QUOTE(ultramaman @ Jul 8 2011, 09:13 AM) have u tried buying magnatec or shell helix ultra from tesco ? these are made in the e.u and are brought in through tesco's channels, therefore are sold here cheaper than locally packed ones. they have mobil 1 fully syn, at rm145, but worried that it is fake. for e.g i recently bought , during a weekend offer, shell helix ultra for 80 bucks. the packing date was first quarter of this year... castrol edge is sold for around 150 bucks... and its tesco. i dont think they sell fakes.... tesco brand oils.... im wondering who their supplier is ... is it BP ? if its BP, then, tesco oil must be the same as castrols ... right ? |

Yup, quality of "Self/Own-branded" product can b questionable, even suspect! However, for Orig Oil Giants' branded products? Don't think so cos legal aspects are HUGE!! Sealing of bottles depend on country of origin. With aluminium seals, the plastic cap is NOT sealed. Those w/o aluminium seals, the plastic caps ARE SEALED! |

could it be that Tesco engine oil is actually another brand's oil which is rebadged as Tesco? Like their mineral water, which is produced by the same factory as Spritzer. Their cream crackers also actually another brand, which is repackaged as Tesco brand.

Did you guys remember few years ago everyone was raging to get ACE engine oil that was cheaper than normal branded engine oil? Some even added tuffoil inside. Then after that fad has went everyone went Eneos because it is cheap and Japanese. Then it was Idemitsu.
All in all, every oil is almost the same. Don't like change brand. If you want really expensive engine oil its either Royal Purple or Ravenol. And there are only 2 places to get them. |

QUOTE(ben83 @ Jul 9 2011, 10:42 AM) How's the oil performance? I just bought 4 bottles of it and have not tried till now cuz I've been using Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 from TESCO also bought at RM 139. Shell Helix Ultra don't have the aluminium seal on the opening though, but I've used 3 bottles since 2009 till now. So far so good, the oil still looks good even though I've been travelling more than 11000 km before oil change.Anyone can share their experience on the CASTROL, MOBIL and SHELL Fully Synthetic bought at TESCO ?? |

so far i've no issue with the shell, and castrol oil that i bought from tesco.
in fact. i recently bought a bottle of shell helix ultra at 80 ringgit. fresh bottle pulak tu. ( bargain price i know). its now in my car, and i've no issues. but i found something out. the oils that they sell in tesco is actually brought in through their channels from the UK. so for some of the product, the oil spec is lower that what u can get locally. for example. castrol magnatec 10-40 tesco is sl rated. the one sold locally is actually sm rated. i think most engine oils officially sold in malaysia is at the moment sm and sn rated. where else , in the uk. most fully syn is sm rated, most semi is sl rated. Added on July 11, 2011, 10:45 am QUOTE(conan1 @ Jul 9 2011, 10:37 AM) i dare not lor. besides. 30 bucks extra can buy castrol already...This post has been edited by ultramaman: Jul 11 2011, 10:45 AM |
