Err have prob here..my PS2 slim cannot on..just bought it at sungei wang plaza on june this year and the prob come on september..but that time i was bz so just keep it first. Then last week i have sent it to a shop arround my area for repair but they said not worth to repair coz it will be expensive. Maybe rm500 like that..i dont remember what is it..sumthing like chip or what..and they said my ps2 is a recond set, external looks new but inside is the old one...err what shud i do? go back to shop that i bought it or what? gosh i dont want to buy a new set..futhermore it still new..

I have some problems with my PS2 and I hope you guys can help me out a little here..

Problem 1) Can't read DVD5 and 9 discs.. Is there a problem with the modchip or the lens?

Problem 2) Can't load the disc without resetting the console.. For example I can't use Codebreaker and Gameshark because they require the change of discs when the console is still powered on..

The console's model is 30006R.. Bought it 4 years ago.. I suspect the problem lies within the modchip...

As far as i know, if u buy at sungei wang shop,they will give 3 month or so only..unless u buy from sony malaysia..

by the way, whut shud i do?

for your info some modchip you need to press reset button for few sec to play dvd movie try this method
1) insert dvd movie
2) hold reset button few sec till ps2 shutdown / reset button turn to red
3)after it's shutdown press again for few sec
4)release reset button
this method work on my ps2 it's depend what chip you using
i don't now what modchip that been installed to your ps2 but you can try this method.
if dvd game sorry to say maybe your lens dies
try this test
1) try play dvd movies (yes/no)
2) try play audio cd (yes/no)
3) try play dvd9 games (exp gt4) (yes/no)
4) try play cd games (tekken tag) (yes/no)
3) try play dvd5 games (yes/no)
post the result ok?

btw do you know what modchip installed on your ps2? because b4 i change my modchip to crystal chip ,i'm using blue chip very old i don't have any problem using game shark ,armax & codbreaker .

I don't know what modchip is installed in my ps2.. I'm not an expect in this field..

From the above results, I can assume that your dvd diode lens is dying out since you said you can run dvd9 movie for a few seconds. You can either tuning the lens or just get it replace.

huhu.. sg wang really cut throat.. only a few months already broken.. somemore warranty only 3 month.. huhu.. most shops even modded ps2's gives 1 year warranty..

do ps2 support 5.1 channel speaker? thinking to pair up my ps2 with my edifier S4.1..

and, anyone have tried comparing picture quality btw s-vid and composite(RGB) for ps2?

By the way, just asked the shop that i bought it today, the salesperson told me to bring back the ps2 to be check by their technian..

my ps2 is scph 70006 and using matrix infinity 1.38 mod chip, i've tried to off the MACROVISION FIX, and after i did that, my ps2 can load any pirated disc, it's always have the error message "please insert playstation or playstation 2 disc"....i've tried to turn the MACROVISION FIX back on but it doesn't help... :"-(

i would like to buy a ps2...not for me but for my cousing living in perak...
been scowering today at sg wang about price for the full set...
but, one thing added to my curiousity...
some shop said need to buy ps2 fan, is dont buy then can only play up to 1 hr only...
some say no need to buy ps2 fan, as can play up to max 5 hrs...
djinn gave different answer regarding this matter but his shop can only get stock on friday at 4.00 pm...
need to get this b4 friday as cousin going back kampung friday morning...
