why still recommending old processors which are eoled...new processors support 16gb ram...
*
RAM support depends on motherboard and the number of slots. The processor only determines the frequency support of the RAM.

And which one should I recommend then? doh.gif
The latest Toshs with i3-2330m does't have 3 years warranty support.
Which one is better, more RAM support which you won't/can't use/afford, or 3 years warranty support? laugh.gif

Do keep track of Wikipedia, they update it quite quickly.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandy_Bridge *haven't updated with the latest models yet haha, give it some time

Hi I have a 1k budget to get a netbook as a gift for sponsoring ppl's annual dinner(lucky draw). Please advice

1. Brand: Any brand
2. Budget: Rm1000-1100
3. Usage: Lucky draw gift, no special requirement
4. Size: any
*
Can consider this:
Asus Eee PC 1015B, AMD C-50 + AMD HD6250 + (1024x600)@RM899 [1.3kg], Colors: Black/White/Red

or if you want something fancier with more color options, then:
Toshiba NB520-1035/37/39/41/43, Atom N570 + Intel GMA3150@RM1099[1.32kg] [Harman/kardon], Colors: Brown/Blue/Lime Green/ Copper/Turquoise *some shops are selling at RM999 only brows.gif

I would recommend the Toshiba over the 1015b this time, purely because of its uniqueness, works well as lucky draw gift hehe

Hi guys. I'm planning to buy a new laptop before the end of this week. I'm currently trying to decide between getting a HP Pavillion dv6 or ASUS N55SF. Any advice on which laptop is better (in terms of performance, build quality etc)?

I'm also open to other suggestions. My requirements are i5/i7 processor, 4GB RAM, 15in display (prefer HD or higher), good GPU, and good battery life (preferably at least 3 hours). Blu-Ray player and backlit keyboard would be a plus.

Uses are for university coursework, watching movies and moderate gaming (think Mass Effect 3, Battlefield 3 etc). Budget is rm4000. Oh, and I'm gonna use the laptop for university in UK.

Thanks a bunch! smile.gif
*
Asus laptops come with 2 years international warranty as standard, so noneed to fork out extra money to extend the warranty brows.gif
Considered this one yet?
Asus G53Sx-SZ039v, i7-2630QM + Nvidia GTX560M (2GB)@RM3999, backlit keyboard, gaming backpack & mouse

Runs on 8 cell batteries and shouldn't have any problems reaching 3 hours with Wifi and min power configurations. But you'd have to sacrifice in terms of portability yo haha~

Otherwise, (i) get the i5 variant (not i7, not worth it imho) of the N55sf OR (ii) Get the Dv6, then extend the warranty to international and you'd be good to go [or you can just buy it in UK as well] haha

Which one is better?

-Aspire 4755G, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT540M(2GB)@RM2199

-TimelineX 4830TG, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT540M@RM2499

-A43Sv, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT540M(2GB)@RM2499

Or can suggest other model that is more better in terms of performance, less heat and good design (must be within same price)
*
Asus N43SL, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT540m@RM2599 is better brows.gif
You should be able to find it at around RM2.3-2.4k now nod.gif

*Do take note that the amount of VRAM (1GB vs 2GB) for the GT540m is not important- no performance difference

becuz

1) it takes time for new CPU to hit the market
2) depending on the use, CPU is not everything...
3) for laptops, warranty is a crucial factor to consider as well

Hey guys, got a friend who will be studying 3D animation soon. Will a laptop with this spec be enough to last through 3 years? The last time I did animation, it's with a Pentium 2 tongue.gif

Processor: Intel Core i7 - 2.630QM 2.0Ghz
OS : Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit
Display : 15.6 inch 1600x900
Memory : 4GB DDR3 - 1066 MHz
I/O : 2xUSB2.0, 2x USB 3.0, 1xVGA, 1xHDMI, 1xRJ-45 LAN, 1xmicrophone, 1xaudio-out, 1xcard reader (SD, MMC, MS, MS Pro, XD), subwoofer port
Audio : Ice Power by Bang & Olufsen
Size : 37.93 length 26.05 (d) x 3.55 height
Weight : 2.71 kg
Graphics : Nvidia GeForce GT 555M - 2GB DDR3
Network : 10 / 100 / 1000 LAN, 802.11r WLAN, Bluetooth
Hard Disk : 640 GB SATit 5400 rpm
Optical Drive : Blu-ray
Keyboard : Full size plus numpad

Is there a rough estimate as to how much money this will cost?

Thanks!

Don't have that Asus model..
Asus N55SF with Core i7 + 1366x768 is RM3699
If you want 1600x900, its on the Core i5 model, at RM2699, no bluray..

i7-2670QM, a 2630QM replacement, will be available soon. wait a bit.

Memory suggest 8GB DDR3 1333. You will need a lot of memory for modelling and rendering.

cheaper GPU should do. but get something with high VRAM value

you'll need a lot of HDD space. suggest 750GB.

FHD display will help.

Get another one or two extra monitors.

Well, it all depends on whether you would want a larger screen or a more portable laptop nod.gif
The MSI is better in terms of performance, but the Asus comes with 2 years international warranty laugh.gif
