KUALA LUMPUR: YTL Communications Sdn Bhd, a unit of YTL Power Bhd, is confident that a big chunk of the Apple iPhone Operating System (iOS) device users in Malaysia will sign up for its Yes Life packages.
Currently, it estimated that there are some 300,000 iOS device users in the country, using popular gadgets such as the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
"An iOS user appreciates good quality data, and who else can provide good data in this country, but us? So, as far as I'm concerned, I would like my team to go all out and ensure that all Apple iOS device users are on our network," said chief executive officer Wing K. Lee after the launch of the Yes Life application here yesterday.
The company currently has some 200,000 subscribers, of which 60,000 are using Yes Life voice and data plan.
Currently, customers can use YTL Communications' services either via "pay per use" method, where voice call and data are charged at 9 sen a minute and 3 sen per megabit.
Under the Yes Life packages, customers can opt for the valuepack RM68, comprising 3.5 gigabit (GB) of data, 150 minutes of voice and 150 text messages; or they can opt for the valuepack RM150, which offers 10GB of data, 250 minutes of voice and 250 text messages.
Over the next few months, YTL Communications will be launching its packages for Android device users as the company continues its aggressive customer acquisition campaign.
The company will also be beefing up its retail and distribution presence.
Next month, it will officially launch its retail network in Johor, followed by Malacca, Ipoh and the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia.
YTL Communications has about 1,700 base stations throughout West Malaysia, covering more than 70 per cent of the population.
"We are on track to expand to 2,500 base stations by year end. It will be a challenging target. Six months ago, we had only 1,200 base stations, and today, we have 1,700. But this is what we do, we set ourselves a high bar, and hope that at the end of the day, we can over achieve," said Wing.

ATTENTION!!! This topic is about the Yes App for iPhone
Discussion is around the app and how well it works with the iPhone.
If you wish to know more about the Yes WiMax instead go to this thread : http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1505114
From no until 12 July 2011, you can download Yes Life for iOS and get 14-day trial with RM 5 credit. This will include a 018 number when you sign up as well.
Details on Yeslife : Yes Life Main Page
Yes homepage : Why Choose Yes?
FAQs for Yes Life : FAQ for Yes Life
Call rates : 9 sen / min
SMS rates : 9 sen / sms
I personally have downloaded the app and registered for another number and it works! The only caveat is you must be connected via Wi-Fi or 3G line and there will be data charges unless you are using Yes 4G network. What this means is that if you're subscribed to Celcom 3G and have the Yes Life app active via signing in, any calls to the 018 number will incur data charges from Celcom.
Personally, I'm going overseas next week, so all I need is a free Wi-Fi connection and I can call Malaysia at 9 sen / min - so long the person has a phone (no need Skype, Facetime, Yahoo Msg, BBchat, etc.). Also if I receive calls, it would be FOC! No roaming charges unless I'm using overseas 3G network.
Example of how it can work is if you're subscribed to iValue 1, and use up your Free Local Calls (up to 333 mins) you will then be charged 15 sen/min. However you can use Yes Life to make calls and only get charge 9 sen / min. Obviously need to further look into how much data the call will eat up (since iValue 1 has free 1GB of data) but nevertheless the idea of having another line on the iPhone is still too good to pass up.
Essentially, the iPhone now has dual sim cards!!!!!
Also the app works for iPad, Mac & PC as well but this devices must be connected to the Net to make the call. For iPhone, connection can be over the 3G mobile provider.
