QUOTE(gnome @ Aug 30 2011, 11:04 PM) Tamron 70-300mm VC, cheap and sharp from what i heard The cheapest prime will be the crap out of kit lens... they are simple and easier to build. Not as complicated as zoom lens, only the pro grade zoom lens comes close to a prime's IQ performance.Added on August 30, 2011, 11:05 pm But...but...prime lens is expensive! /points to 24mm F1.4 |

Not covered in warranty, price vary depending on the model of your DSLR. |

QUOTE(vearn27 @ Sep 2 2011, 01:01 PM) In my case, I still finds the 50mm f/1.8G more crispier than the 17-55 f/2.8. No idea, don't own those 2 lens.I just went for a trip during the 3 days holidays break and been carrying D7000 + BG + 17-55 and the SB900 in the bag all the time with me My gf however said the D7000 has better grip than the D5100 although she's thin. In addition, she said the D7000 weight just balance enough too. But if talking about 85mm f/1.4G and 70200 VRII, I don't exactly see the differences in terms of image quality at f/2.8. Oh wait, I don't shoot at f/2.8 often on the prime anyways, its all about wide open |

QUOTE(tatagal @ Sep 2 2011, 03:11 PM) I have come across that in some countries i.e. Aus / US, D7000 is bundled with other lens i.e. af-s 18-200mm vr II lens rather than 15 -105mm vr. Well, 18-200 --> all rounder. You have from wide to telephoto. No need to change lens.IMHO, 18-200 should be better buy compare to 18-105 especially for those who likes to travel with just one lens! Anyone has done quality comparison between these lens? QUOTE(jchue73 @ Sep 2 2011, 04:45 PM) 24MP + 12fps, this spec alone totally tapao any DSLR on paper. But then again, how many actually looks at the details? ISO performance? Focusing accuracy? etc... oh well. No doubt, these numbers are great bragging points of the Sony A77.QUOTE(vearn27 @ Sep 2 2011, 05:01 PM) Hmm... yet to test the quality comparison between 50mm f/1.8G and 17-55 f/2.8G shooting at 50mm f/2.8 altogether. Will test it out and post the result here when available I've posted mine below, up to 2048pix size for comparison. Not exactly a good comparison photo, but that's what I have uploaded now.QUOTE(jchue73 @ Sep 2 2011, 05:18 PM) Yup, that's true. The 14-24mm f/2.8 is a good example of a zoom beating almost every other prime in that range except the 24mm f/1.4. King of UWA zoom lens... Excellent distortion control for a zoom lens, and pretty close to a prime.QUOTE(jchue73 @ Sep 2 2011, 05:18 PM) To be frank, I bought the 85mm because it can shoot at f/1.4. Once in a while I go step to f/4 range, but unfortunately I don't have a side to side comparison for both lens. However I have at 200 f/2.8 versus 85 f/2.8, did it back then for the bokeh comparison. 85mm f/2.8 (85G) ![]() 85mm f/2.8 by CY Pixels, on Flickr 2048pix, » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « 200mm f/2.8 (70200VRII) ![]() 200mm f/2.8 by CY Pixels, on Flickr 2048pix, » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Focus is on the closer eye. Yes, all focal length is for 35mm sensor size which is considered the standard.
So when you use it on a DX body, any lens you will need to x1.5 to get the 'effective focal' length |

QUOTE(zstan @ Sep 3 2011, 06:15 PM) APS-C on 200mm isn't sufficient for moon. The moon looks so tiny, I have done it on the D90 with my 70200 VR2.QUOTE(lwliam @ Sep 3 2011, 08:01 PM) Bro, but 2.6 x 300 = 780mm if my mental calculation doesn't fail me. Totally agree on this statement ;-)Pwns 1.5 x 200 = 300mm any how u see it. Optical zoom is always better than post cropping. QUOTE(lwliam @ Sep 4 2011, 01:07 AM) lenses can last 20-30 years (some even longer), modern camera bodies last at most 3-4 years before getting totally obsolete.. Well, some models get refreshed within 1 year time frame only. 500D --> 550D --> 600D for example. Lens however... doesn't get replaced that fast. |

QUOTE(jchue73 @ Sep 4 2011, 03:30 AM) Perhaps you should do a 70-200mm f/2.8 focused at 85mm f/2.8 vs 85mm f/1.4 at f/2.8 (as you already did)... Don't have such comparison unfortunately QUOTE(jchue73 @ Sep 4 2011, 03:30 AM) |

QUOTE(freddy manson @ Sep 4 2011, 11:32 AM) Don't worry lens are very long lasting, provided that u use it 'wisely' Nice range on FF. Last year was using 85mm on D90 for a while, find it too tele Once u get the lens u like ie 85mm f1.8 then when a new lens ie 85mm f1.2 comes out then if u think u need the extra aperture then sell ur lens; and buy the new one. Lenses' price are very stable.. I sold my 50f/1.8 and 50f/1.4 and go for 85f/1.8 ho3 |
