yeah, but the main issue is, i'm stuck with the preinstalled Helix.
i try to google around, but I dont know how to remove the preinstalled one.
No matter how I delete, uninstall, clear data, and everything, after reboot, the preinstalled Kodi will still be there.
i believe this device already rooted, 4.2.2.
*
i doubt the "preinstalled" kodi is permanent.

uninstall, clear data... u did this at settings, right?

you still have to get into the storage and get rid of a folder named org.xbmc.kodi.

u can do that with es file explorer->home->android->data. that folder is there.

don't forget to "show hidden files" under "tools" first!

i must have dumped a dozen versions of xbmc/kodi in the last 2 yrs. biggrin.gif

implied in this is... if u have a kodi version with all your addons that is working well, save a copy of that kodi and org.xbmc.kodi. you can reinstall that wholesale anytime on ANY similar box. wink.gif

this one is a backup apk. can delete also.

if not, it will sit just there next to yr next version after installation.

the one causing the trouble is the org.xbmc.kodi.

Well, its kinda impossible to remove system apps without first rooting the firmware. That's pretty much the main reason we root devices... Gain finer controls, etc... I've done some searching around and can't seem to find any English site detailing a safe install or rooting process. Like you reported... Sorry, in the spirit of progress, might be time for a hardware upgrade.

P.S. For the next box, best to stick to well documented & supported boxes, that can be rooted and unrooted at will. Nothing less.

kinda agreed.
but with tight pocket, it is not an option to upgrade to a newer box whenever we hit the obstacles. cry.gif

Did stumble across that site and downloaded the first file... The downloaded file i got was just 1.41MB... A quick Bitdefender and Malwarebytes scan later for viruses and malware shows the file's clean.. But I expect full firmware' to be bigger. So I'm guessing this is simply a zip file containing SuperSU and rooting parameters.. That's quite normal in certain cases... So try it and let's see how it goes.

Edit: Did Food Network's Addon work on the Helix?

I believe he mentioned something earlier about compatibility issues when he tries to install Jarvis over the Helix version... Says, he gets freezes, etc and is forced to revert to the pre-installed KODI Helix.. I'm perplexed myself too... Makes me wonder why HiMedia...?... chose to make the official KODI a system app rather than a user-replaceable one as normal.

i have jarvis on my q16 (2 yr old). nothing unusual. i was playing with other versions, in custom built ones. unimpressed, i removed everything (the way i decribed to you), reinstalled from playstore.

no la... "preinstalled" = installed by seller la! biggrin.gif

himedia don't do that since they have no partnership with kodi like minix.

the food network addon does not work on Helix.
incomptible requirement error.
