You do not need to root or unroot the device to update the firmware.

Please ensure that KIES is closed and not running in the system tray! Kies doesn't like Odin, it's like the big brother who's always jealous that his little brother is getting to flash all the phones so he starts to flash block.

I fully agree with waveweaver posting # 2635 on v11 on the "bluish" tint of the phone., It is definitely NORMAL
Personally i LOVE the slight bluish tint. It makes the phone display more beautiful. I'd say users should be more concerned if you seea yellowish tint and thai is abnormal. A whitish display - OMG , you like it, accept it but it is deem defective !!

As in any new thread, again I will see many repeated questions on ROOTING by new users

Just as a quick summary on rooting before you ask:

1. Rooting will not spoil your phone. Only an idiot /dumb guy will spoil it by rooting. The chance you spoil it is 1 in a million
2. Rooting means warranty void
3. Rooting will not delete/clean any data - it remains intact
4. If you just want to root ONLY:
- Easiest use Supercurio 3
5. If you want root plus clockworkmod recovery: - easiest use Odin flash Chainfire CF Root v4
6. If you want ROOT, Clockwork recovery plus test anew rom WITHOUT wiping your phone: Flash Litening v4.0 and below
7. You can unroot by using SuperoneClick or flashing official stock rom

All these guides are in page 1 post #5

kokokranc : Your failure in " adb shell" is most probably due to corrupted files on the PC. I have experienced this before. Just try reinstall your ADB using Google SDK or reinstall Samsung USB phone drivers

QUOTE(Fallenangelz @ Aug 20 2011, 09:49 AM)
hmm, anyone discovered that our first page faq and to knows are becoming longer and longer? hopefully those funny questions wont be brought up so frequent like the previous thread doh.gif
*
Yes ; it will be. But sad to say, many new users seldom refer by just looking at the questions posed. Just look at past 2 pages in last thread, many of the questions are answered in FAQ 1 and 2
I have also put in another new post Part 2 on rom flashing ; will reorganized this. The original post does not allow me to post any newer entries and I much material to post. Hope with Part 2 updated, we will see less questions on rooting, kernels, rom flashing

Congrats.
Just read page 1 posts #3,4,5 will raise your knowledge level from zero to at least 8/10. It will answer most of your questions but definitely not all. Don't see what you need to know, post here. I am sure one of any other users could have the answer
You don't need to be a long time user to know/understand your phone features.

Hi, a Korean friend asked if I want to get the SGS2 from Korea. He'll be coming to Msia next month.

Anything particular I should know if I to get it from Korea? Korea also uses our GSM system, right?

Thanks for your feedback

As long phone is from SK Telecom , should be OK as use similar GSM system as here. Others , not too sure as most of it will not unless some changes made recently.

I don't think I need to give further explanation on this matter as there is expert who copied explanation from the net without quoting any reference.
Technology is one matter but... Let's your eyes be the judge on this. Spam me with more lectures all you want but I won't response it as this is waste of time.

P/S:
Brightness has been set to max for comparison. These pictures are taken with another SGS2.  whistling.gif
Both phones has no SP either.

Actually what is your problem
If you are really talking using this test, than the white screen is normal not the bluish
If you are viewing the screen normally when in use, it will have bluish tint with it not whitish

GUYS
HERE'S THE VIDEO OF MY GALAXY S2'S PROBLEMS

Samsung Galaxy S2 3G Problems
*
1. Set the Network mode to AUTO
2. Is your DIGI APN correct - default is diginet ; if you are using those internet package is 3gdgnet
3. Did you try change simcard ? One time, I have such issues with celcom simcard - erratic inconsistent performance of locking onto internet. Adfter I change simcard was OK

If still same issues, ask for replacement

I am a very happy DIGI user unlike some users here. Now all my smartphones plus all my family members on Digi. I rarely faced those signal issues mentioned by some users. Most import while on the road/highway it never fail me, worst was Maxis which I will never touch it again. Celcom is equally good but I last switch one of my Celcom line as I find while testing with Digi on other phones equally good and Digi with smartplan is cheaper and I need not pay the compulsory RM50 every month for calls/SMS on the postpaid Celcom line

One of the user has PM me this message. I have asked him/her to post it but he/she hasn't, probably worried will kena flame ; but I do agree with him/her
Basic phone functions must work well with stock rom. You don't go and flash cook roms to solve it. Basic functions refer to:
- call , SMS, MMS
- 3G/Edge connectivity to internet
- camera , must work well with all features builtin
- touch screen responsiveness , must be super smooth and does not lag on stock rom without 3rd party installs. 3rd party install ( esp those cracked/warez ) will at times affect screen sensitivity and responsiveness
- bluetooth connectivity
- WiFi connectivity ( test with other wifi spots if you have issue with certain WiFi spots)
- GPS should be fast and quick; mine consistently and without fail wherever I go, connects within seconds ( not more than 5 secs ) - Papago X5, Google maps, Sygic Aura. My car is factory default light tint so tinting factors does not affect me. Having 3G data enabled helps alot for quick/immediate lockup. I always has immediate, max 2 secs lockup using Sygic Aura

Here goes, I quote his/her PM to me : QUOTE -

Uncle Benny,
Sorry if my PM arrival disturb you but i feel i need to give my opinion/suggestion about thing that lately i find quite disturbing.
I've noted some of our members are very quick in pointing/suggesting flashing custom rom for every problems when other members (in stock rom) stating their problem in the forum and looking for answer/advice.
I know that some problems can be eliminated when we flashing custom rom (exp : pink spot in camera). But for some other problems, i think it should be handle within the stock rom itself without need to flash custom rom (exp : phone rebooting itself, freezing, force close, screen defect, network connection, overheating etc..)
What i'm trying to say is, aren't we suppose to advice/helping other members finding the root/cause of the problem while it's still in the stock rom rather than suggest flashing custom roms to eliminate the problem. (exp : find and uninstall roque app, test whether photos, videos, songs, files or the sd card itself corrupted that make the phone lag or freeze INSTEAD OF flash custom rom because it can make your phone faster.!!
I find this type of advice is misleading and who knows it can worsen the phone condition in long term.

Btw, I checked Celcom's SGS2 firmware just now on their demo set at Galaxy Tab 10.1 launch event and found that it's pre-loaded with DXKG4 firmware. There's Chinese language display option for the menu. Has Samsung already update Malaysia sets?

My Galaxy Tab 10.1 ( Singapore set ) by default, has several Chinese options available in Settings/Languages
