was wondering,
Anyone used tesco brand engine oil ? anyone dare to use ? its much more cheaper than the usual rite... but if not mistaken, the api rating is the same as the other more established brands... so how ?

anyone felt any difference in the shell /castrol engine oil purchased frm tesco ( which are made and packed in the e.u) and the locally packed shell/castrol engine oils ? is the grade the same ?
always wondered because the e.u packed oils would have been made to suit their climate rite, and our oils here are made to 'tahan' the extra hot climate here... anyone can comment ?

Juz chk 2 items :
1. SAE Viscosity Rating - as long as it's the viscosity recommended for yr car, it IS useable eg 10W40.
2. API Rating - as long as it's a valid rating recommended for yr car, it's also suitable eg SL or SM?

Yup, Tesco offers are very tempting indeed! rclxm9.gif

In reality any real branded oil that comes in 4L packs is "overpriced" as mobil delvac mx comes from the distributor in 20L pails around RM180 only = RM9/L

so 9x4 = 36 sounds about right for tesco mineral oil

Anyway, locally theres alot of fake shell and castrol floating around till i never bothered getting oil from sparepart shops.

how about the mobil, caltex and shell oil in Tesco? they are priced quite low compared to the ones sold in the petrol stations. i also dare not get from spare parts shop, worried of getting fakes.

are they ok?

If they dare to endorse their Tesco mark onto the packing, I doubt it is fake. The viscosity ratings are the standard common ratings. I didn't know they repack lubricants for sale at their outlets but just as the same as their other products, they have the volume of scale to order from the manufacturers and put their brand onto it. It might be from BHP, Shell or even Petronas. I think it is even safer to buy from Tesco than to even get it from workshops!

A lot of workshop are unscrupulous rclxub.gif I have seen how they filter dirty engine oil and remix them with fresh ones and then repack them in some funny brand and sell it. what is there to stop them to pack them in those common Petroleum companies packings. I encountered once and since then I have buy from petrol stations only. For a small car like Kancil, some workshop charges 4L while it only needs 2.5L as you can see them opening up a new tub. Same with brake fluid when flushing brake systems. They conveniently forget to ask you if you want the balance. laugh.gif as they charge you by the bottle.

Between workshops and Tesco, I rather get it from Tesco.

Yup, feel Tesco, being such a BIG name among Hypermarkets, will NOT jeopardise its name & reputation by selling "fake" products!! :peacez:

Prices are lower most probably due2 lower profit margins, sources & bulk purchases? wink.gif

I'ev tried all these Carrefour/Tesco brand coffees and such....taste like shit....no thanks. I'll buy my engine oil from Petrol station and official SC. At least, i know 100% what i am getting. My car is too expensive to be cheapskate. Later pennywise, pound foolish....repair car engine...die mang.

Tesco branded lube should b genuine. Doubt they would take d risk of faking their stuff n get into legal issues. I got my last 4 bottles of Magnatec from Tesco although its EU pack but at least I feel more assured than getting from some unknown sources.

But deep down, I would probably use it for engine flushing instead of normal use. I trust their rating but not their products lifespan.

I've used the tesco oil.

They have 2 packing. 1 is cheaper, blue bottle. rm49 if not mistaken. The other one is silver bottle, semi syn, 10w40, rm69.

I used the silver bottle one in my old saga for try and error. If error, i dont mind to change the whole engine (as an excuse to go 4gx3).

So far the oil is good, and if i can put it corrected, it perform better than Castrol magnatec & some low grade Penzoill, Shell. The smoothness was comparable to medium grade Petronas eo. Trust me, its easy to feel the differences between oils using old, carb engine. Not only that, differences in quality of petrol also can be easily felt.

So Tesco... keep up the good work but make sure keep your price low. I notice in general, some item in tesco now priced much higher than last time.

have u tried buying magnatec or shell helix ultra from tesco ? these are made in the e.u and are brought in through tesco's channels, therefore are sold here cheaper than locally packed ones.

for e.g i recently bought , during a weekend offer, shell helix ultra for 80 bucks. the packing date was first quarter of this year...
castrol edge is sold for around 150 bucks...

and its tesco. i dont think they sell fakes....

tesco brand oils.... im wondering who their supplier is ... is it BP ? if its BP, then, tesco oil must be the same as castrols ... right ?
