rm149 previously
Check page 1 under apps for purchase link

Those are the original system apps of the previous backup rom. Some people want easy way and select restore all and what happen their new rom overwritten by old rom files. Stay away from these red items. I mentioned in the last thread TO ONLY do selective restoration eg restore your mail n sms contacts etc data but select daa only not apps or your new rom apps will could be overwritten

Did you mean 'compass' by catch.com.? I've that app since more than two months ago. I found there's nothing wrong with it. Yes it take some juice as it use GPS for tracking address etc but the app closed when i close it. Only thing is you have to disable your GPS manually after closing the app.
But for draining your battery within 2 hours and somemore within 45 minutes while gaming is too high. Better bring your phone to service centre for checkup as i don't think it cause by the 'compass' app.
OR you could uninstall the app and see if there are any improvement in your battery drain problem before you went for checkup.
