Terrarium 1.8.0 already uploaded in the OneDrive, you are right official Terrarium has the ads, 1.7.1 is the hacked version which is ads free. The logic very simple, the Terrarium developer did this for free, he/she need the ads to continue sustain. The app will be shutdown soon if the developer has no income to support the service.

I actually dont mind the ads unless they are excessive, can even hang the app frequently.

Terrrarium and mobdro with ads, very ok. biggrin.gif

Hi, was just wondering if anyone has used the H8 Plus and how does it compare with the Q10 Pro? Thinking of getting either one, H8 has Octacore CPU while Q10 Pro can now have Android 7. Opinions?

AFAIK...

.. both are 2/16gb.
.. H8+ uses rockchip, android5.1; Q10pro uses hisilicon, 7.0.
.. H8+ does not have imprex2 engine
.. not sure, please check... H8+ can't do 10bit, HDR.

basically, if u r not playing back the highest grades videos thru home theater, save RM200, get H8+.

but if u hv a 4k/10bit/HDR tv, compatible home theater and do a lot of high grade video playback, u want the Q10pro.

popular android apps for online streaming... i say no difference.

Also, if don’t use Hard Disk internally, can opt for Q5pro juga

Thanks a lot of this. I just thought that since Q10 pro uses Android 7.1 it's more future proof. I mainly use Kodi though and now my Mibox mini is really starting to slow down. I don't have many apps installed, just the basic stuff.

Would the Octacore on the H8+ mean it's faster in performance than Q10pro ie. no slowdowns in launching apps, less lag, etc.?

The Q10 Pro is more future proof.. Since your primary need is Kodi, must stay away from rockchip devices.. Kodi and Rockchip devices at the moment don't mix. Also, HiMedia devices and Kodi, expect hiccups.. Get a Minix instead. Very Kodi friendly.

i do not think octa core in h8+ is "faster" for what u use.

Q10pro is fast, no worries about that.

the best feature is the native player which is excellent for playback incl a full BD menu (beta version).

(native players means no need other player like mx, vlc, kodi - this itself is very fast compared to using other player apps.)

i do not know mibox, which model, but i can understand what u mean reading what other users say.

lastly, if buying himedia, stick to current popular models like H8+, Q5pro and Q10pro.

for the simple reason of getting future firmware updates easily.

other models, there are A5 (amlogic) and Q30 (hisilicon) available now but are much less popular.

Thanks for that, I read about the Minix too. It is really only boils down to these few choices.

Hmmm, I never considered their native players. I use Kodi and all its video add ons to stream from the web. Would the native player be able to do that?

And there are others in my family that would need to stream HK and china movies and series. They mainly use Qstation for that.

the native player is primarily used for local playback, i.e. yr own files.
if u do that a lot, it is a feature u will like - great video and audio output quality esp with big files and home theater.

for kodi/addon streaming, most boxes will use the kodi player.
in the case of q10pro, u can use either the kodi player or the native player via a wrapper.
but since this is online streaming subject to the stream quality, the difference is minimal.

i do not know this Qstation, but like any decent android box, it can take just about any app incl chinese ones.
if u know some of them - mangotv, moli, cibn... and icdrama using rss feeder.

i also am not using kodi much anymore as there are now simpler, faster and more reliable standalone apps to stream anything.
terrarium, icdrama rss, moli can take care of all english and chinese vod.
new cloudtv, live lounge, redbox, mobdro can provide all live tv stuff.

u notice the prices of android boxes, say 2/16gb... some are priced rm300, some are rm500-600.
they are not and cannot be the same - for both local payback and online streaming.
the higher priced ones will have, better codecs, better firmware, better support, better wifi coverage, etc.
and advanced features like autoframe switching, bluray menu, dd atmos/dtsx audio handling, networking options.

i hv not used cheap boxes before, so i do not really know how troublesome they can be.

for me Native player is a must.. the more native app the better..

if just purpose of watching drama/movie normal android box is enuf.. but then if have good TV and sound system.. then for sure u have good source of movie/drama (bluray)... for instance I love to watch Netfilx 4K via native app compare to Iflix in media box..since the quality differ a lot in term of visual and audio...

still.. everyone has the own taste in enjoying their favorite movie/drama biggrin.gif

As pointed out, the native player is good. You just won't get the ease and UI that Kodi offers.

Yep, With the likes of Netflix, the Smart TV app should offer FHD or UHD (+HDR).. One won't get such on external media devices unless certified by Netflix.

i think those who look for native player are those who started with pure media players 8-10 years ago, like me! biggrin.gif

the ac ryans, the wd live's...

for them, it is strange why a box does NOT have its own native player!!

becos it should be a basic thing, something that is fast, quick and easy to use whenever u plug in yr HDD.

then again, as u pointed out, diff people watch/listen in diff ways.

some don't care about audio; some can't tell diff between SD and HD; some haven't tried anything else, anything will do...

whereas some do not watch SD anymore; some insist on DTSHDMA/DDtrueHD audio for movies.

i am one of those who do not watch SD anymore; even for TV series, i go for 1080p Dolby Digital Plus, if not UHD 4k like those some from Netflix.

I use Q10pro as native player biggrin.gif

I don't do streaming...at all innocent.gif

From what I can observe...Q10pro vs older Q3ii and an even older "forgot name" player....I can say Q10pro (Imprex 2.0) > Q3ii (Hisilicon) > what-his-name (Realtek or whta it is I can't seem to remember biggrin.gif )

As someone very particular on picture quality (I used to own a Bluray player..but found buying Bluray is a chore+storage space+Cinavia " innocent.gif " issue...so not for me blush.gif ) I would say go for Q5pro/Q10pro.

What made me to go for himedia boxes is the day I tried plugging my HDD into the Unifi set top box (HiSilicon) and I saw the difference in pciture quality straight away...no turning back after that.

My two cents rolleyes.gif
