Frankly speaking, I have not done the test. My Camry comes with 3 digital and 1 mechanical fuel efficiency gauges, and I have posted 2 of them here.

p/s: If you cannot trust the gauges, how can you trust some computer device to save your life.
KB-Grik-SP-Kangar. RM88.

170km/h at about 2750 RPM.
We're not talking about trust here la. doh.gif

Your FC readings will not give you the same figure as your actual full tank mileage. Its the same with most cars as far as i know. A full tank for you will be different from another person driving the same car simply because both of you are not refilling the exact same amount. When u take the actual readings only then ull understand what we mean. Its not about any test. Its a very simple method of fill full, drive, fill full again, report mileage covered, calculate L/100km then compare with gauge readings. What's so difficult? Ure filling fuel every week right? Uve already given us highway readings without we even asking for it. I dont see why it would be a problem to provide data for city driving too.

P/S: Why u still providing currency and town locations to justify FC? Just stick to the simple L/100km bro. Or provide L vs distance travelled at least. I know ure trying to show us how far u travelled but giving names of towns only gives us very rough estimates. Not everybody starts driving from 1 single point in a town you know. Plus nobody drives at a constant 170kmph on a highway over that distance. biggrin.gif

I did not say that.

Added on August 27, 2012, 4:27 pmI travelled more than 1600km this Raya. Town, village and highway.

No more complaint from my kids and wifey.

Nevermind. Just provide us with the actual full tank mileage for town driving. Maybe do a fill up today and we'll get some info by the end of the week.

Here's the step:

1. Refill your petrol until full tank. Best indicator is when the pump stop. Do not take any reading at this point. Reset the trip meter at this point of time. You may want to reset the average speed reading as well.
2. Continue driving as usual in the city.
3. Once your tank is 3/4 empty, go and refill like in the (1). Take note of distance travelled (on your trip meter) and fuel pump (litres). Take the distance divide by liter you will get KM/L figure.

I did my test again yesterday, earning a good 12km/L on Shell RON 95 on 2.0 EF Sonata 4 speed with full synthetic engine oil with average speed of 47km/h. thumbup.gif

I beg to disagree. I drove 400 km on one day at 160-180, and another day also 200. Could have easily driven more, but reached destination already. It's not that hard. 500 km at 140 is also ok (didn't want to drive full throttle all the time (fuel consumption...), and that car is a bit underpowered, 170 is vmax).

I dont quite understand what ure trying to tell us here. Do u mean to tell us your distance to empty is 538km on a full tank?

But your RPM at 110kmph is better. Approx 1875 RPM. Mine is 2250 RPM.

The Camry is 2.5, your optima is 2.0, not a fair comparison tongue.gif

I guess it depends on the gear ratio selected by the manufacturer to match with the engine capacity.

Both the Camry 2.5 and K5 also have 6-spd gearbox right? But the 6th gear ratio is different. I saw a Sorento 2.4 also with 6-spd gearbox - at 110km/h the rpm is 2400.

Yes i supposed its based on the preset gear ratios. Any idea whats the exact RPM for the new 2.0L Camry at 110kmph?

No idea, but it won't be pretty with a 4-spd gearbox.

Eh, the rev is as good as mine at that speed and mine is a 7 speed DSG gearbox. But not surprising at all, Toyota have always tuned their cars towards good fuel efficiency rather than power.

Yes thats wht i think. As u said, its tuned for fuel economy which is why the Camry's power output isnt all that great especially for the older 2.0L engine. But i checked online that the overseas version 6 speed 3.5L V6 Camry's RPM at 100kmph is 1700 compared to the Sonata 2.0L 6 speed at 1900 RPM.

But im a bit surprised that Kepala Pening's 2.5L Camry is only getting 580km+ range on a full tank. Both the Camry and Optima have similar sized fuel tanks and no matter how much i rev and drive un-economically, my distance to empty has never dropped below 650km i think. Thats why i would like him to provide some actual mileage calculations.

That range counter is never accurate and if I'm not mistaken, the car will light up once the tank has used up about 60 to 63L of fuel, meaning, there will always be petrol in the tank unless you really drive it dry. Even my car's range counter is not accurate, always show about 700km but end up I usually have to fill up at 600km or so with only 4L of fuel left in the tank tongue.gif

I think it's just the counter programming. If you ask me, I think the range difference between our cars is at most what? 5 to 10%? That's a realistic figure if driving style and road conditions are equal.

The range displayed is based on the previous tank's fuel consumption. Meaning that if u have driven un-economically in the last 300km or so, then the range on your next fuel up will be lower.

Also the range is not a preset value. Its drops are based on your driving style at that point. For instance, in my car, the Distance to Empty (DTE) gauge drops about 50km for every 100km actual travel at 110kmph. It only becomes 1 for 1 somewhere around 140-150kmph but this varies according to driving styles and road gradients.

I have never said that 2.5L Camry get only 580+ km range on a full tank.

BTW, the fuel tank's volume is 7L.

I need to check back the manual (if I got time) regarding the meaning of the term "cruising range".

Most user will praised a balance of good fuel efficiency and power like what Camry 2.5 had offered.

In 2.5V Camry, it will never light up, unless I choose to display it. Need to check the manual what this figure shows.

Never light up? You sure or not? When fuel tank nearly empty, if it don't light up then how to know if you nearing empty tank or not?
