You heard clear voice from the call receiver's end because the other end is using a gsm line. The problem is at the call receiver's end where our Voices are choppy.
*
Good point. If not mistaken the receiver can hear some choppy voice if they are on a non-3G line / network. I guess there's bound to be some statiic depending on connection.

QUOTE(BRY7 @ May 14 2011, 12:21 AM)
What's the difference with this and skype?
*
Skype needs both caller & receiver to have this app / program on their phone. YES only requires the caller to have this app install and he can make calls to any phone (irrespective of apps / model, etc).

As the matter of fact, I used skype to call back to Malaysia numbers and overseas local numbers when I was traveling. There is no need for the call receiver to instal anything on their phone. Just buy us10 skype credit and you are good to go.

For sure. What;s the rate like? For yes is 9 sen /min which means US 10 (RM 30) would equate to about 333 mins (6.5 hrs).

i'm sure both of you guys know that it's a similar service that Skype's Online Number is offering albeit, Skype currently does not offer a Malaysian number. It would've been sweet if they do tongue.gif

I've tried it myself and I find it pretty nifty. MYR 30 to compare with like EUR 10/25 is pretty cheap. Their service is good as of now. I might consider using it. Also, this is practically an essential app for overseas students or business persons/jet-setters.

if you have ip4, try use in your connection. See whether it's improve or not because ip4 has noise cancellation mic. i think your ipod & ipad don't have.

The call rates for skype r approx 6.5sen for fixed line and 21sen for mobile.
For mobile rate, YES win.
For fixed line rate, Skype win. There is a small one time connection fee though.
For monthly commitment, clearly Skype win big. Because the us10 credit is pay as you used whereas Yes must top up minimum us10 every month.

oh btw, I have both Skpye pay as you go credit and Yes Go dongle rm30/mth package for my mobile Internet needs.

Seriously, Dont be too excited over having virtual phone number, I have Yes 018 since Jan this year, it still rendered useless to me because those who know my 018 numbers hate calling my 018 because they get engage tone most of the time as compare to my primary maxis line.
One can never use virtual skype number and Yes 018 number as a primary mobile contact number because if you insist, you risk losing your gf who can't contact you during emergency.
I not saying Yes life 018 is totally useless, I just want to point out that it is not worth paying rm30 a month to maintain Yes life 018 if the main intention is to use it as incoming number.

Well, I think the choppy voice is most like due to signal lost rather than noise cancellation mic.

Few technical challenges you have to fulfill before you jump to the bandwagon
1 can you get 3G Internet coverage everywhere you go ?
2. How many days Can your phone battery standby 3G data connection ?
3. Can you bear with choppy 018 VoIP over 3G call quality ?
4. Can you roam internationally ?
5. Many more technical problems but I lazy to write Liao.

Here's an idea- I travel overseas quite a bit. If this works, it will work well for me.

I will divert my primary mobile number to the Yes Life, so incoming calls are free. I can call out with this so it's a local call.

I just need to register or buy a prepaid 3G data sim card when I am overseas.

Your primary line will be charged for diverting calls.

Unfortunately, YES Life 018 does not allow call forwarding in or out. The only DID number in Malaysia that can perform international call forwarding is Redtone SIPhony015. The SIPhony015 is given free without any monthly commitment.
http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=36684520
SIPhony015 is piggyback on GSM network thus your phone is on normal gsm standby not 3G data standby and you dont have to buy a more expensive data plan sim card, just need to buy a cheaper local GSM sim at the arrival airport.

My reply was genuine and sincere for discussion purposes only with no intention whatsoever to offend any one here.

yeslife(ios) does not has the ability to enable/disable supplementary voice services. Has anyone tried that in yeslife(desktop version)?

what i did was, borrow buzz from a friend of mine and login to my account. activate call forwarding and call waiting and all set.
when my yeslife(ios) was not logged on, incoming call to 018 was forwarded to maxis.

I guess everyone here would interpret their own usage and experience on Yes Life. Personally I think its great that the more competition happens we're all better off smile.gif

Anyway, I'll be overseas next week and the following month so gonna try the yes calls then (as well as receive). Like someone mentioned, its a great app to stay in touch without worrying about having the same app install across devices (eg Skype, Viber, etc.).
