but found the kodi.apk in /etc

this one is a backup apk. can delete also.

if not, it will sit just there next to yr next version after installation.

the one causing the trouble is the org.xbmc.kodi.

Well, its kinda impossible to remove system apps without first rooting the firmware. That's pretty much the main reason we root devices... Gain finer controls, etc... I've done some searching around and can't seem to find any English site detailing a safe install or rooting process. Like you reported... Sorry, in the spirit of progress, might be time for a hardware upgrade.

P.S. For the next box, best to stick to well documented & supported boxes, that can be rooted and unrooted at will. Nothing less.

but with tight pocket, it is not an option to upgrade to a newer box whenever we hit the obstacles. cry.gif

Did stumble across that site and downloaded the first file... The downloaded file i got was just 1.41MB... A quick Bitdefender and Malwarebytes scan later for viruses and malware shows the file's clean.. But I expect full firmware' to be bigger. So I'm guessing this is simply a zip file containing SuperSU and rooting parameters.. That's quite normal in certain cases... So try it and let's see how it goes.

Edit: Did Food Network's Addon work on the Helix?

I believe he mentioned something earlier about compatibility issues when he tries to install Jarvis over the Helix version... Says, he gets freezes, etc and is forced to revert to the pre-installed KODI Helix.. I'm perplexed myself too... Makes me wonder why HiMedia...?... chose to make the official KODI a system app rather than a user-replaceable one as normal.

i have jarvis on my q16 (2 yr old). nothing unusual. i was playing with other versions, in custom built ones. unimpressed, i removed everything (the way i decribed to you), reinstalled from playstore.

no la... "preinstalled" = installed by seller la! biggrin.gif

himedia don't do that since they have no partnership with kodi like minix.

was able to root my box using the zip file from the vietnam site.
able to search the kodi folder, and deleting it. no backup though. forgot to do backup. tongue.gif
now uninstalling the kodi, reboot, seems its gone already.
rebooting for second time to double confirm.
next step to install new kodi from the playstore.

just as suspected, now the jarvis working smoothly than helix, and no hiccups, no freeze whatsoever after removing the preinstalled kodi helix.

so for anyone who wants to root their HiMedia box.
just download this SU file.
place it on your usb root folder
on HiMedia settings:
> upgrade firmware
> select local
> select USB drive (should be D)
it will auto reboot.
once it done reboot, check program apps, if there is SU apps, then your box is now rooted.
have fun!!

just a reminder on imgotv or mango tv.

there should be an auto update to version 4.7.17.

update is auto for q16, q5ii, not sure for h8.

this version is good.

you get good stuff, incl "vip - free", in 720p hd. rclxms.gif
