my old Alpine is dying sad.gif
CD still plays fine, but radio often blacks out for no reason. need to off the player for a few mins and on again only it'll restart sad.gif

anyway what i loved about the alpine is the sound quality, esp when playing cds. now if i need to get a replacement HU, what is the best SQ type HU for a budget of about RM300-500?

or within that budget, all SQ is same, just difference in features? sad.gif
thanks! smile.gif

in that price range, i believe P will be a good choice.

Seems like the only options i have are:

Pioneer DEH-5350UB
Alpine CDE-121E
Pioneer DEH-6350SD

I shouldnt even consider Sony right?
Anyway, what would be a good option in terms of SQ? Any other brands? sad.gif

My previous HU is CDE-7871E which is now almost dead
My current components are Boston Acoustic SL60
My car is Saga BLM stock condition with no soundproofing

My future low budget plans include:
- Damping the front 2 doors
- Add an old skool Proton CA-260 2 channel 120watt RMS amp
- Adding an underseat sub

With this in mind, can anyone suggest what kind of HU i should go for?

Thanks in advance guys ^^

9855 is the last of the last generation of Alpines which were known to be bright sounding. I personally like the 9855 over the 9887 which is a little more refined and you could say pioneer-ish. Both have their pros and cons. I personally choose the 9855.

Thanks for the answer smile.gif

Of both HUs, which one has more 'warm' sounding tendency?
My Bostons now a little on the bright side, was looking to taming it abit

OK thanks for the suggestions smile.gif
I think i'll go for the Pioneer, though i find the alpine much better looking =.=

5350 looks very plain and boring
6350 looks too funky and futuristic
the alpine 121e looks just nice, subtle but nice

but sound is more important i guess, morever the 6350 have 3x 4V preouts, so i guess that'll be handy in future when i upgrade

thanks all! notworthy.gif

pioneer is typically warmer than alpine. so if you want to tame harsh tweeters, pioneer would be a better choice.

that said, i do agree and find alpine designs better though tongue.gif

Hi all, still new to this ICE stuff, starting from a stock BLM audio setup, what should I improve first? What is the first thing to do in this scenario, if going for SQ?

Okay nice thanks, what would be a good HU to start with, say a budget of around rm700?

Also, should I change just one component at a time, or try to upgrade multiple things at once with my limited budget? Which would be more effective?

if got budget, of course everything 1 shot would be nice. if no budget, no choice but to go 1 thing at a time. it has its benefits doing so, as you'll understand better what component that you upgrade does what, and doing so you will also understand what you need better.

DSP? Not needed as it has 2 RCA out. The tube version of this player is a little too warm for my liking and this is brilliantly bright and crisp. Just nice for my type of music.

erm..then means u only play 2 way passive front stage + sub, without any digital processing such as TA, EQ and etc rite? or u have ur own ext. eq/proc/e. x-over for tuning purpose?
