Understood. For me, my objectives as stated are clear ie. improve my income while maintaining or improving my quality of life. If sacrifices are to either my income or quality of life then I'm not willing to make that trade off.

Well, migration is not for everyone.
If you're a boss, owning big company and earning big bucks. No point for you to come here.
My friend who owns company back home all thinking of migrate here. I analyse for them and advise them not to come or they'll regret. *UNLESS* they really thinking of retire and got cash to burn.
They're not young either...ard 50+

Young professions still hv opportunities here but just depends on individual. I'm glad i'm still in my job profession under building company not doing 'odd' job. smile.gif

I thought OnG should have pretty good work life balance. I know the guys in my company work a roster of 3 on 4 off 3 on 5 off.

At least u have a job.
Do you get adequately compensated, as opposed to $25 p/hour, go to work and leave on the dot wage slaves?

Project and operations very different. I'm project side so we do fast and furious everyday.

With Gorgon being behind schedule they're pushing hard for results. Most of us are already pulling 12 to 14 hours a day.

27/8 roster plus throwing in the redeye flight it's more like 28/7. We build it then fark off and move onto the next project.

Adequately compensated is debatable considering everything. Sure 100 an hour looks nice but I think it isn't much considering what I have to give up.

Also there's a chance I might get nightshift.

Hey guys, I have a question about overseas working experience points required for Aussie skilled migration.

My situation:

a) I studied quantity surveying, and I had been working as a full time Trainee QS and QS (The exact name of my positions) for one year after I graduated.
b) After that, I have been working as a Contracts Executive (the name of my current position) for more than 2 years now.

My question:
Thus, am I able to claim full 3 years of overseas working experience in quantity surveying? ......This is because I am afraid that because of the name of my current job position -"Contracts Executive" which does not SOUND related to quantity surveying, even though in Malaysia it is quite common to use Contracts Executive position name in place of QS.

Thanks and hope to hear from you guys. icon_question.gif

I'm a quantity surveyor back home.
Trainee experience doesn't count. Starts at employment status. I claimed 15points for more than 8 years exp.
It doesn't matter what's the job title is, as long it's related to your scope of work and relevant to the title, you'll get a letter from AIQS stated your experience is eligible or positive.

Please note:

Overseas (Malaysia) - 3 years = 5p; 5 years = 10p; 8 years - 15p
Local (Aus) - 1 year = 5p; 3 years = 10pt; 5 years = 15p

Well, actually, that "Trainee QS" job title was actually a full-time graduate position. It's just that the company has decided to use the job title for those fresh graduates.

Hi guys, came across that I need to apply for AFP National Police Clearance. My given name is e.g. Ying Lai (just like any other chinese names with a space) and the system does not accept that as it only accepts one word in the given name. Have you guys encountered similar experiences and do you have any advice on that? Should I only include the first word of my given name (Ying) or join them altogether (Ying-Lai or YingLai).

Oh tricky. Not sure, as my agent did mine for me. My surname is two words as well. Seemed to work, but I'm not sure how they did it. Maybe you can contact them (AFP) to ask how it was done

Hi, can anyone please suggest what working visa is suitable for me? I initially enrolled as a master by coursework degree which is 2 years but i did a course transfer to graduate diploma at the end of the visa. This means that I'm not entitled for the temporary graduate work visa anymore as I did not qualify for the 2 years master study even though I did but after course transfer, my credit point did not fulfill the 92 weeks requirement. Therefore, if a company are willing to sponsor me a visa, what visa is available for me? Particularly in food technologist or product development. I considered the skilled sponsored visa before but unfortunately I'm a fresh graduate and don't have any experience before so I'm automatically out of this visa. So any ideas what working visa can the company sponsor me? thanks.

Thanks for your reply smile.gif .Have looked through the website, it seems like they only entertain queries after application is being made. Was wondering if you could recall how was your name displayed in the Australian Police Certificate, probably I could get rough idea from there.
