So conclusion DIY wheels are better than commercial ones /facepalm

My Nephtie is still not active yet (stays in her box all day and only comes out to eat and drink and poop) so i think I'll just bring her to the park every evening to exercise when she starts being active...

get her to the park regardless imo, to get her immune system up and running by exposing her to the many wonderful variants of germs tongue.gif

ddr> no idea, mine just pee and poo everywhere, recently even in the places she sleeps =3=

Telileti> ouch, maybe try wearing a in house slipper D: oh and the wheel you mentioned, is it as big as the wodent wheel?

olivur>I did, but she hardly moves a step from where i put her down. she juz.. sits there... I have to crouch near her for her to move a few steps around and here i thought i can sit on the bench and watch her run around the greens XD

-----------------------------------------------

Saw that quite a few of my mealworms died, worried that its the plague, apparently its coz of lack of water... coz when i put a wet cotton pad in... this happened in a matter of seconds

blush.gif True. I probably shouldn't handle them on the carpet since the quills stick right up on those fabric.

xD I should go buy those bunny house slippers.
Hmm, it's big enough for a hedgehog?
I wouldn't recommend using wodent wheels as well since it makes it difficult for hedgies to exit once they're done running.
I don't see an issue with using a silent spinner (rip-off) since I've never had a case where the hedgie's nails got caught betwen the slit.
If you can DIY, definitely do so.
If you're too lazy like me, buy the RM85.80 one. xD

I wish I had 'greens' for my hedgies to run about. The nearest 'green' that I have is a large field that's overgrown and unused, which makes me rather hesitant in bringing them there since they could all run in different directions. rclxub.gif

Well yeah.. I am kinda lazy XD Well lemme know when you're free to come over to pyramid or somewhere near there. I don't know if Nepthie is ready for the wheel but just in case it goes out of stock or something /:

I wanna see Nephtie run too ;_; i'm worried that she has lack of exercise and might become obese or something D:

try putting some vege for them. they don't eat rice. you can give them bread and oat.

the cotton might be too humid.

good luck!! rclxms.gif

devilene - try oats and carrots for the worms. does the trick for me. and just get the wheel that telileti and i myself got for our hogs :P they're half the price of a wodent wheel and i could personally vouch that wodent wheels are hell to wash.

No, I've checked out the largest wodent wheel and the hole for the hedgie to enter through look like a tight squeeze for my fat, little hedgies. blush.gif

Plus, hedgie forums state that they're not recommended so I didn't buy one.

squeezing through isn't really an issue (imho) since they do love tight spots in general but the whole look out and SMACK on the nose is a no no for me

Ken.B and Olivur> I've switched to oats, now i just need to get vege (always eat out so don't have vege at home, sucks too be a student D:) I tried banana previously... but the ants in my room went wild.... (another reason why i don't eat or cook at home, the ants here are crazy fast to detect food)

the ants problem can be solved easily with the "ant powder" that can be bought in any hardware shops or pasar malam....only cost around rm0.50 to rm1 per pack....

as for the mealworms, do not wet them with any water at all....like suggested by the others, oats + carrots will be the best feed.....

btw, i saw alot of vomit in Rosie's home yesterday...now i starting to get worried as she is not eating the kibbles and drink very little water daily....all she do it sleep and running on the wheel when she is awake....will take one or two mealworms sometimes but thats all it...she will stop eating right after that... icon_question.gif

I'm kinda soft hearted when it comes to living things (except humans and plants) so err... I feel bad killing.. even ants OTL /shoots self

What happens when they get wet? O: The meal worms i mean, tho i didnt wet them, juz the cotton.. will go out to buy vege later

I hope Rosie is okay, I have not enough experience to help though D: I shall try googling
Edit: all i found is this... Diarrhea and vomiting: If your hedgehog is experiencing either of these, remove all foods and offer only a small amount of water. If the symptoms do not clear up or it is severe, you will need to take him to a veterinarian.

oh and is guinea pig ball okay for hedgehogs? coz it was recommended in one of the hedgehog how to sites and it would be nice that she can run around in a room in a ball where she won't get hurt or run into holes

sowhoon - they could vomit due to indigestion, has it happened prior to yesterday's incident?

devilene - you could try getting the powder (so long as it's organic) or you could simple place the container you're using to keep the mealworms on top of a bigger plate or container filled with water. and i wouldn't recommend getting any sort of ball or anything remotely close which encapsulates your hedgehog in it. not only will your hog practically be trapped in it with it's own feces, the "breathing" holes could very much injure your hog's feet.

codicil*

it just hit me. is it really safe to feed our hogs mealworms gut loaded with oats? i doubt the mealworms actually digest the oats that well and mind you oats absorbs a lot of fluid. they continue doing so even once in the stomach. stomach ulcer caused by consuming dried oats is nothing but common to those (humans) that don't consume lots of water after doing so. and from what i observe lil doesn't either.

food for thought.

only saw the vomit yest....
might be something wrong with the mealworms....gotta dispose it off today....

currently only plain water + kibbles for Rosie and shall monitor for few days before taking further actions...the thing is, she is still very active running on the wheel whole nite, even this morning...sweat...
