Hi guys, I have a friend who works for Yes and he showed me some tips to use the app.

One of the biggest issue i think most of us face is "if I give my number to a friend, what happens if the friend tries to call me when I'm offline?!".

The answer is to activate Call Forwarding which is by default activated for free for all customers. Forward calls when you are unavailable, busy or offline to your current operator. That way, people will always be able to reach you on your 018 number. Of course, you will be charged (9sen/min local) for the diverted call.

Although the official FAQ in Yes states that the feature is coming soon, it is actually ready (only thing is that the GUI on the app is not). Note that the customer care won't be able to help you since it's still not official though.

Anyway, to activate Call Forwarding, call *25 NUM# (e.g. *250162211800#) and to deactivate it simply call #25#. This is similar to the codes you find in GSM operators. Try it and see if it works for you!

Now you may ask, how then can I receive SMS while I'm offline? I can only suggest you install Yes Life for Windows/Mac and login at least once a day to retrieve all your messages. Or ask your friends to SMS you on your GSM number, since receiving SMS is free anyway.

Hope this helps! smile.gif

Good sharing, Thank you. I tried to forward to my maxis. The setting works but not the calls. IVR prompted me " the number that you call is currently not available bla bla bla......."

No roaming cost but you need to be in free wifi hotspot.
You can make outgoing voice calls upon finding a free wifi hotspot but you can't control when is incoming calls coming in. Receiving calls in overseas via YES 018 will not be feasible unless you want to remain static within a wifi range. Other common sense issues such as friends and family will still calling your GSM main line due to difficulty in establishing connection to your YES 018.

soooooo..... what is the exact point of YTL doing this when the app still needs an internet connection to do this? meaning iphone's 3G connection has to be on, non-3G ipad and ipod users need to stick to a wifi connection to use...

The whole point of this is to offer lower rate, and to me this service is exactly same as skype.

There are 2 different angles to look at it.
1) If you are not an existing subscriber of YES Wimax and you don't need mobile internet then don't bother to pay RM30 per month for the 018 number. It's just not worth it.
2) If you are an existing subscriber of YES Wimax and an iphone/ipad/ipod user then this is a good value added features for alternative voice account. You don't need to buy Skype pay as you go credit any more for calling home from overseas using wifi network.

For occasional calling home from overseas when travelling, Skype is the better choice because the Skype credit can last forever as long as you use it once every 180 days and also Skype is multi platforms. Another plus point for Skype is Skype to Skype is FREE and many friends and family on their Skype account during office hours whereas YES to YES is chargeable and non out of my list of contacts using it yet.

My point exactly, with apps like Skype and FaceTime, the question is how feasible is it to be using this YES service? Why spend money to make calls and SMS over the Internet and get charged for it at the same time? While I agree that YES may charge less but it is also only for under the same network is it not? Digi has plans for voice calls and SMS with really low prices as well. So why not continue using the network that you've already signed with rather than taking up another number that you would need to pay for? My motive is not to argue with YES or it's distributors but just want to know how is this service to be of good towards it's users.

I think everyone has a pretty good point, as basically its just another version of Skype except u don't need the other party to have Skype. Even if the party calls you, it will still be a local call. How to use it :

1. E.g. Celcom has a free 3G data roaming at RM 38 / day (unlimited) for some countries, which means you can leave it on all the time if you need someone to call you. Best part is you won't be charge for roaming or you can call out via Yes without worrying about international roaming charges. I'm sure other telcos has similar service for international 3G access.

2. Schedule the call times similar to Skype. Remember, even with Skype, you will need to be within Wi-Fi access. The only difference is the receiver need not have to have their laptops or 3G phones with them. Now I don't know how many users have Skype on their phones but I do know my gf & parents don't have them. Plus they won't have to pay any data charges (if via 3G) or have to be within wi-fi vicinity.

End of the day its up to you, but for me I am glad that this option exists though only contemplating whether to maintain the RM 30 per month line. Was thinking of changing number or re-sign up over and over again (because I not a frequent flyer), but I'm sure YTL would have thought some users may do so. They are still charging me for the pre-registered line I sign up though not activated yet.

Just test out YES life for IOS on
1.) WIFI- Able to received & make outgoing calls. Voice quality is pretty good.
2.) 3G- Tested both receiving and making calls with no problem.
I am able receive call when the app is running in background.
Pro- It is good for people to call me when i am oversea. And the caller just paid their local telco charges..
Cons- The plan is bad, as they allow carry forward of your un use credit with a catch.

ya'll need to remember that most non-techie people have no idea what the frack you are talking about.

Yes Life allows you to give them a 018 number to call you on, and you can receive that call on your iPod touch / iPad. got it?

or even receive the call on your iPhone4 which is on a data plan, so the entire call is on VOIP.

think about it, your grandma in Ulu Yam can call you without having to pay for a Mac / PC / iPod or anything smile.gif

Something to add on.Their support is pretty good and responsive. I called them using my iphone4 YES Life to ask about calling rate. In order to save my RM5 credit, they ask me to hang up and call me back. The rate as below

1.YES Life to nationwide RM 0.9cents +6 % gov tax
2. YES Life 018 to 018. RM 0.9 cents..

I forgot to ask YES Life to OVERSEA.. Will it be also 9 cents?I guest it should be as it is VOIP...

Do you reckon you would pay RM30 every month to maintain the YES Life 018 number for occasional overseas usage and domestic out going call/sms usage ?
