was wondering,
Anyone used tesco brand engine oil ? anyone dare to use ? its much more cheaper than the usual rite... but if not mistaken, the api rating is the same as the other more established brands... so how ?

anyone felt any difference in the shell /castrol engine oil purchased frm tesco ( which are made and packed in the e.u) and the locally packed shell/castrol engine oils ? is the grade the same ?
always wondered because the e.u packed oils would have been made to suit their climate rite, and our oils here are made to 'tahan' the extra hot climate here... anyone can comment ?

In the uk, the mechanics there have no issue in using tesco oil....

I dont plan to use it, im wondering what is the general's public perception on it.

I'ev tried all these Carrefour/Tesco brand coffees and such....taste like shit....no thanks. I'll buy my engine oil from Petrol station and official SC. At least, i know 100% what i am getting. My car is too expensive to be cheapskate. Later pennywise, pound foolish....repair car engine...die mang.

have u tried buying magnatec or shell helix ultra from tesco ? these are made in the e.u and are brought in through tesco's channels, therefore are sold here cheaper than locally packed ones.

for e.g i recently bought , during a weekend offer, shell helix ultra for 80 bucks. the packing date was first quarter of this year...
castrol edge is sold for around 150 bucks...

and its tesco. i dont think they sell fakes....

tesco brand oils.... im wondering who their supplier is ... is it BP ? if its BP, then, tesco oil must be the same as castrols ... right ?

helix ultra, tgh pakai in my car... 5-40 . ok lar.

so , so far, no one dares to use tesco branded oil .
mmg next time i go down to tesco, i will ask their worker, whether the item sells or not...

so far i've no issue with the shell, and castrol oil that i bought from tesco.
in fact. i recently bought a bottle of shell helix ultra at 80 ringgit. fresh bottle pulak tu. ( bargain price i know). its now in my car, and i've no issues.
but i found something out. the oils that they sell in tesco is actually brought in through their channels from the UK. so for some of the product, the oil spec is lower that what u can get locally. for example. castrol magnatec 10-40 tesco is sl rated. the one sold locally is actually sm rated.
i think most engine oils officially sold in malaysia is at the moment sm and sn rated. where else , in the uk. most fully syn is sm rated, most semi is sl rated.

Nice info. Do they rate the oil on the TESCO packaging bottle?? by rite should show what SAE and grade rite?
*
they do, but i didnt check. biggrin.gif will do so the next time i walk into tesco...

oh, and castrol magnatec local is sn rated. castrol edge is sm rated (same as the one from uk..) im guessing castrol edge is brought in from eu and repacked here locally ? if this is true, then no issues in using castrol edge from tesco and its also cheaper rite... cheaper by 60 bucks...

got, but its like weekend specials. they do it once in a way. the other day, i bought one bottle for 80 bucks. actually it was a monday, and when i went to the checkout counter, they scan it as 197 . so i argued, i said, at the shelf, the price was 80 bucks, then the guy went and picked up the barcode from the shelf and scan it in.

so u got to look out for the weekend specials.

tesco oil should be genuine otherwise will be sue by manufacturer right. but the problem is packaging at UK and the quality is not par compared to oil in local..  if im not mistaken and some of it is not up to date also..
if u guys insist to buy the oil from tesco.. u should check the quality of the oil
SG  = Introduced 1989 has much more active dispersant to combat black sludge
SH =  Introduced 1993 has same engine tests as SG, but includes phosphorus limit 0.12%, together with control of foam, volatility and shear stability
SJ  =  Introduced 1996 has the same engine tests as SG/SH, but phosphorus limit 0.10% together with variation on volatility limits
SL  =  Introduced 2001, all new engine tests reflective of modern engine designs meeting current emissions standards
SM =  Introduced November 2004, improved oxidation resistance, deposit protection and wear protection, also better low temperature performance over the life of the oil compared to previous categories

As what I read & understand from Wikipedia, I think it's Esso pack for Tesco. Correct me if I'm wrong.

"...In 1997 Tesco and Esso (part of Exxonmobil) forged a business alliance that included several petrol filling stations on lease from Esso, with Tesco operating the attached stores under the Express format. In turn Esso operates the forecourts and sells their fuel via the Tesco store. 200 Tesco/Esso stores now exist across the UK..."

In the uk, tesco pun jual petrol...

Go ahead and use in Mercedes or BMW. And ask Tesco to compensate you a new car if anything goes wrong. biggrin.gif

in the uk, they dare to use ma. as long as it meets the api rating and u use the correct type of oil as recommended by the manufacturer...
