For you case, too bad you most probably cannot qualify for the OCBC Titanium MasterCard. So your other option is Maybankard 2 Gold Cards where the annual income requirement is RM30K. However the Maybankard 2 Cards is a combination of points and cash back which does not suit your requirements of wanting Cash Back Card Only. So the best next card you can qualify for is UOB One Card which earns you 5% cash back for petrol at ALL Petrol stations everyday. and 2% cash back for Telco BUT only 0.3% for Utility.

Please click here to see my comparison table. Click on the cards to read more about the benefits of each card.

If you wiling to consider Treats Points, the Maybankard 2 Cards is a very good option compare to UOB One Card.

If you can pump petrol on Saturday and Sunday, you can earn 5% cash back and equivalent of approximately 2.5% cash back from the Treats Points. Therefore total 7.5% returns.

For Astro and Telco, you are guaranteed to earn 5X Treats Points which is equivalent to 2.5% returns. This even beats UOB 2% for Telco.

And for TNB, you can use the Maybankard 2 AMEX and sign up for AMEX Autopay and earn 5X TP once again. UOB One CArd only earns you 0.3% cash back.

And for places that do not accept AMEX, the Maybankard 2 Visa or MasterCard which earns you 1X TP equivalent to 0.5% returns is still better than UOB One Card 0.3%

But, with income of RM30K and spending RM5K/month, best you go use your partner's card tongue.gif

Try apply for OCBC Titanium MasterCard and Maybankard 2 Cards First. Click here to go to my CASH BACK Page at my blog to see comparison and also click on the links to read more.

If you cannot get a credit card approved because of lack of documentation to proof your income, you can always get FREE credit cards when you open Premier/Privilege/Priority Banking Account. Click here to read more about Premier Credit Cards. And click here to read about Premier Banking.

For your case, same thing, look into OCBC Titanium MasterCard and Maybankard 2 Cards.

Please click on link above on CASH BACK cards and read more about them. You should seriously consider Maybankard 2 Card where the American Express earns you 5X Treat Points with for any transactions which is equivalent to 2.5% cash back based on cash voucher redemption AND on Saturdays and Sundays it earns you EXTRA 5% cash back.

Click here to read my article titled Apple IPad2 for RM999 with Maybank On The Spot Redemption.

Click here to read my article on Credit Cards for Education Bills. Look into OCBC Great Eastern Credit Card. OR Consider getting Alliance Platinum or Alliance Premier Debit Card (with Privilege Banking)

And if you do really consistently spend close to RM5K/month, Click here to read my article Earn Pocket Money with Credit Cards where the Alliance Plat is good for places that do not accept AMEX.

Click here to read my article on Entry Level Credit Cards. For petrol UOB One Card in great since it earns you 5% cach back at ALL Petrol stations BUT for general transactions it only erans you miserable 0.3% cash back.

I already have M2 cards and OCBC Titanium. Currently for petrol i will use m2 cards, and ocbc for telco bills. These two cards i already max out the RM50 rebate every month. I still have about 5k bills to pay every month, for TNB and telco, wondering which are the cards suitable for me?

You have several options.

Use your existing MBB2 AMEX for your Telco Bill and TNB and continue earning 5X Treas Points equivalent to 2.5%. However you have to sign up for auto debit.

For Telcos - just walk into DiGi, Maxis or Celcom centres and request for it.

For TNB, you need to apply thru AMEX Express AutoPay. Click here to AMEX site to check it out.

Or you can get Alliance Platinum Visa or MasterCard which is good for up to RM5K where you can earn RM68.75 cash back per month and unlimited Rewards Points . Click here to read my article Earn Pocket Money with Your Credit Cards. With the cash back and points for spending up to RM5K, it is like getting 2% in returns ( which is less than MBB 2 AMEX 5X TP ).

Wow! Got a Financial Planner asking for our advise tongue.gif

Your HLB Essesntial earns you nothing for Petrol. So first card to get is OCBC Titanium MasterCard which earns you 5% cash back for Petrol, Utilities, Groceries, Dining and Telco Everyday. However, since you do spend more than RM1K, go get the Maybankard 2 Cards where the AMEX earns you 5X TP everyday (equivalent to 2.5% approximately in cash back) AND EXTRA 5% cash back for all types of face to face transactions on Saturdays and Sundays. Please click on links I posted in my above replies to others to read more about Cash Back Cards and to see comparison.

Recommend you click here and read my article Earn Pocket Money with Your Credit Cards. I hope you'll recommend my article to your clients too and help them earn extra pocket money tongue.gif

Too bad you AIA agent, else you the OCBC GE Card is great for those with GE Insurance.

1. Exactly how much you are going to spend? Over how long?

2. And do you know where? Some furniture shop may give you further discount if you pay with cash.

1. Budget is around 10k. over the next 2months may be.

2. Surveying currently. Has spent about RM600 on the light - where the lighting shop don't accept Amex, and just 1% under OCBC card. I think usually the shop always prefer cash. Some shop (e.g. Shop that sell tiles) even want to charge me more (3%) for using CC.

After spent at the lighting shop, it trigger my thinking - which card should I use to get more than 1% cash back if the shop don't accept Amex? Is there any?

There are cards that offer up to 2% cash back equivalent e.g. Alliance Platinum for max RM5K/month where you will earn max RM68.75 cash back and 5K reward points.

So if you can split the expenses into 2 different statement cycle, you will earn RM137.50 cash back and 10,000 points.

But if you consider GST, you'll only earn RM87.50 cash back and the 10,000 points can use for next year GST.

And if you currently have a card like HLB Essential which earns you 1% cash back, you'll only be earning extra RM37.50 (RM137.50-RM100) not including the points.

So if you ask me, why go thru all the trouble just to earn less than RM100.

If you consistently going to spend RM5K/month , the Alliance Plat is good.

If they going to be imposed surcharge, better you pay with cash. If you really think about it, the 3% surcharge is like upfront interest where you have to settle within a month or so, therefore, the "effective rate" is like more than double.

My advise is go survey more and ask if the shop got 0% installment scheme. If you buy some stuff at Ikea or Courts, no surcharge for CC and can use AMEX smile.gif

Thanks GenX. You are very helpful and knowledgeable.

These are the 4 (or 5) cards that I keep.

A) CIMB Petronas Gold MC- my first card and tied to installment for Diamond water filter.
B) Standard Charted Gold Visa - keep this card as GST waived.

Applied after read your blog: rclxms.gif
C) Maybankard2 Platinum- Amex and MC
D) OCBC Titanium MC.

4. Existing credit cards if any: Nil

5. Preferred Bank or Considering CC from banks: Citibank

6. Others: thinking to apply my very first Credit Card and i think Citibank's CC is pretty cool
but the problem is I am actually working under Citigroup company ( Not Citibank but Citigroup Transaction Svs Sdn Bhd)
I tried to approach Citibank's CC Salesperson but i was told that they can't accept my application and ask me to apply with my HR instead.
So my question is can i get a Citibank's CC like other non-citi employee? Because what i can get from HR is only employee credit card which i have to return when i quit my job. Any advise or any other recommendation?

7. Estimated Spending per month with the card: Less than RM1K

In my opinion, I think no harm to start with an employee credit card - since you just need that for your convenience + you can save IBG - believe your payroll should under Citibank.

Your question on 6. should refer to your company credit card policy. So, you can call up your HR or Call Center to ask them.
