In Malaysia not easy to survive unless you have connections. Think of Dato Fernandez and many others.

Moreso Lowyat.net fucntions as a microphone to hear the voice of the rakyat and to monitor what's the hot topic among Malaysians.

That's the sole main purpose of a "online public discussion forum".

It's not like what you said is not happening here. Just glance through the Kopitiam and Real World sections. There are plenty of them already to start with that once in a while bring up ridiculous topic of conversations.

It is through discussion forums that gamen comes to discover what the public has in mind and what they are up to.It functions as public PA system.

This is how they do it in countries like Iran, Saudi Arabia and even China. When someone stumble upon something new, he reports it in the public discussion forum and the next thing you now the Gamen comes to know.

Even in Thailand, they have this cybertroops who go round reading the net and report blogs/forums posting threads insulting their King.
