I think in general, it is not too good since cancellation of Browse.

Turn out in the paper, Woodside is going offshore now due to high tax. China O&G company are pretty calculative on the tax. Thanks to Julia!

At 1st it doesn't concern me either when i was in KL last month. When you're here, damn, it's really a deep shit coz it's gonna affect your living.
You're right, many people seems not even want to vote Liberal either. When i'm here, i do feel their political heat. They have no choice, either A or B.
Ozzie seems hopefully someone else here.

There's no point trying to split the vote. In Australia, unlike back home, preferential voting system is practiced. You rank the candidates and let's say there are 5 candidates running for an electorate in the house of representatives and there's no simple majority, the candidate with the lowest votes gets eliminated, and the votes gets transferred to the next person they voted.... they do it until they get a simple majority

Browse LNG is one of the project in Woodside Petroleum which cost billions. They postponed it because its not viable anymore onshore so they are looking into FLNG (Floating LNG) but having said that they are still creating work opportunities for the local. Oil and Gas is still doing very good compared to the mining industry.

As far as I recall the intake rate of graduates are quite good for oil and gas companies, around 70+ each.

I heard Australia found some big oil discovery off the western coast. One of my friend who work for Shell, got posted there.

So now it is not viable?

Discovery is one thing compared to actually developing it as the cost is too damn high compared to the FLNG. If you looked at how the budget blown out for Pluto LNG went, extra $3 billion as compared to when it initiated, the project lost its initial value.

But we will see how the economy goes anyway after the election.

Yeah, even heard that SA found oil reserve site. I don't think they gonna drill it down for the time being.
Industry just seems so quiet and everyone is waiting for the durian to fall.

Hi Nemesis,

I read that your wife is a chartered accountant. What qualification did she do? I'm currently doing ACCA but planning to apply for PR next year. Do you think it's enough to have just this qualification or one has to study CPA Australia in order to improve chances of getting a job in an accounting role in Australia?

This question is to anyone who can advice me:

Which is advisable and better ? Do i start my PR application process by going directly to Australian Embassy here in KL? How much roughly would it cost getting a PR this way?

or

Must i go through an agent to do this work for me? If so, anyone can suggest an agent whom i can go to and who would be trustworthy and reliable in helping me to apply for a PR? How much roughly would it cost - the whole process of getting a PR via Agent ?

Thank you.

you don't have to go australian embassy for PR. everything can be done online

i heard the price will increase on 1 september so the PR fee will cost you $3xxx + medical $3xx(not sure in malaysia) + ielts $330 + skill assessment $300+ + others with small amounts. I would say you need at least RM13-15k to get PR

My suggestion is that u must complete a degree or ACCA cert. Once u hv either 1, u need to get CPA to verify your working experience and recognition of your certificate. Getting a job for accountant is a big challenge now coz my friend has been jobless for 11 mths now. Accountant now is surplus. Not like 5-10 years ago that accountant live like a king here.
As hihihehe said, u can apply online urself. Not necessarily go thru agents unless u got no time to do it.
Cost estimate like should be around RM 25k will be more than enough:-

Application cost = AUD3500 (not sure now, should be additional of 15% more by now)
Agent fees = AUD3000 (around this amount)
Medical = RM 250 (per pax)
Police clearance = RM 30
Cert. recogition body = AUD 200 (mine cost this much, i dunno CPA)

other miscellenous maybe another 10% for translation or something else.
Please make sure u got some $$ to burn coz unemploy for 3-6mths is normal. 6-12 mths bit unusual. 12mths+ means u've to think to change ur profession.
If u really can't found a job, get a course and get a cert. for yourself.
Always ask urself wat u want before u come coz i do encounter some malaysian here who's not suitable to migrate.
They think they'll earn big cash money or become a rich group which it won't happen here. If u're looking for laid back, more time to family and quality time of ur life, this may be something u're looking for.
If u're looking for high end job with superpay, sorry, 3rd world country may offer higher pay for expat but not here.
Tax is high and be prepare to get tax!

Thanks Guys for the advice.

I want to migrate because i really want to start somewhere new where everything is based on meritocracy and fairness. Even if i have to start from the bottom and work hard to improve myself, i just don't mind as long as there are no bias and unfair treatment.

Furthermore i like quality of life and time with my family. Being a single parent I believe i will have better opportunities abroad and also give a better opportunity for my child to grow, study and work in a better environment.

I don't mind paying higher taxes if we can expect something better in return because of good governance.

Would it be wrong for migrating for these reasons?

The reasons you mentioned are exactly the reasons why people are migrating. Go for it. I myself am migrating permanently to Melbourne in Feb 2014.

Absolutely not!
We're in the same boat looking for better future for the kids. If you're single parent, you will be hard your life to taking care of kids. However, no worries. If your skill is required here, you find a stable job. Nothing to worry anyway.
The biggest hurdle is not getting a visa. It's the job to keep you sustaining.
Always go for it and whether get a job or not, talk later. Get urself a visa then only look for job.
U never know wat lies ahead until u try it.
I hope any forumers here please don't push anyone away from trying to look opportunities to migrate.
