Just downloaded and tested it. It works quite well but no intention to subscribe. Anyway, after the expiry, can I download / re-install and re-register again to get the free RM 5 credit when I am going overseas?

You can try that but your record and number will still be there. I pre-registered when YES first launched and I check that account is still active and being billed RM 30 every month even though I did not activate it. Now I also have this new YES telephone number which will probably run as well if I stop using the free connection.

If you want a permanent local Malaysian sip phone number account similar to YES Life but without the monthly commitment, get REDtone SIPhony 015.

Step 1
Download and install Linphone
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/linphone/id360065638?mt=8
user posted image

Step 2
Buy the REDtone SIPhony 015 here:
http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=1581565&hl=

The differences between YES Life and SIPhony015 are:
YES Life is zero upfront but need monthly RM30 minimum usage commitment.
REDtone SIPhony015 pay RM120 upfront (FREE RM40 preloaded airtime) but pay as you use for 1 year from your last topup (minimum topup is RM10). No monthly commitment.
YES 018 call YES 018 need to pay 9sen/min whereas SIPhony 015 call SIPhony 015 is FREE !
One powerful feature of SIPhony015 is that it can divert all voice calls bound to your main Malaysian phone line to your overseas prepaid number (if you buy one) thus avoiding the call receiving roaming charges.

hi all sifus,
i just started using YES Life because im overseas now with an all-you-can-eat 3g on my phone, so i activated the free account with rm5 to test it, it worked great yesterday. however when i tried today i cant make any calls, the calls just cancels automatically, but my friends can still call me at the 018 number. i tried to login to www.yes.my but apparently their server is busy.

anyone know why i cant make any calls? just wondering its their server or my phone because im planning to pay the rm50 to activate my number. thanks all !

Just got back from UK & France. Been using Yes Life (got a local unlimited 3G card there around 10 pounds), and it's been quite ok. Calls are clear (since 3G is quite good here), and can receive calls as well.

My opinion - good but to maintain every month. Need to think twice about that as I don't travel too much overseas. Unless of course can claim from company (since save company money smile.gif).

terry,

Which UK telco you bought the 3G sim card from ? It can be used in France with unlimited 3G data without kena the data roaming charge ? I know in UK there is a free prepaid sim call Lebara, just need to top up 5 pound and calls to Malaysia at 5p/min and free data 10mb/day.
I'm going to EU too.

For UK I use O2, which has free 500 MB unlimited 3G for a month. Of course can use for local calls since has 10 pound value. For France, I think I use Orange with similar program.

Best of all no need to register name or anything. Very fast get the prepaid sim card.

Good point.

Looks like not much users for Yes Life unless they subscribe the full 4G network. YTL needs to look into the commitment thing but my guess is they need a revenue stream. Either that or extend the RM 30 to a year would be better as not all of us travel overseas every month smile.gif

There is no mass revenue from these category of customers, their numbers are limited and they can't just give away their limited phone numbers to anyone without a promise of revenue or fixed ARPU.

Well I'm not a telco business expert, but I think I would like it from a consumer point of view if the line can be up to 1 year long. If not mistaken when I was in UK, there were some providers giving away prepaid cards with one payment but the connection lasts a year.

Hi,

To all who have tried yeslife during the promotional period (free RM5 credit), but have stopped using after that, you may want to check your account to see if it is still active.

I checked mine and found the account balance to be -RM88.96 (meaning I owe them money). I email them and was told that the amount is because they charge me the min of RM30/month. At the moment, my issue is still not resolved as they have not replied to confirm that my account has been cancelled an whether I still have to pay the balance amount (even though I did no use it)

I would advise everyone to go check their account soon.

err... I would advise you to check the status of your account.

I have negative balance (meaning I owe them money) because they continue charging a min of RM30 after the promotional period. I just sent an email to screw them for simply charging. Hope they can close my account immediately

Email them your details and tell them that you want to cancel you account effective immediately and that you are not going to pay the so called balance that you owe them for the period you did not use their service.

If they reply with a nonsense reply, just tell them you will report to MCMC, local media, etc.

So far, I got mine cancelled, a friend of mine and also someone in the iPad forum. Should be no prob for you. No need to threaten unless necessary XD
