My friend got a 900B recently and we ripped a few of my 3D BDs to try out the player. It would play smoothly in the beginning but would show signs of instability after a while - we can't use FF or next, else the whole movie will stop and go back to the top menu, for some files, it will not be able to continue after playing for 10-20 minutes, then it just stops entirely.

There is also audio decoding issue - we just connected the player to Samsung 55D6400 3D TV (before that I connect the TV with HDXBD1, no problem producing sound when the audio is HD) - when the movie is on DTSMA - there is simply no sound (cannot downsample to DTS stereo may be?), have no chance to test TrueHD. The ripped discs are all in BDMV format, perhaps making it as ISO can help a bit?

Install the latest beta and had no problem with m2ts and iso format. It's a much better player than xtreamer (1st version) as it can stream through network without stutter (it show 100mbps which shouold be good for any blu-ray ISO).Another plus is 3D blu-ray support. Still need some polish on the firmware as the interface is quite plain.
Problem now is everytime it try to access online video, it automatically download previous stable version.

Anyone else having problem with the HiMedia 900A? Mine is dead after less than 2 weeks of light duty. Quite disappointed with it. Going back to my WDTV Live and I notice that the WDTV Live is still so much faster as compare to the 1186 realtek chipset. Navigating the menu on the old WDTV Live feels a lot faster although the processor is much slower. Hmmm...what is wrong with this 1186 chipset? Ane more thing is that the HIMedia could not playback many files for eg. the mov files from my Canon Dslr camera, ts files while they play flawlessly on the WDTV Live.

but thought the video experiences is the most important for each chipset?
bcos bigger video file size and required better processor to read the file efficiencent, otherwise the video experience will be bad due to the bottle neck...

seem like u comparing iOS and Android as iOS have smoother user interface but not for Android...
but still Android still the famous OS due to his compatibility on different handphone and software...

anyway, i look on AC Ryan HD2 Mini (1185DD+) too...
wondering is it worth to go for it if compare to Himedia 900A (1186DD+)...

But but my old WDTV LIVE already can playback all the highest bitrate BD files thrown at it. The reason I go for the 900A is because I wanted to try out the master audio thing.

Added on January 1, 2012, 11:48 amWhat about canon Dlsr movie files. It still lags like hell. Still cannot playback .ts !!! All this playback smooth on my old WDTV LIVE.

No media player was perfect.. My Dune HD D1 also can't pass thorugh some audio to my VSX-919, some ts file was without sound but when played at HiMedia R1055 chipset based HD200A, it can played well. I guess it's just the firmware for HD900A not at its best yet

Tested all different type of TS file yet such as movie file?

bcos i tried to play 1.5gb @ 6min and 40gb @ 120min,no issues on my Realtek 1055 chipset. But i got a problem on 1 TS file that imbalance volume on left and right speaker if the audio output as LPCM,updated firmware no improvement as well.at last i try change audio ouput as RAW and solved the problem.

Anyway, each video file got it own video format,i tried to rip a VCD into AVI file with high compressed video format but my R1055 cant read it.later i change to other video format but still AVI file,no issues to play.

What i means here that the canon camera or other devices have it own standard which doesnt compatible with realtek chipset.

Yah..i know what you mean. This realtek 1186 chipset still very problematic now and until they fix most of the problem with driver updates, you are better of with more matured player.

I hardly have any problem with my media files with my old media player and then I upgrade to 900A only to run into all these problems. So for those who are looking to upgrade, you might want to wait till the firmware improves.

I haven't try those updates yet because I am currently away from home. However those fixes listed did not address any of the problem I encounter.

I believe its a firmware issue and not the chipset. It should get better but for now the 1185 should be better as most of the bugs have been iron out.

perhaps try update 1st with latest as 1186 firmware may fine tuned which ur problems just a tiny issues for them to post out the improvement...
but 1185 doesnt support 3D but i got 3D TV here... but seem a bit waist... sweat.gif

perhaps i still can run the 3D source on 1185?
but i assign my 3D TV will do the regeneration of 3D sources for top-down or left-right...
so is it possible?

1186 supports 3D BDMV, but you can still playback 3D contents using the 1185 and even the WDTV Live. Those SBS mkv can all be playback on most media player. My brother is using the WDTV Live for all his 3D SBS movies on his LG cinema 3D LED TV.

Point is you don't need 1186 to enjoy 3D.

Himedia 900b user here.

The pros:
3D BDMV / ISO playback works for most if not all the time. If it doesnt work, its most probably due to wrong encoding and/or require firmware update. File copying made easy with USB slave port and also through direct SATA connection. Extremely easy to remove / install hard disk. Custom firmware has just started not long ago with YAMJ coming real soon, check Futeko forum.

The cons:
Had never been able to view the BD lite menu even with numerous settings. Certain audio decoding can have too much echo (so far encountered with MKV file with AAC audio), again it usually firmware issue (same video plays fine on PC). Menu GUI cannot compare with AC Ryan or WD TV; very simple and straight forward design.

1185 vs 1186 - For direct no nonsense 3D playback on TV, 1186 is better else gotta make sure video file is encoded with SBS 3D method for the 1185.

tried with latest firmware to solve the audio echo issues?

anyway, i dont mind about the GUI since i not "watching" the GUI...
the movie experience is the most important such as picture quality, audio clarity and video lag-free.. smile.gif
