Hi friends,
1. I visited the Nottingham Univ website and i couldn't find the course Electrical Engineering - Control / Robotics. They don't offer this branch of Electrical Engineering?
If i apply for Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Can i focus on control or other branches in the third year?

2. I couldn't find any restaurant or food court etc in the campus according to the information in the website. I don't mean fast food. Why? I want to stay in the dormitory of univ.

Dear tanjinjack,
Maybe i asked questions which you don't have an exact answer for.
Could you guide me for choosing a type of room in on-campus dormitory?
Which type is most common among students? Single Ensuite Bathroom, Single Shared Ensuite Bathroom, Single Shared Bathroom in 5 Room or Double Decker Shared Ensuite Bathroom.
How about the air conditioner? Is it required certainly?
Is there a microwave, refrigerator etc in the Single Ensuite Bathroom type?
Thanks

Dear Mathew and tanjinjack,
Thank you so much for your useful points about rooms. smile.gif
Just some other questions:
1. How about the types of foods supplied in the cafeteria and cafe of admin building and their costs. Is there any food & beverage store within residence buildings?
2. How is the teaching atmosphere? Are there many active students in each class or like other students, it's normal? How about the quality of teaching and hardness of exams? How about the level of students' scores?

Dear tanjinjack,
Thanks for your reply. I'm from Iran so i think the Arabic cuisine is more close to our taste. Do you know students from Iran there?
Meanwhile, My course is Electrical Engineering. How about the level teaching in this course? You said not bad. but it can be meant "not very good". But when we pay a tuition very higher than other local universities, We expect more or at least at same level to local universities, Don't you? (Although we will receive a UK certificate).

Dear Mathew,
Thanks for your description about the cafeteria. Now i can imagine the situation of food in the university.
1. If someone passed the toefl test with enough score, I read in the university's website that there are classes and lecturer and adviser for improving English language Is that right? What's your idea about the level of language teaching in the main classes.
2. How is the quality of wireless internet on campus? How about the computer center and its equipments (in hardware and software)?
3. What about library and its books? Do you use ebook reader or paper books? how about other students?
Are the lecturers accessible online for advising?

Dear tanjinjack,
I don't know the common capacity of each course in the other universities in Malaysia and UK. But what is important is that less capacity leads to higher quality of education. Although my course is Electrical Engineering and Arcy didn't mentioned any thing about this course.
It seems that the Nottingham university has a distinct difference in aspect of education quality except its certificate and education system. I mean there are universities with much lower tuition and lower cost of accommodation like MMU and lecturers with same level of knowledge and experience.
Anyway it seems that i have to come to Nottingham because of its certificate and duration of bachelor degree.
My questions is for knowing the realities of this university. Just this.

1. Ability to graduate in 3 years as compared to 4. More flexible.
2. Tranquillity of the campus (which later transformed into remoteness though).
3. Slightly cheaper tuition fee, and also accommodation.

Dear tanjinjack,
Thanks for your reply but i mean more in aspect of education quality and academic reputation in Malaysia and abroad.

Dear tanjinjack,
1. As we know, There is a free wireless internet coverage through the campus. Does this wireless network cover TTS5 or not? Are you satisfied of quality and speed of wireless network in the campus? Are computers in computer center connected to Internet? How about the crowd hours of Computer center?
2. I want to know about the maxis wired internet in the TTS5. How much is the download volume per month? IS there a socket in every room of buildings or it's accessible by WIFI access point?
3. Which operator do you suggest to get the sim card? Is there any shop in the TTS district who sell it or in the campus?
4. Could you describe the atmosphere of campus about using tablets by students for education purpose or ebook readers? Which brand is more common? Apple, Samsung, Kindle etc.
Thanks

If you don't mind me asking, have you decided to join Nottingham or are you still considering other options? Either way, you shouldn't be worried about these kind of specifics. I've seen you asking extremely specific questions like this before. These question does not sound like factors in choosing an university. Anyways, this is just my 2 cents. I apologize if I'm wrong or I sound rude(which is not my intention smile.gif ).  icon_rolleyes.gif

Dear Zeuss,
Thanks for your comment. For your info, I have an offer for BEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Sept 2012) although I have another bachelor in Industrial Engineering. At the moment I have booked a single room in TTS5 and also a ticket for 16 Sept to KL.
As you said about quality of my questions, I check every thing before doing a work, Maybe it is because of my high age. Also I should say that I was thinking about an independent Forum with classified topics or Social Network for students and applicants. I offer this suggestion to Mr. tanjinjack, But he had some reasons for disagreeing with this idea although I think we can promote it by SEO techniques and it just takes time to be popular. But I respect to his idea which is based on his experience.
Internet and communication is the most important thing in today's life. We we arrive to Malaysia, Buying a sim card is one of the first thing that we should do. These exact questions can help other friends too.
So, my questions are not for deciding about choosing UNott.
Regards

You're right, I apologize for previous comment. smile.gif

So while you're waiting for tanjinjack's reply, I try to help answer some of your question.
1. Campus internet coverage does not cover TT5. The campus internet is fast and stable in my opinion. The computer labs are connect to the internet. The labs do get crowded during assignment period or exam period, but normal days, there shouldn't be a problem looking for a seat among the few computer rooms.

3. There's is a shop in campus which sells Digi SIM cards. iinm, you can buy SIM cards from the airport as well. Not sure about operator comparisons. I use Digi fyi.

4. Not many use tablets but most popular is iPad, but i doubt it's solely for educational purposes tongue.gif. I don't find tablets an asset in the environment here. A laptop is crucial but other than that, i don't see the need for tablets. Of course this is only according to my needs.

Hope I could help. biggrin.gif

Dear Zeuss, Very thanks for your helpful reply.
Just for fun, It's not bad to know that in my very very very liberal and democratic country - Iran, this website - lowyat.net - is filtered and I have to access to this website via VPN. smile.gif

Dear tanjinjack,
Thanks your your complementary response.
I have reserved a single room with shared bathroom (between 2 single room) in TTS5 by TTS management and services. I called to their office today but I couldn't get answer to some of my questions because of interference in the line. Hope you can help me.
1. Where is the office of this company? They have said it is in the Edu Square. Is this square in TTS5?
2. I have an Airasia ticket for 17th September but according to the academic calendar, this day is holiday. right? So, is their office open at that day?
3. I have transferred money to their account and fill out and signed the application form and sent to them. They don't reply the emails on time and sometimes at all. Just I asked them by phone and they said me that my room is reserved. Should I do other action or I can go to their office for getting the key?
Thanks

I received a reply from TTS Management and Services and a map of EDU SQUARE that shows the location of their office and the house that is reserved one of its room for me.
I suggest other friends to call them instead of sending email although I used both.
