You're right, I apologize for previous comment. smile.gif

So while you're waiting for tanjinjack's reply, I try to help answer some of your question.
1. Campus internet coverage does not cover TT5. The campus internet is fast and stable in my opinion. The computer labs are connect to the internet. The labs do get crowded during assignment period or exam period, but normal days, there shouldn't be a problem looking for a seat among the few computer rooms.

3. There's is a shop in campus which sells Digi SIM cards. iinm, you can buy SIM cards from the airport as well. Not sure about operator comparisons. I use Digi fyi.

4. Not many use tablets but most popular is iPad, but i doubt it's solely for educational purposes tongue.gif. I don't find tablets an asset in the environment here. A laptop is crucial but other than that, i don't see the need for tablets. Of course this is only according to my needs.

Hope I could help. biggrin.gif

Dear Zeuss, Very thanks for your helpful reply.
Just for fun, It's not bad to know that in my very very very liberal and democratic country - Iran, this website - lowyat.net - is filtered and I have to access to this website via VPN. smile.gif

Dear tanjinjack,
1. As we know, There is a free wireless internet coverage through the campus. Does this wireless network cover TTS5 or not? Are you satisfied of quality and speed of wireless network in the campus? Are computers in computer center connected to Internet? How about the crowd hours of Computer center?
2. I want to know about the maxis wired internet in the TTS5. How much is the download volume per month? IS there a socket in every room of buildings or it's accessible by WIFI access point?
3. Which operator do you suggest to get the sim card? Is there any shop in the TTS district who sell it or in the campus?
4. Could you describe the atmosphere of campus about using tablets by students for education purpose or ebook readers? Which brand is more common? Apple, Samsung, Kindle etc.
Thanks

No need to wait for my response la.. Hahaha.. Just adding some info in addition to Zeuss's response.
1. TTS5 not covered, but if you are under university-arranged accommodation, there will be hotspot (in the house itself of course) to connect to internet. That's only available for students who stay under the arranged off-campus accommodation. Well, just FYI only I suppose.
2. In TTS5, some have Maxis and some have TM. Not sure about the quota, at least we have never met it. You should be able to dig all these in Maxis's official website, assuming it's accessible in your country. WiFi coverage in the university is pretty decent, few dead spots though. I never use any RJ45 socket in the campus so I can't tell if it's available in every room. My guess is it is and it sometimes appears even in some funny locations.
3. Depends if you have friends there? I will suggest you to go for the more established one, Digi, Maxis and Celcom.
4. Tablets? For spoiled kids - at least that's my impression. No Kindle in Malaysia and you hardly see any Samsung tablets - they are not so easily distinguishable from the Apple, don't they? LOL LOL! I am not so sure about if the IT department has decent support on iOS devices or not. If I am not mistaken, you'll be using Moodle to access your online course material. For now, I see Windows 8 tablet to be the best tablets for Nottingham as a lot of services is tied to Microsoft, OWA for instance. But you don't see Win8 until October.

There is weekly buses to TESCO to buy groceries.
There is a restaurant in TTS. Depends on which TTS you stay in, you can either walk or take the bus. You also can order delivery from there, which takes ages to arrive so call earlier.

From TTS2 u can just walk there i guess. You can order deliver from that restaurant itself. Not sure about other food places like fast food chains, never order delivery from them before.

The weekly buses are from nottingham uni, you can take the bus to the uni first. If you are experienced enough, you might take the same bus to uni which goes to TESCO. From TESCO, the bus will return to TTS first.

last year i stayed in campus, so i usually eat there. But when i stayed in TTS for my first few month, i pack food from campus most of the time.
This year i'll be in TTS5, i'll be planning to cook and eat at home (definitely not all the time tongue.gif), since i'm staying with my friends.

Dear tanjinjack,
Thanks your your complementary response.
I have reserved a single room with shared bathroom (between 2 single room) in TTS5 by TTS management and services. I called to their office today but I couldn't get answer to some of my questions because of interference in the line. Hope you can help me.
1. Where is the office of this company? They have said it is in the Edu Square. Is this square in TTS5?
2. I have an Airasia ticket for 17th September but according to the academic calendar, this day is holiday. right? So, is their office open at that day?
3. I have transferred money to their account and fill out and signed the application form and sent to them. They don't reply the emails on time and sometimes at all. Just I asked them by phone and they said me that my room is reserved. Should I do other action or I can go to their office for getting the key?
Thanks

Well, welcome to Malaysia, and welcome to the University of Nottingham where you feel the shitty service of accommodation office. Never anyone I met say even a good word about it.
1. I am not sure if they have an office in Edu Square. Else, their office is in the on-campus halls, i.e. in Tioman Halls. I haven't dealt with them for the past 2 years and can't advise if they have changed their places or not. You'll need somebody else's input on that.
2. Nope, it's not open! But you may want to call to try if there is any special arrangement for you to take the key on that day from other personnel (like security guards) - although I think the shitty them won't give a shit about it.
3. Let them hate you, why do you care? Just call them, email them, until they are willing to reply. If you have paid, tell them to secure the room - not just reserved. Last thing you want is they gave away your room to others and they'll process refund (which is another shitty process to go through).

Anyway, rest assured that the bad stuff is confined within the accommodation office alone. On the academic end, things are pretty positive and I believe you can see the forumers here are satisfied and proud of the education.

IMPORTANT

Anyone wants to take over for V5 since we are just 300 posts away only? I don't think I should host it as I have graduated already - as much as I want to revamp the homepage though. Don't think anyone really cares about it at all!
Not really a rule, prefer those who have been in Nottingham for some time - at least more informative about various aspects about Nottingham.

Guys, what would be the best place in KL to buy a laptop..? Is there any specific mall or something I should go too, or is any electronics shop fine?

The accomodation office seems to really suck. Been over a month since I sent all my deposits for on campus accomodation, still havent received any receipt. Hopefully they havent given away my room to someone else and hopefully I get that damn receipt on time, otherwise dont know what to do.
