Where can I pre-order the game
Officially this game only available for US and Europe only, so there will be no officially available in our local store. HOWEVER there are few option you can buy it from.
- Offgamers.com (Only in Digital form, you have to download the whole game via Origins, offgamers also give away early access codes)
- Play-Asia.com (Located in HK, Physical copy only, no early access code) Also available Collector Edition (but no pricing yet)
- Amazon.com (Not recomended unless you are getting Collector Edition), the total amount physical copy of the game (standard)+ shipping to Malaysia + early access code = around RM300
I DO NOT recomended other than these method as these method 100% tested in our community and it work. VPN/Proxy allow you to see and buy the game via Origins but your local credit card wont work.
However our local store Gamers Hideout at PJ will get the stock after the release date, they currently cannot confirm if the game can arrive on launch date or not.

What server that most of our local player play?
At this point we assume Keetael was our primary selected server. Tested during beta and it works fine.

When does the game release and when can I join the early access I get from my pre-order?
the game release on 20th December 2011 - US time (should be somewhere early morning in 21th Dec in our local time). Early access allow you to play as early as 15th Dec, however this entirely depend on how early you pre-order the game, you will get the notification via email.

Is there a local community or guild that we local player can join?
Yeap, we are at facebook, as for guild some of the community member already make guild, we will mainly separate 2 guild (1 light side and 1 dark side). Come in to the facebook for update

You do realize :-
1) NDA not yet lifted
2) monthly commitment how much ? ( have not announced)
3) There is a region block for half the planet
4) They have NOT decided to block ip address FOR NOW ( they might)
5) There will be no account support for red region players ( country that are not listed)
6) Credit card top up via Origin store are not available for red region(yet)

For question 4, I feel there is a great chance they wont IP block, there is chance they might block but lower, seeing how EA and Bioware operate, is unlikely to be block.

The official website I can set my account-country to Malaysia.

If anything goes ill, just use VPN or proxy. Reload card wont be much trouble as can get almost anywhere on digital store like offgamers.

As much as i dont like this out of region debacle, will it ever officially launch in Malaysia? And the region block thing is just that, limited launch.

while they say that "currently" they have no plans on ip or CC blocking i dont think they will do that, not if they want to compete with Activision/Blizzard. Also theyve said that the game is universal, meaning you can play on EU if you bought NA version and vice versa. in other words, it is safe to import the game even if they decide to make an oceanic server later on. Also posted that they receive all major credit cards even if theyre not in the launch regions, im guessing that includes our visa cards. no account support is understandable. i dunno about you guys but 4 years without account support with blizzard and i was fine. monthly sub they say will be on par with other games, im guessing will also be the same as WOW's model.

I for one wont be preordering the game from amazon unless its done in bulk, hoping for some of our local game retailers to bring them in. How they handled this thing kinda sucks (very little official communication) but here's hoping the game can make up for it.

you said probably true, now the 1 thing i dont understand is why there is still no launch date? Bioware can annouced ME3 which launch next year and not SW:TOR which launch this year?

This make me assume that Bioware still actually planning worldwide release and need time to organize their resources. So they dont actually know when they can complete. Well that just my assumption.

itd be great if they're witholding their launch dates just to gauge international demands but i doubt it at this point.. theyre probably just gonna announce the date close to launch so other competitors will be hard pressed to come up with a counter strategy (diablo 3 beta or maybe a new wow patch?). thats the conspiracy theorist in me speaking

This game isn't getting the attention it deserves among Malaysian gamers. For shame.

That's because a lot of people have been put off by the fact that Asia, Oceanic and half of Europe have been excluded from launch. We don't even know when we will get to play the game. Maybe couple months after, maybe even half a year later. And when we are finally included, by then most people would have moved on to other things.

Did you put your country as US? Because I read only launch countries are getting invites.

I remember having to use some random US address when I first played WoW. Is the SWTOR situation similar to that or is it worse? Eg. no matter what, we cannot play the game and get IP-blocked a la Nexon?

If it's the latter then it's a damn shame. They'll lose a lot of subs to GW2 when it comes out eventually.

Yea i did put US in my profile. I've read that some people in Australia have beta tested it so i don't think IP-blocking in full effect and i remember reading that they're not planning to as well. Unless those players used proxy to connect. I suppose we'll see what happens in couple days.

It's a real damn shame to be honest, if you go to their forum, there is already an elitist attitude among the players. People are saying we're not the targeted audience and have no right to beta or say in anything. Never thought i'd see the day where gamers are being openly discriminated on the basis of their country of origin.

it's Star Wars, the vocal minority will always be bad. In fact some of those calling for only US and EU betas are the very ones who don't have an invite yet. They feel that somehow adding extra countries and regions will affect their chances of getting in.

Yeah i guess so. Feels a bit strange to be afraid to tell ppl where i'm from initially, but after a bit of gameplay and knowing people, no one really cares about your location. And i noticed that the general forum is a false representation of the swotor community. Those general forum fans are really fanbois, where as in beta they're more grounded and not exactly fanatical about the game. Overall, i'm quite pleased with the beta and as far as an online rpg goes, the game has what i look for. Not sure whether or not to preorder it since i'll have to play on a US time server and there still no news whether or not i can server transfer later on.

Edit: Just a heads up, there's another batch of invites going around for the next upcoming beta test mainly for oceanic/asia testers. Check your invites because they can and will expire if you don't accept the invitation.

