Does anyone holding HLB's I'm Card?
HLB claimed no overseas conversion charge by the bank as below: QUOTE 4. Overseas Transaction Fee Transaction in Foreign Currency - The transaction in foreign currency shall be converted at the foreign exchange rate and spread, if any, as determined by MasterCard International. There will not be any mark-up imposed by the Bank. |

QUOTE(wayn3san @ Jun 11 2015, 12:04 PM) Hi All, AMEX is still the best based on my observations.I have Maybank 2 cards , Master and AMEX. Can i know which is the best card to use in Europe as i know Amex charges extra 2.5% for currency exchange. Tq By the way, anyone has the new Hong Leong Bank I'm MasterCard ? This card doesn't have overseas transaction mark-up. Would be interesting to see if the final converted rate is indeed lower than other banks' credit cards. |

HSBC AMANAH Mpower Platinum
Transaction Date: 14-Jun-2015 Posting Date: 17-Jun-2015 Transaction amount: JPY 8640 Amount charged: RM226.24 visa rate : 1 JPY = 0.030496 MYR Effective rate: 1000 JPY = 31.11MYR Difference: 2.00% HSBC Mpower comes with 1% unlimited Foreign transaction rebate for year 2015. Thus, The effective bank rate is 0.98% Effective rate (including 1% cash reabte) 1000 JPY = 30.794 MYR Throughout my stay in Japan, I swiped HSBC exclusively from 7th June till 19th June (more than 10 swipes), all the bank fees comes up to 2.00% - 2.01%, and after accounting for the 1% rebate, the effective rate charged by HSBC is 0.98%-0.99% Side note: I did a JPY cash withdrawal at CITIBANK as they provide free overseas withdrawal on the 17th of June. The rate was RM307.65 = 10000 JPY. This means that the fees charged by HSBC, after the 1% rebate is pretty competitive, since CITIBANK ATMs are far and few in between.
