It was not Nokia that was headed to trouble in February. It was you, Stephen Elop, and only you, with your delusions and utterly false memo, who created unnecessary panic inside Nokia. You fired the wrong people, you destroyed the wrong platforms, you sold the wrong assets, and you set the whole of Nokia on fire.

This could be the biggest mistake.
QT went to Digia (Nokia still investing in this)
Symbian went to Accenture
MeeGo DOA

Sure hope Elop's bet pays off..There's already growing unhappiness in Finland with what going on with Nokia.

Depending on the price I think this device will be worthy buy.
Decent spec(not great),almost all the functions & apps covered there will be some support from the Maemo/MeeGo community.
Compared to this when N900 was launched it didn't even have the USSD dialing support or root access!

I honestly think that N9 is a good device for both consumer & enthusiast. If only N950 planned to be sold....

Meego for smartphone segment losing support by Nokia is quite a huge thing putting into fact that Nokia is not going to sell off their portion of the Meego project to other players.

It's not doomed but it'll be very hard to recover at least for the handset version.
In order for the OS to become successful financially you need a good manufacturer support & carrier support. Now that the manufacturer support is gone the carriers won't show much enthusiasm on this platform.LG has shown interest in developing MeeGo phone but their brand is not strong enough to convince carriers.
Part of the reason WP7 sale is very bad in US is because of the carriers sort of boycotting WP7.Inconsistent decision by Microsoft and the upcoming Skype integration in WP7 is just pouring fuel fire.
Carriers hate Skype or any other internet voice/message application for simple reason : It'll hit hard their main 2 cashcow which are voice calls & sms.

At least in MeeGo it's perfectly possible to customize the OS according to carriers will.In WP7 Microsoft simply refuse carriers or manufacturers to modify the OS much.

Sometimes I wonder why Elop dead set on adopting WP7 as Nokia's primary platform.Initially Microsoft had to threated some manufacturer with lawsuit in order for them to release WP7 devices because major Windows Mobile manufacturers didn't have much confidence with the platform. Now the devices are released & the deal is done you can see some manufacturers like HTC is moving away to concentrate on Android alone.

Future of the MeeGo might be lying on the v1.3 release.

Microsoft should really change WP7's homescreen which looks like it was designed by a lazy student. Put a WP7 device next to an iPhone, an Android and MeeGo and the homescreen looks really dull.

I don't root for anything. Just for the sake of comparing them. I never used Maemo though.

Well, TBH, I find it quite attractive. Its refreshing, its simple yet gets the job done, its buttery smooth, and ingeniously designed!

p/s: Thats before Meego 1.2 Harmattan was launched laugh.gif

+1

The industrial design of Nokia is really godlike. Coupled with badass camera (Implying EDOF never exists...), tough as talk build quality and great cellular reception, these were seriously Nokia's strength.

Now, if only they didn't skimp on the innards rolleyes.gif

N9 battery not user-replacable right?
Knowing how much N900 users like to experiment with their device, if we do the same and face hang issues, we will be having a hard time to fix it.

Like on N900, we can remove the battery as a last resort when it comes to a complete standstill.
