It will only get harder to get good high quality files, so have to keep the good ones for the future. Sometime in the future it will be harder or not possible to get them.

yes, please share yr findings.

as someone who would have used himedia, minix and shield, that will be valuable.

since most people say "shield is the best!"..??! biggrin.gif

in my mind, shield is certainly the most expensive, by far... but is it the best? for me?
4k, HDR... yes, still rare but i notice more coming now.

i recently junked 2TB of old 720/1080p for BDMV, better ones with dtshdma/ddtruehd.

looks like i will hv to do more of the same, junk some more 1080p, replace with 4k HDR! laugh.gif
*
Shield has the best compatibility but from forum, the shield's pq is not really impressive especially when it comes to HDR and 4K. some of the AVS forum members are getting better PQ using media boxes like Himedia and Egreat. I have not tested it and also very interested to know the result.

Cannot... Emo-mental contract with current vehicle is almost up. I could probably stretch it about a year tops. With every high cost purchase I always have a certain amount of years I expect to use it before considering new tech.. Tech always gets better each year, so it's buy and close eyes and ears to talk about new tech afterwards. Still have at least 2 years before I give out or move the current TV, HT, etc to the bedroom and replace with shiny new toys.. Gotta to have a proper AVR + 12TB NAS Storage this time.. brows.gif.. Car budget will bust if I splurge on that now. sweat.gif

QUOTE(jdgobio @ Oct 11 2017, 09:36 AM)
Oled prices are not gonna come down by much anytime soon. Its still worth it to get it now. I am planning to jump in next year when the new model from LG comes in.
*
Sadly, you may be right.. No worries.. I've got some time.. Just don't want to be an early adopter and pay super premium price for something better to come along and cheaper too.. Happened with current 1080p purchase.. Meh, water under the bridge.. biggrin.gif

Something not right with yr firmware.
Likely need to reinstall last frmware and google patch.
Q5ii still good for many things.
But not 4k, hdr, hdr.

Consider current q5pro or q10pro.
Read last 10 pages...

Hi AVFAN,

Thanks for the feedback. My chinese reading is not so good, can you recommend where to find the last good firmware patch for q5ii (non-emmc)?

I'm afraid later I flash it back, my google playstore is gone......

yr box q5ii non-emmc is >5 years old.

i hv one still in use, mainly for playback.

the last firmware is 1.0.9 non-emmc.

need appropriate google patch to get google, youtube, chrome.

some sellers still have them; u can try to contact yr seller, if u can.

himedia website doesn't hv it becos this was a "china" version box, not for int'l market.

The Q10 Pro is more future proof.. Since your primary need is Kodi, must stay away from rockchip devices.. Kodi and Rockchip devices at the moment don't mix. Also, HiMedia devices and Kodi, expect hiccups.. Get a Minix instead. Very Kodi friendly.

hey bro, can i know what sorts of hiccups we will face if using himedia and kodi?
thanks

Hi guys,

Need advice/help.
I'm using Q10 Pro with latest firmware.
Device connected to the internet via wifi.
But when i opened YouTube, Kodi & GooglePlay, seems that i can't access any content.
I've tried connect/disconnect thingy, but doesn't work.
Is there anyway in the setting that i should look for?

Thank you.

Sounds like it has lost connection.

Go to settings, more, wifi and check if turned on and connected.

Which firmware are you guys using for Q10pro?

If i remember correctly, there is the official version and then there are the unofficial versions?

I'm currently with the latest official version (can't remember which version) updated sometime a few months back.

AFAIK, Having to deal with the Kodi wrapper (piece of additional software to assist the Kodi app), potential crashes/hangs and audio passthrough issues.. I also vaguely remember some comment about loading srt files saved alongside the video file.
