QUOTE(ultramaman @ Jul 7 2011, 07:07 PM) was wondering, Anyone used tesco brand engine oil ? anyone dare to use ? its much more cheaper than the usual rite... but if not mistaken, the api rating is the same as the other more established brands... so how ? anyone felt any difference in the shell /castrol engine oil purchased frm tesco ( which are made and packed in the e.u) and the locally packed shell/castrol engine oils ? is the grade the same ? always wondered because the e.u packed oils would have been made to suit their climate rite, and our oils here are made to 'tahan' the extra hot climate here... anyone can comment ? Juz chk 2 items : 1. SAE Viscosity Rating - as long as it's the viscosity recommended for yr car, it IS useable eg 10W40. 2. API Rating - as long as it's a valid rating recommended for yr car, it's also suitable eg SL or SM? Yup, Tesco offers are very tempting indeed!

Yup, feel Tesco, being such a BIG name among Hypermarkets, will NOT jeopardise its name & reputation by selling "fake" products!! :peacez: Prices are lower most probably due2 lower profit margins, sources & bulk purchases?

QUOTE(Matrix @ Jul 8 2011, 12:17 PM) I agreed....all these foodstuff by OEM brand like Tesco/Carrefour...all tak boleh makan...i would doubt the quality of the engine oil as well....who knows...maybe it's oil which does not pass QC from the manufacturer and they sell it cheap to Tesco/Carrefour lor....rejected oils.... Yup, quality of "Self/Own-branded" product can b questionable, even suspect! However, for Orig Oil Giants' branded products? Don't think so cos legal aspects are HUGE!! Sealing of bottles depend on country of origin. With aluminium seals, the plastic cap is NOT sealed. Those w/o aluminium seals, the plastic caps ARE SEALED!

QUOTE(Kirie @ Jul 8 2011, 06:25 PM) i mean, shell Helix at carrefour dont have aluminum seal & cap seal.. only has loose cap.. maybe someone had opened all of them edi.. Yup, probably some ppl (with itchy hands?) wanted to "see" the oil inside? Haha! I personally hv bought 2 bottles of Castrol Magnatec, 1 bottle of Mobil 1 & 1 bottle of Mobil Formula S fr Tesco AND they are ALL SEALED!!

QUOTE(mdnurman @ Jul 11 2011, 04:13 PM) i have been using shell helix ultra fully synthetic bought from tesco for rm99 a bottle (4L). usually bought 2-3 bottles everytime. been using for the past 70k+ km. better power compared to petronas oil. so far i am satisfied with shell ultra helix from tesco... save me rm100 from normal price. Proves our local prices are OVERinflated with a HUGE profit margin!! If Tesco can IMPORT such branded oils and sell them at so much lower prices AND still make a profit, one wonders...???

QUOTE(gagak_84 @ Jul 11 2011, 09:05 PM) SG = Introduced 1989 has much more active dispersant to combat black sludge SH = Introduced 1993 has same engine tests as SG, but includes phosphorus limit 0.12%, together with control of foam, volatility and shear stability SJ = Introduced 1996 has the sam e engine tests as SG/SH, but phosphorus limit 0.10% together with variation on volatility limits SL = Introduced 2001, all new engine tests reflective of modern engine designs meeting current emissions standards SM = Introduced November 2004, improved oxidation resistance, deposit protection and wear protection, also better low temperature performance over the life of the oil compared to previous categories Most EU oils sold by Tesco is SL conformity. Feel that's good enuf for most modern cars. Hv been using them eg Castrol Magnatec, Mobil S & Mobil 1 for my old & new rides. Save lotsa $$$, too!! Added on December 20, 2011, 8:52 amps. Most importantly is REGULAR oil changes @prescribed intervals eg 5k Km or 3 mths, whichever comes first! This post has been edited by zeone: Dec 20 2011, 08:52 AM

QUOTE(normanliew @ Dec 20 2011, 09:31 AM) every 3 months must change meh? i car 1 yr also not yet change btw, why 5k km? semi can go 8k km Wat was mentioned are recommended oil change intervals. These can be "stretched" if need arises & no immediate serious harm may occur. However, I've personally found that by following such schedules alwaz got good long term benefits. Good oil lubrication is most imperative in modern day engines that thrive on extracting the most output delivery. Engine oil is the ONLY medium between all friction surfaces in an engine...& of course, the ONLY available protection!! Thus, not "stretching" an oil change wld be a smart choice for a longer good engine performance & cut down premature wear & tear in an engine. Your choice & decision...