What logic is this

haha that sounds overly complicated but i suppose it works by you needing to activate it after every 3 strikes.

activate (assuming no gcd)
0s - first strike - 117 damage
1.5s - second strike - 234 damage
3s - third strike - 351 damage
4.5s - Activate Deadly saber (assuming no gcd)
5s - refresh first strike
etc

Ah ok. Doesn't bother me that much. We;re not supposed to take everything too literally as if it's all 'realistic'. I mean a lightsaber in theory should be able to one shot someone whenever it hits the mark, but this is not practical in games where you need to maintain a certain longetivity and variety in gameplay.

Can we even buy and play this game despite being excluded from the launch region?

AFAIK They won't ip block non-us players, but you'll have to import the game itself from the US i.e amazon or something, and they won't guarantee that the ping times would be manageable for overseas players.

The ping is very decent - wow like ping - if you use tunneling service.

Theyre selling a preorder pack here in germany.
The box has a card with a code inside for some weapon. Tempted to buy but got a good feeling its gonna be valid for eu server only

The code is also for early access prior launch and far as i know it's not limited to region. If you buy a german localised swtor, you will be able to play on us servers.

Seriously? But the box is only like rm8. I might just go get one =)

8 ringgit is dirt cheap! The preorder price is around 59 us dollar. Maybe that's like a pre order deposit or something. Can you find out ? Coz i'd get one if it's that cheap. Anyway, here is the info straight from the preorder FAQ :

Online cd-key only thru Origins which is blocked if you're in the red zone.

Installing shouldn't be a problem. Early access enable us to download a client without having the actual discs. Not to mention other unofficial sources. It's the validation of the cdkeys via origin that will be a problem. I wonder you if you can use some sort of proxy to bypass origin.

I am so surprise that the reception is freaking cold over here.

Wee bought myself a preorder code at germany and registered it already. All set for the game but I feel like getting the collectors edition instead. Wonder what will happen if I buy the boxed CE and register it over my current SE preorder code. Hmm...

Early Access just means they send you the box earlier than the launch date.
(Bought WoW expansions locally, they always manage to send the box 1 day or 2 before launch date)

Only way to download it is thru Origins, in which you have to buy a digital copy from Origins. No digital copy = no client download. Registering pre-order codes is just that, registering the code from your box, they aren't letting you download.

So there's one person selling pre-order codes here (he's prolly a few pages up). He's selling pre-order codes and not sending the actual box. I'm like "So I'm paying you RM300 to help you register a code? no box no client no cdkey for me? And your supplier is LucasArts...okay". And I laughed in his face (metaphorically) for failing at scamming.

No that's not right. They will not send you the box until launch day - 20th Dec regardless if you have preordered or not. A client will be available for download later on if you have redeem the preorder codes. Also the preorder codes are not linked to the actual game itself and can be transferred to other people unless you have redeem it. Which is why there are places and people selling them separately. The following are from the Preorder FAQ :

How will I be able to gain access to the Game in time for Early Game Access?
Customers who have redeemed their Pre-Order Code for Star Wars: The Old Republic will be notified via email prior to the beginning of Early Game Access that the Game client is ready for download. Another email will be sent at the beginning of Early Game Access to inform players that they can now access Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Can I give my Pre-Order Code to someone else?
Yes, but only if you have not already registered it to your own Star Wars: The Old Republic account. Once a Pre-Order Code is attached to a Star Wars: The Old Republic account it is locked to that account. Pre-Order Codes that are redeemed on our Code Redemption Center are locked to the account through which the code is redeemed.

Ahh shit just found the box with the code for collector's edition going for 10 euros.
Unfortunately I bought and registered a normal edition one YesterdaY already... dammit

Don't worry about it dude. There's literally no difference between the standard and collector's preorder codes. All it matters is how early you redeem those codes; the sooner you redeem the sooner you get into early access. The collector is still nice tho and i think i might grab it if they ever release one for Asia.

so to beta players, which class hav the best story?

very hard to say, i prefer sith warrior and bounty hunter. It really sways you towards the how you gonna play the game for the rest of your characters progression. While playing bounty hunter, i'm leaning towards a greedy good guy while sith warrior, a no mercy, kill all mentality.

Dont like playing the jedi knight as i feel that the story line was a lil lacking, but trooper was kinda fun and a lil OP during PvE imo.. Sith Inquisitors storyline was not that great for me.. The character i played the longest would be the Sith Warrior, but if i had more time to test, im sure the bounty hunter would take up more of my time..

I played Jedi Knight last beta. Story line was decent but the voice over got me really interested in the story. Felt good being sent out carrying missions rooting out the evil sith Gonna try out trooper this weekend. But i hear Imperial agent has the best story so i'm gonna save that for launch.

Looking forward to play with you all.

Oh and btw, the last time i played my ping was around 700 - 800ish and the combat was very choppy. Had to use tunneling service to bring down the ping to 200 which made a ton of difference.

Invited to the beta as well and downloading as we speak. Crunched through 14gb for the past 8 hours at 657kb/s. Surprisingly, its very stable in the downloads.

For the pre-ordering from Play Asia, price gone up to RM205.

Also got beta invite. Leaving computer on at home to download while i go to work. I hope it's completed when i get back

Downloading at 422 kbps at the moment,stupid login server down last nite,if not can start downloading already. Damn man 20GB, dunno if get back from work today can finish or not.
