(First off, i'm not really sure if here's the right place to ask abt my problem, so please don't flame me
Hey guys, i just got my unifi about 5 hours ago but problems started appearing since then. The background: You see, i did not know that unifi service is practically only useful if your desktop and your TV is located in the same area (i.e. close to one another) so that the LAN cable from the modem (provided by unifi) can reach both your desktop and TV at the same time. If, however, your desktop and TV are not in the same area (i.e. desktop situated upstairs and TV downstairs), you're essentially gonna have to spend some money fixing this problem. My dad ordered unifi both for the speed (i'm using VIP5) and for the TV channels that comes with the Set-Top Box (STB). I pretty much knew how the setup would be like, and was thinking that i could utilise wireless bridging between my old router (situated downstairs - as my TV is downstairs) and the new router provided by unifi (situated upstairs - since my computer is upstairs) so both routers could connect wirelessly. The plan was that by using wireless bridging, it would mean the STB would be situated downstairs with a router, receiving signals from the new modem upstairs, which provides internet connection to my computer upstairs. The problem: What dawned me hours ago was that the crappy router provided by unifi DOESN'T support wireless bridging! I went looking through the net and found out that the router provided (D-Link DIR-615) can be flashed with a custom firmware. But upon reading this website "http://unifi.athena.my", the author said that HyppTV will not function with a custom firmware. So with no more options to choose from, i could only painfully come-up with one final conclusion - Buy a very long LAN cable and do internal wiring from upstairs till downstairs, just for the sake of HyppTV, which was pretty much the reason why my dad applied for unifi. Any better suggestions anyone? (and sorry for the long post!) |

guys, i tried downloading some torrents.. the speed is seriously avg at 100kbps with all files combined. I tried downloading a single file but it still hovers around 100++ kbps
Hence, im wondering if a crappy router affects the speed? I'm currently using the RG-TMRND crap router... |

QUOTE(GameFr3ak @ Aug 10 2011, 11:27 AM) hey guys. You should try to ask TM to change it back to the Dlink 615 router using the latest firmware - I think 7.09???I've read the guides and articles of KLseet. Was looking to replace the crappy RG-TMRND router. I saw TP-Link TL-WR841N V7 and TP-Link TD-W8960N. Both priced at RM99 & RM139 respectively in lowyat Czone. Wanted to know what's the difference between the two, was it only the one with required custom firmware and the other without ? TM installed the crappy RG-TMRND router at my sister's home (same problem as reported everywhere) and she asked them to change it to the Dlink 615 router (with latest firmware) and they came back 1 week later to change without question asked. Now she is happy with her Unifi usign the orange Dlink 615. For myself, I changed it to the tplink router using KLseet's guide. Many thanks to KLseet (again). Rgds, Edmund Seet |

QUOTE(GameFr3ak @ Aug 11 2011, 01:07 AM) do you think that it affects the torrent speed by using the crappy RG-TMRND? I read something about some sucky routers doesnt have the ability for heavy 1000+ torrent connections.. what do you think ? the wireless is crappy.. if you're connecting via lan, it's working as usual with full speed.. and it depends on your seeder and/or peer of course.. if you're opening too much unnecessary connections, then yes, your speed will deteriorate further.. same as in normal life, if i give you too much task than you can handle, you're going to explode, same goes as your router in this case it will jammed or restart itself or something wierd.. |

QUOTE(GameFr3ak @ Aug 11 2011, 01:31 AM) Can anyone confirm that the default TM router is unable to handle multiple simultaneous connections? I've heeded advices that it might be my utorrent configs but I've optimized the bandwidth so not much unnecessary connections will be established. But this is what I've observed so far. 1 single file = 300-500kbps 3 files = avg 20-30 each = total approx 100kbps++ I've also tried direct downloading single file, the speed exceeded the speed limit (5m). So in my understanding, the router doesn't have any issues handling traffic from a single connection, but multiple simultaneous connections will deteriorates the download speed. I've calculated the proper speed that I should be getting. 5000kbps / 8% = 400kbps So the speed of a single file is proper and normal. But multiple downloads macam deteriorates the overall DL speed which is only 100kbps++ Any thoughts ? |
