Is the retail price of the dv6 fixed? I wont be purchasing this laptop now, mayb few months later. The price would still be the same right?
*
yes i think price is fixed may be you can get for 200 rm less but not very less ..i think if you can wait for january then you can get ivy bridge ..more fast and more amazing graphics also new generation of graphics in 28nm technology means more power saving means more battery even while gaming

in 6 months may be like jan feb 2012 we will get really nice looking laptops with small chassis like 14 inch display in 13 inch chassis or 15 inch display in 14 inch chassis means display border will get smaller ..already lg has introduced its blade series with really small chassis using high quality aluminium

Asus UX21 is already on its way brows.gif
But then slim profiled laptops aren't meant to have high specs as the cooling system just cannot cope with the heat generated  sad.gif
*
i am not saying about ultrabooks..i am saying about normal lappi which has ivy bridge ..see presently we have 32nm processor and 40 nm graphics means 72nm like gt 540 in jan 2012 we will have 22nm ivy bridge and 28nm kepler dedicated graphics means 50 nm whics means atleast 50 percent lesser heat generatio

I doubt the heat will be lesser laugh.gif
Anyway, let's wait and see
*
i can guarantee you that heat generation will be less because surface area is decreasing..also integrated graphics much better now we will have to see how much heat is reduced... i am also eagerly waiting for it

HP Dv6 would be the best choice I would say~
Dv6-6001TX, i7-2630QM + AMD HD6770@RM3499 [2.63kg]; Beats headphones
Dv6-6114TX, i7-2630QM + AMD HD6770 + BluRay@RM3799 [Beats][2.63kg], [4GB RAM] Beats headphones, HP optical mouse, HP 500GB external HDD

Some forumer managed to get RM2.9k withouth the Beats headphones (usually its around RM3.1k)
*
i say the best would be dell xps series it has got best audio you can customize it from top to bottom

14" are all more than 2kg nod.gif
Its either compromise or go for something smaller~
*
or may be wait till 2012...intel just said that all 15 and 17 inch laps will be less than 21mm in height..which obviously means that 15 inch will be less than 2kg..oh god so confused to buy right now or to buy and regret later seeing all size 0 laptops in 12

Those bad comments are from haters, they aren't really using Acer in the first place. People recommending Acer because it is a good brand. Its not al ike any other company is bulletproof and without defect
*
i think acer has worst build quality and worst screen.. also brightness and contrast of that glossy mirror acer uses is very low standard..keyboard by acer has lot of flex ..the touch pad used by acer is very laggy and slow..

We cannot generalize here because it varies from model to model... And its applicable to all other brands as well nod.gif
*
for example acer timeline has non user replacable battery which is a really crap decision..worst decision any one could take...it is simply untolerable

Had a really hard time choosing between Dell XPS 15 and HP dv6-6114tx...

XPS 15  RM3945
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64bit (English)
2nd generation Intel® Core™ i5-2410M processor 2.30 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 2.90 GHz
McAfee® Security Center - 15 Months Version
15.6" (39.6cm) FHD (1920x1080) B+RGLED display with TrueLife™
4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM (1 x 4GB)
500GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
Tray Load Fixed Blu-ray BD-ROM / DVD + /-RW Combo Drive
Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 1030 with Bluetooth v3.0+HS for Malaysia
Dell™ Backlit Keyboard (English)
6 Cell Primary Battery

dv6-6114tx  RM3799
2nd generation Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM Processor
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium Edition 64-bit
8 GB DDR3 Memory
15.6" High-Definition LED HP BrightView Display
750 GB Hard Disk Drive
Beats Solo
Microsoft® Office Home and Student 2010 Software
Spec wise, dv6 is much better, but Dell's backlit keyboard and Full HD screen is very tempting. Both have Blu-ray ROM but it seems useless to me if I don't have an 1080p display..

My usage will be mainly movies and music, assignments, and light gaming. One question though..how does Dell's JBL speakers compare to HP's beats audio? Is it a lot different? Audio quality is very important to me...
*
ya dell has subwoofer which will produce amazing bass hp has no subwoofer so no bass ..beats audio is good when you wanna listen through using your headphones ..also i heard touchpad of hp is less smooth than dell ..go for dell if you can spend more than 3k.

Thanks for the advice given by [PF] T.J. and IvanWong1989.

I decided to get Asus A43SJ-VX259V at PC fair yesterday.

Basically, the spec is:
i5-2410M Processor 2.30GHz
Window 7 Home Premium
640GB, 4GB DDR3 RAM
Nvidia Geforce GT520M with 1GB DDR3 VRAM

Decided to give up the 8GB RAM and GT540M GPU. Opt for little saving and slightly bigger hardisk size as I am not gamer and using PC for online, movie and other light activities only. Well, price difference between A43SV-VX053V and my current model is only RM150 only.

hi many congrats..can you tell about the speakers of a43..like the bass level ..i just heard song from dv6 series beats audio speaker and my nokia n8 sounds better than it...lolzz

just one suggestion to all friends..if you are going for hp dv6 series laptops then just check their features because not all of them have usb 3.0 ports..they have only 2.0 which is slow data rate compared to 3.0 standard

i am against spending too much money on laptop because you wont use it for more than 2 or 3 years and even if you buy the best of best now it will become out of fashion obsolete in 1 year like i bought 2 gb core 2 duo laptop when even desktops came with atmost 1gb ram after a year all laptops started with 3gb as a lowest configuration..it was sheer wastage of money laptops are and will never will able to do heavy duty stuff there speakers screen can never replace even cheap desktop configurations you will only bad after 6 months when you will see a much better specs at low price
