You're working permanently in Thailand? hmm.gif Or you're just buying there and bring it over to M'sia?
Which one to choose depends very much on warranty coverage, and also whether you would want to upgrade your laptop in the future or not laugh.gif

I will be here working for 3years. Buying laptop in thailand is not a good choice. (expensive imo and i don't like the thai word on keyboard). Not sure if I need to upgrade my laptop in the future(opinion needed on this one) doh.gif

Looks like you are working in a multinational company.

I suggest you to get an international supported machine, like ASUS. DELL isn't a good international warranty supporter since they require you to purchase at least 3 years on-site repair in order to have cross-regional support in some regions (including Malaysia).

Hey all,

Can anyone recommend me the best bang for buck laptops that will run Starcraft 2 at decent levels? Don't care about any other games.

I was looking at Sager, purely for a value point of view (hoping build quality/heating problems aren't too bad...). I know they are customizable, but here are some quick reference setups I was trying to decide between. They all have the following in common:
i7-2630QM
8Gb DDR3 ram
300Gb Intel 320 SSD

SAGER NP3250
1366 x 768
<del>1GB GDDR3 Nvidia GeForce GT 520M GPU</del>: SC2 @ medium settings -> 27 fps
RM: 4707

SAGER NP5160
1920 x 1080
1GB GDDR3 Nvidia GeForce GT 540M: SC2 @ medium settings -> 53 fps (1360x768)
RM: 4,962

SAGER NP5165
1920 x 1080
2GB GDDR3 Nvidia GeForce GT 555M GPU: SC2 @ medium settings -> 59 fps
RM: 5,501 (100 lower due to sale)

SAGER NP8130
1920 x 1080
GTX 560M GPU with 1.5GB GDDR5: SC2 @ high settings -> 67.9 fps
RM: 5,859 (100 lower due to sale)

Does anyone have any feedback/experience/reviews to attest to the SC2 performance of any of the above? If I can run SC2 on NP3250 medium settings and decent frame-rate I'd be happy. The NP8130 looks tasty but will kind of break my budget. Obviously if the NP3250 can't run the game well though there's no point wasting money in the first place.

Any help appreciated smile.gif

Prince J is right. Regardless of which laptop you go for, just make sure its international warranty covered.
Or you could just go for Asus's G series since they come with 2 years international warranty as standard nod.gif
Asus
G53Sx-IX042v [3D], i7-2630QM + Nvidia GTX560M (2GB) + Bluray@RM4999, backlit keyboard, 3D glasses, gaming backpack & mouse

GT555m can run SC2 smoothly at high settings based on notebookcheck's gaming list: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Game...ds.13849.0.html
You'll need to lower the resolution on the NP5165 to be able to max the settings though laugh.gif

can consider Asus G-series as well

@PFTJ - cheers for the link. For the model you mentioned, the website lists it as 1920x1080 resolution. Can I still run either the laptop or the game itself in lower resolution (1360x768)? I thought for some reason you needed to pair the game with the laptops native res for good effect.

Do take note that there are several variants of the Nvidia GT555m, iinm, the Sager is running on the one with:

144 cores 590MHz (GF106), 128Bit DDR3

I'm not sure which laptops the gaming benchmarks were based on laugh.gif
I was just wondering, where did it indicate that it was running the game on FullHD? If that's true, lowering the resolution to 1366x768 will definitely enable you to play SC2 on max settings hmm.gif

Actually not into 3D stuffs, I'm just editing those RAW format photos and also some HD video editing.

VAIO having problem on heat and fan? Hmm... actually this VAIO S model is one of my choices as well...

How about Fujitsu, like SH561 model? or Asus U36SD (not sure whether out already or not)? Actually I do consider Portege R830 too, but just that no dedicated GPU, not sure whether is that really matter for my case here....
*
Fujitsu Lifebook SH561(Made in Japan) is quite good for RM4K budget,do remember to upgrade the warranty to 3 years parts & labor.

You purchase laptop just for playing Starcraft 2? To be frank, there are thousand of models equip with the same specs as NP3250 and lower price. The fact is Sager is coming from US, the price is not so competitive in the lower end product line due to high labor cost over there.

However, NP8130, NP5160, NP5165 and NP5175 are good value models and all are customizable at reasonable price. Especially NP8130, but the RM100 discount will be ended by today 11.59pm subjected to payment clearance.

Thank you.

Can consider these one, more or less between work and play:
14" Toshiba Satellite L745-1050X, i3-2310 + Nvidia GT525M@RM1999[2.14kg], 2nd & 3rd year warranty

More towards play:
14" Asus A43TA, AMD A6-3400M + AMD HD6550@RM1899
15" Aspire 5560G, AMD A6-3400 + AMD HD6650@RM1899[2.6kg]

If can raise budget to around RM2.2k, then:
Acer Aspire 4755G, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT540M(2GB)@RM2199 , 3 years warranty
Asus A43Sv, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT540M(1GB)@RM2349[2.44kg]
Dell Inspiron 14R (N4110), i5-2410M + AMD HD6630@RM2299, *Big Giant Plaid!Lid

Which one is better?

-Aspire 4755G, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT540M(2GB)@RM2199

-TimelineX 4830TG, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT540M@RM2499

-A43Sv, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT540M(2GB)@RM2499

Or can suggest other model that is more better in terms of performance, less heat and good design (must be within same price)

Hi guys. I'm planning to buy a new laptop before the end of this week. I'm currently trying to decide between getting a HP Pavillion dv6 or ASUS N55SF. Any advice on which laptop is better (in terms of performance, build quality etc)?

I'm also open to other suggestions. My requirements are i5/i7 processor, 4GB RAM, 15in display (prefer HD or higher), good GPU, and good battery life (preferably at least 3 hours). Blu-Ray player and backlit keyboard would be a plus.

Uses are for university coursework, watching movies and moderate gaming (think Mass Effect 3, Battlefield 3 etc). Budget is rm4000. Oh, and I'm gonna use the laptop for university in UK.

Thanks a bunch! smile.gif

Even if the processor support 16GB, your mobo only have 2 slot for RAM..
