Just got my Thinkpad X60 from Techdos slightly over a week. Loving it. Running Vista Business on it now with upgraded 2GB of RAM. Everything is running smoothly except for some graphics problem. When I play warcraft 3, the screens seems to have artifact intermittently. It seems to happen if i move my mouse cursor around very fast. Also, in a 3D simulation that I ran, the 3D graphic would not display correctly, a solid model would seem like a hollow model. I wonder if this is the onboard graphics limitation or the vista having issues with direct x?

Mostly like onboard graphics limitation. The GMA950 was not meant for 3D games. Bro, why did you bought an X60 when you have gaming intention in mind? This notebook was meant for business usage.

Not really I was planning long term gaming on this laptop. I was just testing out the limitations of X60. I am now thinking of recovering it to Windows XP to see if such problems still exist. That way only I can have my own verdict. So far X60 is great doing what it is suppose to do.

Managed to get my 1GB RAM (Kingston) from Computer War at SS2 yesterday. Wow, pretty good service. Told me to come back next day and there it is!  rclxms.gif

Now my notebook "freezes" within 5-10mins and I hard reboot each time. Is it the RAM or just a coincidence? What is the problem? Solution to the problem please, anyone. Thanks!

Just to let you know Computer War Assistant Manager Mr HC Yeong solved the problem earlier today. He swapped the RAM at the slots... meaning, the IGB RAM took over the original slot of the 512 RAM slot (beneath the touch pad) and the original 512 RAM went to the back of the IBM T42. smile.gif

Hope this posting helps those facing similiar problems. Cheers! cool2.gif

Just read from InTech today that Asustek wins the contract deal to make Lenovo notebooks. But i doubt it's the Thinkpad series, more like the lower end lenovo notebooks.

The dealer I bought my thinkpad from says a new 8cell battery would set me back RM600+. So expensive.

Anyone read up on Vista OEM installation? Those laptops with factory built-in SLIC tables will be able to install the OEM version of Vista with automatic activation biggrin.gif

You can check if the SLIC table exists using Everest Ultimate Edition (trial)
http://www.lavalys.com/products/overview.p...3&ps=UE&lang=en

Look under Motherboard > ACPI > Right-hand side, look for SLIC.

For T60, only certain models made after Jan 07 will have the SLIC table built-in.

Hrmm.. Just came across this thread...
Reporting in... smile.gif

IBM Thinkpad R50P (1832-23A) >> Pentium M 1.7GHz | 1GB RAM | 60GB & 120GB 2.5" IDE HDD On-Board | DVD-RAM Drive (not inserted) | ATI Mobility Fire GL T2 128MB | 15" UXGA LCD (IPS) @ 1600x1200 resolution | GB Ethernet, 802.11b/g mPCI & Bluetooth | 10.8V 6.6Ah Battery | MS Windows XP Pro (SP2)

Have had this notebook for nearly 2.5 years (got it as a free replacement from IBM for my original Thinkpad A30P which had a lot of problems and ultimately died on me after 2 yrs), haven't changed yet because still looking for a notebook that can support 1600x1200 without weighing a ton tongue.gif

Make a back up of recovery CD. Change your new HDD and install your new HDD using the recovery disc. It will install the new OS, Thinkvantage and drivers as well as a hidden partition on your new HDD.
