1. Annual Income: > RM 60k

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: A Must

3. Card required for: travel, shopping, entertainment

4. Existing credit cards if any: maybank2card

5. Looking at CC from: HSBC and Citi

I am going to United State on September for few months. I heard from others that sometimes maybankcard couldn't be used in oversea. I feel like getting an additional card for my spending over there in case my maybank2card couldn't be used. My friends suggested me to get Citi or HSBC because if my card couldn't be used, I can easily walk in the bank in States whereas it would be hassle for maybankcard.

Thank you in advance.

Sorry, maybe I did not explain it well enough.
Indeed all cc in msia is valid worldwide. But my concern is sometimes, when the card is being swiped in oversea, the bank hold it temporarily and request the permission from cardholder before authorize the transaction. My friend had few cases before. He tried to swipe the card but unfortunately the transaction is rejected. And the worst part is his phone not enabled with international roaming. When he back to msia, he is being told by the bank that the bank is trying to call him to validate the transaction but unfortunately the bank couldn't reach him, that's y the bank block the transaction.

I afraid that my transaction will be rejected when I swipe my card using maybank2card and I need to call the bank to validate it. It's quite a hassle sometimes. So I am advised to get cc from citi or hsbc becoz they have branches worldwide and easily to get assistance.

Anyway, thank you for your recommendation. I think I will go for Citi since the currency exchange rate is 1% lower than hsbc 1.25% (https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1845691) and free entries to airport lounge.

in that case, at least inform your bank before your departure, where and how long you will be oversea. that will help make your card transaction smoother. but it is better to have international roaming turn on, for case like this or if you missing your card and want to hold it temporarily. else you might facing heavy debt when return if someone use the card happily. be fully prepared before going oversea will help make to make you happy journey till the end.
