I thought I answered that ... there are good and bad public school, in most cases, the good ones are surrounded by houses with really high prices. Do more research and choose carefully. And also, prepare earlier, start registering once they are eligible. If your child is already 4 or 5 years old, be prepared to be at the back of a very long waiting list.

Perth might be different though....

Sorry, coz i can't retrace your reply on this.
Well, thanks for your advise. Seems my daughter will be turning 5 next year and would try to squeeze her into the public school which has good reputation.
Oh boy, i tot this issue only exist in malaysia, but now we're facing the same here

No worries, just have similar worst case scenario expectation as you would in Malaysia for everything. You will be fine.

Another option is to sacrifice yourself and expand your search parameter, look for places 1 hour away from your work place biggrin.gif ... very common in Sydney as I can count with more then 1 hand of people who stays at least 1.5 hour away from work, some 2 hours even. That is Sydney for you, Perth probably won't be as bad.

so you already got your PR?

im thinking of going thru the process myself i.e applying thru online and see how it goes. if im short listed good if not im ok. i feel that its a bit expensive to go thru an agent if its the same thing.

i have a fren working at melbourne and he commented the living expenses is very high even in the sub urbs. child day care cost about 200 aussie dollar per day. how would perth be in comparison? would it be sufficient for only one parent to work and support the family financially?
*
Yes, i've got my PR.
Well, i did some research and based on my friend situation.
So far, the info i have is daycare cost around AUD75 (the cheapest i can get), others might cost up to AUD200/day. If your wife is working then you have to make sure her income is enough to cover. If not, no point to send kids to daycare. DIY
Living cost in melb & syd is pretty high. Accommodation is damn high.
In perth. housing is the main concern. You can get a bungalow with 4+2+2 at AUD400k which depends on location. If you're earning 80k for a family of 4, you have to pay more attention in every cents you spend otherwise makan rumput...

Think for long run, if you're looking at melb & syd, probably you'll be buying townhouse or apartment. If you're aiming for bigger house, think perth, brissie, adelaide, darwin & tasmania??? It's cheaper a little....seems whole australia is on a property boom.
Compare to KL, buying a bungalow it's more than RM2mil which is AUD 700k blink.gif

Perth is the same. People still spend 1 hour on public transport to get to work in downtown. But the good thing is you can leave on time!
In KL, i've being really tired on this. Work like a cow pay in peanuts....damn! rclxub.gif

Again, don't take this as a given..... Australia are one supposedly one of the western country with the longest working hour...

I do receive emails during weekend and in the middle of the night and many ppl work till 8-9 every day too... Not as common as Malaysia, but it is not as rare as you think.

Well, i always received emails 2am everyday about work.... sad.gif
For me, if working long hours with paying OT, no complain at all. If working OT without pay, it's a story that i'm facing now.

The figure I have with me is slightly different. Most of the people I know working in Perth CBD take approx. half an hour to work by public transport. Some local Australian will consider 10 km away from CBD as far.

Regarding the day care, the price is roughly between $70 - $110/day. The good one gets filled out pretty quick. It is good for you to have a look in a few and do the comparison. Staff to baby ratio is approx: 1 to 4. Most of the people who sent their baby to day care told me that it is a lot easier for the baby to get sick (you can check with your friend on this).

Depends on your profession, you sometimes work crazy hours.

I've done 80 hours week, and sometimes I have to work until 8 or 9.

The upside is most large companies would allow you to take a taxi home, and if you're found to work long hours, you can take some time in lieu off.

Nonetheless, it's not all rosy 9-5pm. The hours are comparatively longer than UK.

The info i get is majority my friends who stayed south perth further down to canning area. Yeah, they took approximate an hour to reach office. I would prefer to stay in 10km radius but the rental is killing.
You're right on daycare. My daughter was once sent to daycare until she attending kindy. She's like will get sick twice a month averagely. At 1st i don't understand wat's the reason until the doctor told me that some kids transmitting bacteria or virus (ex. cough, flu or hand, mouth disease)
Well, all we parents can do is to make sure they stay healthy at all cost by giving the best. sweat.gif

+1

Like my company, have to follow every bits of laws. Must pay for OT, Cabcharge(taxi on company) if you work longer than usual, time in lieu and sometime lunch allowance. I like to work extra shift on weekends like Saturday where I will get 1.5x of pay rate for first 3 hours and 2x after that. I want to leave but is hard to find other company with almost the same benefit(too comfortable). You can even get corporate deal when buying car if your company is in their list. I looked at Mercedes and with corporate deal, I can get discounted drive away price and free 3 years warranty + 4 years road assist but first have to settle my visa first sad.gif

I know of someone who has ACCA qualification and is currently working in Australia. As long as you have the experience they are after, don't think it matters *that much* if you have CA/ CPA or ACCA.

If your car isn't under warranty anymore, just DIY with a service manual. Very easy and save hundreds.
