YES.. but i am still enjoying RM 5 (14 days of expiry). After that up to YES want to retain me as their customer or not as i don't think i want to top up RM30 monthly in order for my acct to stay active.. Some more if i did not use the RM30, i can only carry forward RM 10 to the next month.. Again, what a bad plan by YES.

Yes plan works best for people who are also using their data services.
Perhaps you can think of getting a Go. You will then have a handy mobile internet device with up to 1GB worth of data per month. Or a Huddle for your WiFi devices. RM30 for 1GB beats my Maxis plan which is like RM18 for a miserable 100MB. |

I think it is good when u plan to travel oversea, so that people in Malaysia can call you on your 018 number and pay for local telco call charges rate only..And only 1 party ( YES 018) need to be online. That is all..

( this is impossible !) 2) He has to be static within a Wifi rage in order not to miss a call. (this also impossible) 3) He has to pay prohibitory high price for unlimited data roaming plan and need to carry/buy another wifi tethering devices for internet sharing with Ipod and Ipad wifi. ( this is doable but at a higher cost which defeat the purpose of his initial intention of FREE incoming voice calls overseas). 4) He has to make sure that the city he visited has strong 3G coverage, no blind spot if he pays dearly for a data plan. 5) What if he willing to pay and can fulfilled conditions No.3 and 4 but his friends and family still call his primary GSM number ? Back to square one again. .... 6) Psychologically, friends and family members will not be happy to call an always inactive, sometimes on, sometimes off secondary phone number. 7) As for out going call over wifi network, it is a good feature but "Skype Pay As You Go"can do that too without monthly RM30 commitment. QUOTE(aeiou228 @ May 20 2011, 04:26 PM) Yes I do agree it is good for incoming call when traveling oversea.....but only in theory. As I said before, depends on how best the user wants to use this service. I'm in Shanghai, China now and have called back and receive calls on both Wi-Fi and 3G networks (Celcom 3G - roaming). Voice quality is pretty alright and minimal lag is heard. In real life situation, when one arrived at overseas, he has to fulfill the following requirements in order to make full use of YES Life 018 incoming call feature. 1) He has to make sure that all his contacts call his new YES life 018 number instead of his old primary GSM number. As I said before, the calls were planned so I am not on standby all the time. If someone wants to get me on my holiday, I'd switched them off (normally they'd e-mail me and I'd reply - cheaper that way). Not sure bout friends and family being unhappy but I was just talking to my relative and they seem pretty ok I'll be away again for 10 days in Europe early next month so gonna top up RM 30 for 1 more month service. However, I think I won't maintain after that coz I wont be travelling much after that so its a waste to keep it on (though I like the number). Guess what, when I was at the LCCT, there was a provider offering me RM 10 / day for unlimited overseas calls (both receive and call out) but using the forwarding mechanic. The other caveat - must find get a local number and they'll do all the forwarding. Looks like there are many plans on overseas calls this days. |

No doubt, it is for the convenience of the caller (perhaps your wife) to call you when your YES 018 are WIFI connected during oversea trip..As, the caller just dial from her mobile phone anytime ANYWHERE.. Of course you have to send her an SMS saying "call me now".. Otherwise, how she know you are connected to WIFI..This scenario is very realistic.. Same thing if you are using skype oversea, and u found out that she is not on Skype. You will also probably SMS her to go online rite? If this is the case, then YES 018 wins out..

I would say YES wins out to a certain extent that the opposite party just needs his mobile or land line and dont need to lug a Skype-installed appliance (or even Yahoo msg, Gmail chat, etc). Nowadays as long as both parties as got some version of software, they can chat or video call each other (remember all IM programs usually includes Video Chat this days). The benefit of YES is you don't need this and you pay local rate. Skype also allows calls but the rate is more expensive. |

I'm talking on a broader perspective. YES Life 018 out going call is no doubt a good feature on iDevices but not the incoming call feature. Since YES lIfe 018 can never be one's primary phone number due to wifi limitation therefore it will hardly receive any incoming call from the contacts list. The contacts will continue to call the primary number in order to get flawless instant connection. And when one don't expect any incoming call coming to his YES Life 018, why would he want to pay expensive data roaming package to enable incoming call standby for YES Life 018 (when over sea)? When one is overseas and is within a AP range, why waste RM1 or RM2 roaming sms each to get some one to call back just because he is ready to receive calls ? Worse still if the 1st sms sent but half and hour later still no call back and he is waiting in vain at the Shanghai Starbulk Cafe. Why not just use the YES 018 or Skype to call back straight away ? By the way, I noted terryfu repeatedly commented in the previous post that Skype calls must needs both caller and receiver to have Skype installed on their respective devices in order to make call over IP. This is not true because similar to YES Life, Skype can also call any Malaysian land lines and mobile lines. Just buy US10 (RM30) "Pay As You Go" credit and you can call any Malaysia fixed line at 7sen and mobile lines at 21sen per minute. Though the Malaysia call rates are somewhat more expensive than YES 018 rates but the never expired Skype credit just too good for the YES 018 that needs monthly RM30 to keep up with. If one is currently using YES Wimax internet plan which comes with free YES Life 018, then different lah.... This post has been edited by aeiou228: May 25 2011, 07:52 PM |

I've myself tested the Yes Life on my iPhone 4 only on Full Signal 3G.
The call get disconnected and the quality is so - so even on 3G Full Signal. I've also tested on WIFI, on WIFI the Quality is very good. And no delay on either party. IMO, this is very useful when you're travelling and the Hotel there have a good WIFI service. And, if you're travelling I think our family and friend will be notified through Facebook and therefore they will not try to contact us by phone. So, no problem on missing a call. I'll be going to India next week. I'll update as I try to call my GF from there using this YES Life App and Line... Cheers.. |

One other way to best use this is to get those daily / weekly unlimited 3G sim cards when in a foreign country (could be cheap sometimes i think) and just use YES to connect all the time. Obviously if the calls are gonna be a lot, then it makes sense. End of the day its up to us how best to use whatever available telco / VOIP services available and I for one am happy such an option exists. I also have Skype and all the IM programs in my phone as well so its nice to know i can be connected in many ways with many options |

Just to share.. I am using voipcheap.com for this purposes.. lowest rate, and upon reload with 10 EURO. I can get 90 days FREE calls to many destined country... you can use this app in app store "MobileVoip" and configure your voipcheap.com acct.. Now, i have another alternative which is YES 018.. But, overall voipcheap is still the best for me and perhaps those who want to call homes from oversea..

i thought it's suppose to be if u use their pre-paid card, then u will get to use their 4G connection instead of our own service provider which is either 3G, EDGE, or perhaps wireless network?

Well i suppose staying oversea for around 1 month is not enough for me to get the oversea prepair sim/line.
I'm just aiming to not register any no. There and also not activate roaming. For me, nowadays free wifi is typically everyway unless i go to forest or some remote location. So lemme test yes life while i'm there and i'll decide whether i want to register for oversea prepaid.. |

Sometimes, it's worth to get oversea prepaid sim even though you'll stay there for a short period. All you need is do a research before you go there, compare all telco's offers & calculate how much you'll use it.
Not all places have a free wifi especially when your trip require a lot of travelling. |
